Car Recomindations

Post by Mr Bean »

Assuming that Mr Bean's current car's blue book value had finaly droped under 200$ even in mint condition and assuming Mr Bean had limited himself to 35,000$ and assuming he was intrested only in cars, not SUVs, not 8x8 Armor Vechicals of any kind not Trucks nor Motocyles, what would you tell Bean to buy and why?

I would tell Bean to go to his nearest newsagent, and look for a car magazine which is doing a road test on the type of car he'd like to have.

A little more infor could be helpful. What are you looking for in a car?
Do you want something sporty? Economical? Large? Small? FWD, RWD or AWD? How much room do you want in it? American, Asian or European?

Give me an idea and I'll come up with a good list for you of cars in that range.

Toyotas are tough. Older Toyota trucks really can't be busted. Gas mileage isn't terrible, and the ability to haul things is nice, but only if you don't carry many passengers.

Well, what do you want? What do you do?

With $35K US you could get a nice luxary car if you wanted or a truck or whatever.

Just to repeat I don't want a truck, I have no need of a truck or SUV of any kind, I don't need it to move shit, gotta Humvee for that I can use or a twenty passager van if I need to move people

Looking for a car, prefer four-door, midsized, gas miliage is important but not be all end all, sporty is fine with me, my first impusle was a Jaug(Always loved jags thanks to a Uncle who took me out for a spin when I was younger, and beive me 140 is fast when your eight)

But Jaugs of course are to expensive, for 30k I could get an X-Type
Image
but the engie on it while nice is less than two hundred horse power, styling is right but some of the features you would expect on a car that starts at 30K and goes up from there are missing, I'd love an S-Type

Image
but its still out of my sane price range on them

And a side note I nearly fell in love with VW R32 just because of the look of the seats

Tony likes Honda S2000s. Just barely not sportscars.

The Acura TL is a nice luxury car that's about ~33K, though that is at the high-end of your price range. 270 HP V6 and loaded to the gills with features.

Of course, you could always just get something like a Honda Accord which is a good car.

The car market is becoming fiercely competitive(The SUV fad seems to be peaking), which is good for you, because there are a shitload of excellent cars to choose from. Now, if you could answer a few simple questions, I can narrow things down to two or three recommendations for you.

1. Which would you prefer: sedan, coupe, or sports car?
2. Do you consider fuel economy or ball-blasting power more important?
3. Do you prefer import or domestic brands?
4. Do you prefer rear, front, or all-wheel drive?

Off the top of my head. Some of these are near the top of your price range you listed but well Ilike em.

Cadillac CTS
Pontiac GTO or Grand Prix GTP
Nissan Altima or Maxima
Acura TSX or TL
Mazda 6
Chrysler 300C
Volkswagon Passat and R32

From what you're saying you seem to have similar taste as me so here are some cars I like in that range. My favorites are the CTS because of the styling and GTO because of the motor.

VW GTI VR6 turbo, manual transmission, 2-door, with leather seats.

Because it's like driving a tiny rocket, looks snazzy, and can be practical too (with storage and stuff).

I'd get it in silver with black leather interior, but that's just me.

35K will buy a lot of car. You have to decide is you want something practical or go for luxury.

If you want to go practical take a look at the Nissan Altima. You can get a 4 door low end model for around 17K and the V-6 model for up 25K.
This car has a comfortable amount of room inside, decent styling, the reliability of an import. On the downside the interior leaves a lot to be desired.

If you want luxury look at the Acura TL or Audi A4. The Acura has the reliability but the A4 is a sweet looking car.

Other possibilities for both practical are the Mazda6.
Dont forget Lexus for 4 door sedans if you want something nice.

Some VWs have the same engines that Audis have. I know that my friend John's Audi A4 has the exact same engine as my friend Justin's VW Passat.

Just so y'know.

I just recently learned that Audi is the luxury brand of Volkwagen. I'm not sure I really trust VW's but they are fun to drive and the A4 really appeals to me. However I don't think Im the kind of person who should pay a lot for a car since I treat them like dirt.

I've driven both the Audi A4 and the VW VR6 turbo, and the VW is simply more fun. They both had pick-up, but the VW had more and clung to the curves better, in my opinion.

A brand nobody's mentioned yet is Hyundai. Their reputation's not great, but I've had zero problems with mine so far. More reliable than the damn Mustang, and slightly better than the Datsun or the two Nissans my parents had before the current Mustang and CRV combo. The cars are reliable, and they have good warranties. I have an Elantra, which is the second-smallest car they have, but I've heard good things from a friend with a Tiburon, and the XG350 might appeal to your sense of class. (and Hyundai has deals for active duty military personnel through June 30).

The new Cadillac CTS is really nice. You won't be able to afford the Corvette powered CTS-V model, but the midrange engine offers good performance, a Cadillac luxury interior, rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission option. This car is an absolute steal compared to its closest German and Japanese rivals (noteably the BMW 5-series and the Audi A6).

Get a 15000-20000 dollar car and save the rest.

I recommend Mazdas.

Firebirds / Trans Am's maybe? Two-door cars, but they got backseats, and they are sporty, me I prefer thirdgens, and for the kind of money you are willing to put out you can get several of those, or just one and get it really fixed up and modernized...

I payed 7k for my -91 GTA(luxury model of the thirdgens) with nearly 250HP's, you can find a TA for less, or even a GTA and with those money you can get 500+HP's out of easily and still have lots of money left over.
Though any 350ci thirdgen of 91/92 has 245HP's from factory.

Replace the air intake and exhaust(the parts will probably be under 1200$ total) and you increase mileage and increase power.

I get 15-17 miles per gallon in my car and it needs a new exhaust system and air intake still.

Bean, avoid Jaguars like the plauge. My cousin has an S-type and it is the biggest piece of expensive trash he has ever owned. Unless you like visiting the dealership regularly. For 35 K you can get a sweet Acura that will last you decades and go well over 100,000 miles with little moer than gas and oil changes. After some minor tune ups, they'll last you well over 200,000 miles without any problems. Also, for once i agree with the Kernel. The CTS is a sweet ride and Caddilac is actually making very dependable cars now.
