Belarus II
Secondary Industrial System, Jardanian Confederacy

Belarus II was a moderately well-off planet, as things went within the Jardanian police state. Her populace was concerned largely with the manufacturing and shipping out of raw materials- in particular, some alloys of great importance for the production of advanced electronics and superconductors.

The Hajr's first wave of spies, almost a decade ago, had singled out the planet as a fine target or a raid. It was important enough to rate defenses, but stripped of it's defensive fleets, would be easy prey for a concerted strike.

Belarus II's defenses consisted of ground and orbit based batteries- planetary shields were, in this chaotic day and age, a luxury few worlds could afford. Upon recieving the signal from their commanders in the far-off Edean system, the guns had been brought online. It was due to that forewarning that the system's sensor nets caught the Ouster fleet. Unfortunatly, ECM left the sensors unable to accurately detect the vectors of the oncoming warships- to the bulloxed sensor screens, the Ouster fleet was a red gobbet.

The vessels dropped out directly above the planet's northern pole. A fortified gun platform sat there, hovering above the world it protected. It's life was brief as three squadrons of Strike Cruisers dropped out of lightspeed, smashing it with their forewards batteries. A rain of torpedoes erupted from the attack craft, hugging the world's surface as they raced towards major population centers. The commanders of the orbiting point defense stations hesitated- they couldn't fire at the missiles without hitting the planet below.

Over a dozen major population centers, EMP blasts expanded, burning out complex electronics for miles. The Ouster intelligence apparat had mapped the best targets quite accurately- Within a minute, half the world's population was without power.

Mushroom clouds bloomed over military bases, mines, and refineries. Not all the projectiles were EMP rounds.

"Sir?"

"Yes???" the somewhat irritated Karsus replied...

"The Ousters just attacked a Jardanian industrial world"

"Good..."

"good sir?"

"Yes.. the Jardanians are an unstable military state that oppresses its populace. Hell, they even annex territory that belongs to other nations. They cannot be trusted and should be removed..."

"Should we also start attacking Jardanian planets?"

"Perhaps"

::::::Covenant Empire, Two weeks ago::::::

A control panel exploded on board admiral Conner's command ship the Tyrant's Bane

"Damage report"

"Fleet is encountering heavy resistance, covenant fleet units are fighting to the last, but we're winning. They lose five ships for every ship we lose"

"Is the Fusion cannon charged yet?"

"Yes sir"

"then target their command ship and fire"

A reddish orange beam lanced out from the dreadnaught and speared the covenant command vessel, triggering massive internal explosions that ripped apart the vessel. With the Covenant forces disorented, the KSN fleets moved in, fast destroyers and fighters leading the way and damaging the enemy ships, while cruisers, battleships and dreadnaughts finished them off with heavy guns. Suddenly, the Covenant stopped.

"Admiral, we're getting a message from the Covenant forces"

The Covenant's surrender was heard on the bridge, officers started cheering.

"Contact the troops on the ground, tell them it's over."

::::::Emperor's command bunker, Carulan, Present Day::::::

"And the situation has deteriorated, with the Ousters attacking the Jardanian Empire"

"I never trusted those damnd Jardanians anyway, please convey my apologies to the ouster governmen, I had assumed all coalition powers would agree to the terms." "Oh, and offer the assistance of our fleet in securing the system they want from the Covenant. It's the least we can do"

(OOC: I'd like to take possesion of a few minor Covenant Colonies for my efforts in the war. Is this ok with the other coalition players?)

One week ago, Verlion Station

The destroyer trawled through the EMP's area, looking for any sign of anything disabled by the pulse. They were so small that the destroyer almost collided with the disabled mines...

One day ago, Orodan

Industrial technicians very carefully removed the final plate from the mine and carefully disabled the explosive. Final analysis began at once on all removed parts...

