If I were a soldier, I'd be praying that the C-in-C pulls his head out of his ass.

"Pray that the President and his advisers will seek God and his wisdom daily and not rely on their own understanding"

Doesn't that basically mean that they're saying the president is an idiot? After all, he shouldn't be relying on his own understanding.

"The pamphlet, produced by a group called In Touch Ministries, offers a daily prayer to be made for the US president, a born-again Christian who likes to invoke his God in speeches."

Nice touch by that link. 'his God'. Finally someone who clarifies that it is merely his belief.

I'd just like to point out that the linked article is over a year old. :)

I remember hearing about it, and the outrage, back then.

No, it means they should go with whatever gut feeling they get after praying instead of making a rational decision. After all, only godless fools use their own understanding. Why not just elect a prophet? That way we could skip the middleman and put God's very own sock puppet in power.

It's funny to outsiders and followers of different faiths, yes. But fundamentalists really, really do show a mixture of pity and contempt for people who rely on rational thought.

Sometimes I wonder how a philosophy so totally foreign and alien to the status-quo can somehow worm its way into every facet of civilization...

Okay, that should say, "basically say."
Perhaps the reliance on not thinking is really appealing to some people.

Why are so many people here automatically assuming this crap came down from Shrub himself? Sure, Bush is a rabid fundie, but the article gives no indication that he had any involvment with this leaflet...

BTW, here is the website of the organization that concocted that filth.

In Touch Ministries is run by a certain Rev. Charles Stanley, whose church is in Atlanta, Georgia.

My (fundie) father, mother and sister watch his broadcast religeously (pun intended) every Sunday at 8:00PM (the same time I am watching The Simpsons down here in the basement ).
