What's a reasonable price for Freespace 2?

Post by Darksider »

I've given up trying to find the game via other measures (I don't know anyone who owns it and can burn me a copy, and, as I understand it, the source code only allows you to play a bastardized, half assed version of the game) and have decided to try and buy it online. What is a reasonable price for a used game of the year edition in "like new" condition?

You can find it on some abandonware sites (is discussing abandonware allowed?), such as theunderdogs, though I think the owners are now selling it in limited quantitites. Isn't it ridiculously expensive on E-Bay for a 6? year old game?

74.99 for the GOTY edition on Amazon.com

EDIT: Abandonware appears to be illegal, so discussing it would probably be prohibited

(Please don't lock this)

I don't know if is this what you want but you can order the original game from interplay since they decided to release a limited edition of about 2000 copies

I don't know exactly but it was somewhat recently, i'm almost certain it was (re)released about two moths ago.

It doesn't seem to be selling that quickly. I just hope there's some left for me to order tomorrow.

EDIT: It says they started releasing them on 1/29/04

Knowing my bad luck, i'll wake up tomorrow, ready to order it, and they'll be sold out, thus triggering a generic "NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" moment.

Actually that might be possible, in a FS forum i used to visit, a lot of people there were looking forward to order the game.

The FS2 license explicitly lets you copy it to give to others -- just so long as you don't sell those copies.

In that case, there's the abandonware version then, since it's legal to copy. Too bad I can't find an ISO anywhere, since the abandonware rip won't run with the source port for Linux.

So the Abandonware version won't run on windows?

No, he just said.

And Freespace 2 EXE and Editor is Open Source but the content however, is NOT. So abandonware is still illegal.

I just ordered my copy from interplaystore.com anyway, so a mod can close this if he/she feels like it.

The content is free for distribution, but is not public domain or open-source.