Present day, Orodan

Master Chief Connor, the leader of the team of technicians assigned to analyzing the mines, walked into the facility commander's office and saluted, holding a datapad in his left hand. "Sir. I have the preliminary analysis on the mine's materials. The casings seem primary asteroid mined; there are unusually high concentrations of iridium in the alloy. Also, the explosive is hydrogen based. I've cross checked with Intelligence, and these in combination with other factors listed in the report point towards Jardanian manufacture." He placed the datapad on the desk and slid it across.

Commander Hermann's eyes narrowed. "Interesting, Chief. Very interesting indeed... I'll get this off to Command immediately. Good work, and continue the analysis. If there are any major changes in your conclusion, let me know." The chief saluted and marched out of the office. Hermann watched him go, then turned to plug the data into his computer terminal to send off to High Command.

Nashtar

The Joint Chiefs of Staff met quickly. After a few minutes of deliberation they recommended to the President that the other allies in the Covenant campaign be informed. Transmissions were fired off to the Arcane Empire, Krytosian Empire, and Psilons as soon as could be arranged.

Veithan Empire, Ashana System
Ashana III, Black Tower

There was little rest for those within the Black Tower, but no one complained about such things. It was in many ways all about mind over matter, the very motto of the tower itself. It was simple coincidence, that when the Hajr task force chose to strike Belarus II, Lilandra was already plugged into her gestalt and joined with the other seers of the tower. The psychic of mass of shimmering power floated invisibly in space; aware of the astral and other parallel plains of existence it painlessly scanned various futures of the Empire. There were thousands of strands, each strand leading to a glimmering pathway which represented a possible feature. The strands were manipulated deftly by the entity that Lilandra had become, possibilities considered and discarded much like a child would play with a toy.

It was when the first projectiles began to fall over their intended targets that the threads realigned themselves, possible features altered as if by the hands of a greater power. Lilandra blinked, instantly aware that something of great importance had occurred for the ripple effect to have affected so many possible futures. The psychic mass sought a strand, a golden path that would lead them back to the source of the disturbance. The strand was found and followed, space and time mingling into a singular whole as Lilandra sped towards her destination. When she arrived, she was unable to discern many specifics. She knew that she was in Jardanian space; the stations and asteroids themselves took a bit more work to ascertain but it was in time discovered. This sudden escalation of hostilities had to be reported, and Lilandra took steps to make sure that those that should know of this did.

The military prince and his advisors were meeting, the military situation throughout the world was heating up, and after deliberating the prince was finalizing the changes.

"Order all regiments to move up an alert level, order the allied worlds to raise their shields, remember folks we're a land power and our shields are better then them. If we're going to fight, we're fighting on the ground, and we'll make them pay with everything they have just to set foot on our ground. Admiral, inform the Priest that the Cole Protocal is going back into effect. Now get lost the lot of you, except you Fedayn."

As everyone else filled out the prince closed his eyes and massaged his temples.

"General, the ball is in two weeks, and the arms convention in a month. My fellow prince is becoming agitated, is everything set?"

"Yes sir, nothing unwanted will happen, we've even set up the Anti-magic fields, as you ordered. Security will be tight, and they will all leave in one piece."

"Good, keep me informed."

Two species? His superiors hadn't considered this event, but it was of little consequence, the aliens were to be treated as top order clients. The head of Megaron's public relations was over at the station making final preparations, he would have to be briefed again. He peered at the tactical readout of the Oenone, it was a big ship, bigger than his by almost a quarter of a kilometer. He viewed it with great admiration; like his ship, the Oenone was an impressive vessel, not unlike those of the modern Commonwealth Navy.

The hologram before him was of a tall, elegant man, similar to his last visitor but clearly not of the same species, he pondered for a moment before sending a response:
"I am pleased that you have received our transmissions. Megaron Industries would like to invite you to the nearby station for a more complete dialog; oh, and I hope you don't mind, but we have another visitor from the," he paused for a moment; the name was difficult to pronounce, "Arcanian Empire.”

