Oh, no worries then. After all, look how the war on drugs and the war on poverty turned out!
If you're referring to the War on Drugs that can get you up to 6 months for simple possession in some states, is currently responsible for a sizable portion of the prison population and serves as a vacuum for cash, then I'd say we definitely have something to worry about.

What, hundreds of thousands of people in jail, billions of dollars down the pisser, God knows how many lives ruined, entire neighborhoods rendered war zones, and no discernable improvement in the "problem" the government is ham handedly trying to address? I can't wait.

Let's see War on Drugs = Filled up prisions, smashed civil liberties and more drugs than ever, War on Terror= Smashed civil liberites, slight terror reduction, thousands of dead soliders and civilians, War on Porn=?. Do the math. Or meth in the case of war on drugs. This is gonna be a miserable failure. I'm so fucking moving to canada when i turn 18.

"B..b..but, Kerry iz worse cuz he wants to raise muh taxes! Ah'll stick with Bush, thankee much. Hyuk"

Today, during my two back-and-forth trips to Columbus, I saw far too many cars with "bring GOD back to AMERICA" and similar bullshit on bumperstickers. The millions of these particular tards will stand by Bush on this issue.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Have you ever reached that point where you are so exhaustively angry, in an ideological and theoretical sense, at a specific group? I am absolutely convinced that if the Religious Right gains more and more power it will spell the downfall of America and the destruction of everything it ever stood for.

They're going to use the nebulously defined "obscene materials" law (in which case "obscene" is defined not by any objective standard but by "community standards") to try and prosecute any distributor of pornography by using the most conservative religious community they can find and prosecuting the distributor on that basis, effectively enforcing that community's narrow "standards" upon the entire nation.

That's the plan. This idea has been brought up before with the CDA (Communications Decency Act) which was struck down by "activist judges" on the Supreme Court. Clearly, those judges need to be either replaced or rendered toothless in the name of the Lord.

I like the way they appeal to popular opinion on gay marriage, and completely reject it on pornography. Fucking asshats.

They don't even have to do that. Ashcroft was infamous during his tenure in Missouri for going after small-time porn establishments. He knew that he could never win a legal court battle with the big boys or even the little guys, so he'd basically just seize the little guy's property (after obtaining a warrant based on whatever accusation he could think up) and hold it for an extended period of time, forcing them to either close or reorder all their merchandise. Those that dared stick it through to get their merchandise back only got it seized again until they got the message. Either way, he could just use the FBI's seizure powers as a blunt instrument to run them out of business; he doesn't have to prosecute shit.

So you're willing to stand another 4 years of having Christianity rammed down your throat if it means that you're secure in the fact you didn't vote for John Kerry?

I know that lots of people don't like either at this point (especially disillusioned fiscal conservatives), but if you're a social liberal, please, for the sake of the fucking country, vote Kerry.

The duty of the people is always to vote the lesser of the evils. Everyone knows that politicians are scum, but the difference is that one of them is the lesser of the two, and that's how we Australians vote. I really don't understand when I hear people say; I am throwing a dumby vote! Why? What the hell is that going to accomplish?

And as to the US government vs the Porn industry, good luck. The government will need it. This is nothing more than a vain attempt of the Bush Administration to suck up to the Christian right in order to shore up their support. Anyone thinking they will actually be able to beat the porn industry is deluding themselves.

It's going to be like the government vs the tabaco companies, no matter what the government tries to throw at the porn industry, they have more than enough money to out spend them. And we are all forgetting the first law in politics; money talks and bullshit walks.

Agreed. John Kerry might make some bad decisions on fiscal policy, but even if he is deliberately negligent, the amount of harm he could do is minor. That's simply the way the system is set up.

Bush on the other hand, is pushing a Fundamentalist agenda on issues that he has a great deal more control over, and could do a great deal more damage.
