This new person. Imperium......do you guys really know him? Is he familiar or a regular (i know he hasn't many posts0

I have a weird feeling I know him personally....I was told today by a Paul Pareoli that hey was gonna send someone to this board to make trouble.

If this be the case, I just wanted to warn you.

Editor's note: Cornelius does not have a killing shot in any publically viewable thread. This is the thread where his identity was revealed. There's some confusion as to whether Cornelius was Strate_Egg, or letting Strate_Egg use his account. The difference is largely academic, as the latter is a bannable offense, and for completeness' sake this thread is on display here, but if Cornelius turns out to be just a sock puppet, this thread will be removed from Parting Shots.

If he is indeed here to "make trouble", I presume it will soon become obvious that he has no intention of making any serious contribution, and appropriate actions will be taken at that time. Until then, I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. A lot of people join this board; the troll he's supposed to be sending could be any one of the people who've signed up since the threat was made unless you have some other reason to suspect him.

The only weird feeling I had came from what Paul said to me today. He was getting people to infiltrate the board. Dumb shit that I would't put past him.

This board is not a very good target for that type of person. We've made it a pain in the ass to sign up, and we have several admins who can ban a troll and dispose of his posts. It would be too much work and exposure for too little reward for someone to sign up here solely to act like a typical dipshit kiddie troll.

Imperium², don't worry about it. If you're not a troll you'll be fine. Mike doesn't just throw people out on suspicion; they have to actually engage in trollish behavior. Heck, this board has one of the loosest definitions of "troll" that I've ever seen; behavior common and accepted here will get you summarily banned at most other boards. As long as you act within the rules of the community (laid out very well and thoroughly in the Announcements forum) then you have absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of banning. Now, post something stupid and the members will lynch you, but that's another matter entirely...

Whats with useing real names on this board, just to clear things up i did not invite imperium to this board i never have nor ever will invite a troll here. As for Cornelius aka (Strate Egg) I invited ONE person his name is russianrocket he is just an uninformed trekie not a hoard of trolls. some people prefer using their real names, others don't. in some cases they know each other irl. it's all a matter of personal preference.

That's why I had that suspicious look. Banning around here is usually a full IP ban unless I'm much mistaken. Of course he could have changed his IP, but we'll see. Until someone actually starts trolling I'm not going to point any fingers.

there've been a number of full bans in the past few months alone. at least i think they were full bans. semage, revprez stewart at SDI and Lord Jax just off the top.

For the most part, we don't do IP bans anymore unless we have to. Admin approved registration and the no-freemail rule deter common trolls. An IP ban is generally undesireable because it can take out innocent bystanders (or prevent them from registering in the first place). Though since Mike has already banned an entire state university to kill one troll, it's like he won't do an IP ban if he has to.