He returned to his chair, should he join them on the station? No, no, his job was done for the moment; he sat down and hailed the nearby station, no doubt they had detected the second ship. No longer worried that the aliens might be unreceptive the feeling that his actions here were illegal returned. He let out a sigh then greeted the station manager.

“Another one?” he could hardly believe it, “and you’re sure they are not the same species?” The holographic image nodded and then disappeared.
Millze Koranga had been head of Megaron’s customer service department for thirty years now; he had learned a thing or two and considered himself a tactful diplomat and a shrewd negotiator. He had dealt with big clients before, but this, this would be a challenge. He usually had backgrounds on the people he dealt with, or at least had an idea as to what he was up against. He looked over the controls at his podium, the diagnostic reported no problems, and the guests would certainly be wowed by the showroom, assuming he had the tact to get them inside.

With a sigh he stepped down from the podium and made his way to one of the large panoramic windows in the conference room, the second ship had just pulled into orbit. He turned to one of the workers, who was making a final inspection of the conference table. “The chairs work?” he inquired. The chair was comfortable looking, but obviously built to seat one of the tall workers.
“Would you like to test it?” the worker pulled back from the chair and motioned Koranga to try the chair out. As he approached the chair’s dimensions shifted, by the time he had reached the seat it’s dimensions were perfect for a Baeloaren of his stature.

“Yes” he nodded to himself, “This is perfect.” the worker grinned and walked to one of the control rooms.

Four ships pulled away from the Nashtar spacedocks. The frigates Dawn Raider and Noonday pulled into escort positions around the carrier Sun Striker and civilian exploration vessel Nashtar Explorer. They left the planet's gravity well and made the first microjump to get out of the cluster. It would take them nearly twelve hours to get out this way. They could have used the Pinnacle spacelane and exited the cluster with only two jumps, but then they would have had to go around the cluster again, and there was far less military traffic this way anyway. Eleven hours, 27 minutes later they cleared the last nebula and plotted their final jump of the trip out. A minute later they entered hyperspace.

Fast Destroyer Oenone

"We appreciate your offer, and will be happy to meet you on the station. Althathtcha out."

<<Prepare for docking with the station,>> he ordered.

The Oenone gracefully settled itself besides the station and carefully positioned itself to one of the docking ports. A portion of the hull suddenly liquified and extended itself towards the port, and configured itself into a docking arm.

Captain Althathtcha walked towards the other end of the docking arm, accompanied by one of the Marines, an impressively built elite guard, large even for his people, and his Communcations officer, Lieutenant Eckhoff. Together they politely waited for their guests.
<<What do you think they want? The station doesn't really look awfully advanced. And they can't origin in this barren system...>> Eckhoff asked.
<<I'm curious myself, Lieutenant. Let's wait and find out.>>
<<Don't strike any definite deals,>> one of the Advisors back at Imperial Plaza told him.

::::::Emperor's command bunker, Carulan::::::::

"And it appears that the Jardanians were responsible for the attack on Verilion station in the Nashtar Republic."

"Are the third and fourth fleets ready for action yet?"

"All their losses have been replaced, but the third fleet's larger warships are needed to patrol the three-planet system we took from the Covenant"

"And the fourth fleet?"

"It's a light raider force, not enough to do anything but annoy the Jardanians"

"Perhaps if we join our fourth fleet with the Hajar units already engaging them?"

"It could do some good sir"

Minister of State Victor Godunov walked into the Jardanian Embassy building followed by three aides and two Marine honor guards. He formally requested an audience with the ambassador, but being a high minister this was only a formality; the audience was granted at once as he knew it would be. He skipped the normal diplomatic formalities and got right to the point.

"Greetings, Ambassador. I have a note for your government from my own," he said, handing over the standard ornate diplomatic envelope. "This is a matter of dire concern to the Republic of Nashtar, and we await your reply."
The Note wrote:To the Jardanian Confederacy, from the Republic of Nashtar:

We have recently acquired distressing evidence indicating the involvement of your national military in the minelaying attack on Verlion Station on the 11th of April of this year. The Republic formally requests an explanation of this discovery. We put you on notice that we do not take interference with merchant vessels in our space lightly. Speed in your reply is requested. We eagerly await your reply.

