STGOD 4 OOC Thread

I'm not saying his fleet came for me, i'm saying, after awhile, these missles would be damaging his FIXED defenses built into the surfase of eden.
Like how Aly said the bombardment was wearing down the orbital sheild.

defensive positions
defensive positions in space are viable, especially if you have long range support. They are not designed to take the place of fleets, they are there to supplement them. They are there to keep small raiding forces from raping planets while the big bad boys are away. They offer some degree of peace of mind.

that is all fine and dandy but your fleets are loosely comporable (at least by numbers) he just happens to have orbital defenses AND whatever the planet has to offer. If it comes down to a long range slugging match, which side do you think has the most stamina? Your missiles should be dying in droves as they have to run the gauntlet through Tycho's fleet, Tycho's Orbital Defenses, and whatever contribution the planet can add be it trans-orbital fire, planet based fighters or whatever. Tycho can't play, but let's make this as realistic as possible. Someone not involved in the gang-rape of the covenant should take over the Covenant and play it. I would suggest Pablo, since he is the moderator.lazerus wrote:I'm not saying his fleet came for me, i'm saying, after awhile, these missles would be damaging his FIXED defenses built into the surfase of eden.

uh.........me. Given that it's fleet vs fleet, we are out of the range of defences.

okay, let me get this straight. you are firing missiles against a comporable fleet (number wise) and your uber-missiles have to fly towards their targets. That means that your missiles have to go through the point defense of Tycho's fleet, through the defensive fire of his orbital defenses AND whatever the planet has to offer and YOUR side has the advantage in this scenario? and this is how?lazerus wrote:uh.........me. Read the post, we are firing armored missles from far away. If his fleet moves in, we switch to the normal missles.

I have just changed my OOB to represent a new armament. Now all of my ships are equipped with special missiles that cannot be shot down and pack enough punch to take out almost any fleet. I figure if one of you guys hires me (for, say, a couple bucks and a free soda) I can scrap Laz's worlds when he is not online and thus cannot respond to my posts. If I post quickly enough, I can make sure that not only is his entire fleet dead, but his planet has been razed and completely taken over, making me the dominant power in the galaxy (with a share going to whoever hires me) before he even has a chance to say "wait a sec."
And there's nothing he can do about it.
Cuz my missiles are just that badass.
PM ME!
(for those of you who cannot detect sarcasm) THIS IS A JOKE. But, I hope I have made some sort of point here. (Looks pointedly at Laz.)

A missile that is sufficiently hardened to resist point defense will have a number of disadvantages commensurate with it's increased mass. It will either be significantly slower and less maneuverable, and hence easier to intercept, or it will have larger engines and a sensor signature to match, again making it easier to intercept. Or it's warhead might be significantly smaller.lazerus wrote:Read the post, we are firing armored missles from far away. If his fleet moves in, we switch to the normal missles.

Wait a minute. Laz, you bribed Tycho into surrender for OOC reasons so you could seize the ringworld?
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

My desire to come into the STGOD as a villainous power just dried up if this sort of thing is happening.

Okay... not cool. Out-of-game bribery in exchange for in-game actions doesn't strike me as being at all acceptable. If anyone else feels that way, just say so here. If there's a consensus then we'll think of a way to deal with it.Alyrium Denryle wrote:Basically, Laz offered(or Tycho asked, I was not present for most of the convo) the SW d20 PDF file.. the good version... in exchange for throwing in the towel

At the least he isn't going to get the ringworld. Pending popular agreement I think a judicious employment of the mod-stick will be in order.Alyrium Denryle wrote:I dont appreciate such bribery either(this isnt the first time Laz has used less than good techniques either.. countless problems in D&D games)

Hey!
Armored missles arn't a bad idea, sure, your going to loose a lot of firepower so they are worth crap against other ships. But against FIXED DEFNESES that you can sit out of range of, they would work well enough.
--
As for bribery, that was just so you guys would shut up in the OOC thread, and because i'm not going to wait for days for tycho to respond each time.
--
And what's so bad about me having the ringworld? Now I have a planet of fanatic who hate me, in the very very long run it's a gain, but for now, it's a pain in the ass.

From a legal POV it's not wrong of me to offer the bribe, it's just wrong for tycho to accecpt it.Okay... not cool. From a point of view that is not a ton of horse shit, I was just sick of tycho always BUGGING me about sending him files. But I still shoudln't have done it........maybe your mod-wand could just inflict some calsulitis on my fleet to simulate a battle?

Actually, in general terms bribery of someone who isn't a public official often turns up being fraud or conspiracy, etc., and when the bribery is uncovered the deal isn't often allowed to go through. And we aren't in any court of law, here.lazerus wrote:From a legal POV it's not wrong of me to offer the bribe, it's just wrong for tycho to accecpt it.
First, no ringworld for you, and you certainly didn't capture his entire fleet intact. We'll assume that his fundamentalist wildmen blew themselves up. It's cheating for you to have done it, and even if there hadn't been a deal it wouldn't have been cool for all of this free stuff to suddenly go from the Covenant into the hands of the other players. From a point of view that is not a ton of horse shit, I was just sick of tycho always BUGGING me about sending him files. Anything further will be for the group to decide.
Tycho:
Even if you didn't feel like writing anything, it's better for your faction to just disappear without a trace and the game to continue as if nothing had happened. The sudden transfer of territory and resources into the other player's coffers is drastically unbalancing.
Plus, if you're going to go out in a blaze of glory you should at least be prepared to write the blaze of glory.