Across the fleet the call was carried by illusion and Sending "Naredeth Sevrilar Nequil"

Soldiers girded for battle, the number of amges in the scrying chambers were doubled, and telekinetics and astropath contingents on ships were doubled. Fleet strength was concentrated on home systems and the figher squadrons were prepared to defend the colonies. The Planetary Shield spells were placed on contingency and prayers to the gods were heard throughout the empire.

Thauglor brooded in silence, the gears of it's impressively large mind ticking away at the vast multitude of scientific and social problems that it was bombarded with day after day. Not that it cared overly much. It may have been sentient, but it still had a purpose, and that was to aid it's charges. Rignt now, Thauglor was working on a dithetic algorithm coded communication that one of it's drone cruiser's intercepter a half second ago. Within another half second, it had the comminique cracked open. Jardanian attacks, man. Can you fucking believe this? I tell ya, I'm getting tired of this shit. First the fucking Covvies, now this. We're probably gonna get deployed in a few days, so be ready to grab your gun and run By the way, you still owe me for the drink last night. Thauglor filed the message into the 'Recent Events' archive, along with a dozen other intercepted messages Finsohn, the AI of drone-cruiser 12-AL, had decoded. This war was troubling the 13, Thauglor knew. Thauglor had stepped up security around the fleet's current holding station, sending out addiontal scouts and ordering all ships to remain cloaked. The mining facility on the surface was conviently buried a few dozen miles under the crust, extracting valuable metals and ores in solitude. Every so often, a load of ore came up, then was promptly moved to one of the factory ships for processing. All of this was done by Thauglor's lessers, of course. The R'hllorans were too busy researching and maping this part of the galaxy to bother with such menial tasks, although the 13 requested that each drone ship was personally inspected by a R'hlloran every week. Another message popped in a second later, this one from the Jardanians. Thauglor decoded it, filed it as usual, and then went back to his endless task.

What a Trip...

Post by frigidmagi »

Capt. Proudmoore settled into his chair as the "day" watch begun on the Mark class destorier Outrider. The Outrider had been sent out on the long delayed exploration mission that had been a goal of the Protector's Navy since it's foundation. However something had always come up (rebellion, distasters, budget cuts).

It had been decided to send a destorier out on a 6 month mission, before something came up. Capt. Proudmoore had been the "lucky" man assigned to command the mission. For 3 months he had gone on a around about series of jump covering the perimeter of the U.P. before finially heading out into deep space. Well the Astrographers would call him a hero either way.

"Sir coming up on entry point into realspace" Karen Bates, his nav officer reported.

"Perpare for entry." Capt Proudmoore answered.

"Aye, Sir. Entry in 5 minutes." She answered.

5 minutes later the Outrider jumped into realspace. A shock awaited her crew.

"Sir, I'm reading active com... In English." Called out the Com Officer.

"Let's hear it." answered Capt. Proudmoore, his mouth dry and heart pumping. The com was in English and the voices were human, or close enough. Something about the Republic of Nastar?

"On Comm" Capt. Proudmoore ordered, detaching the mic built into his chair. The Com officer answered signaling the com was active for outside transmission.

"This is Capt. Proudmoore, of the Protector's ship Outrider, to the power in possession of this system, we request permission to enter."

Capt. Proudmoore blinked. He should have figured on this, but got carried away in the moment. After all he was to first citizen of the U.P to contact an outsider.

"We are from the United Protectrates, on an exploration and contact mission. We have no hostile intentions and wish only peaceful contact."
He replied.

[VNN] Veithan News Network

War between Arcane Empire led coalition and Covenant of God nears end

It is widely believed that the war against the Covenant of God by an Arcane Empire led coalition will soon be over with the coalition unsurprisingly claiming victory. Various sources have implied that the Covenant’s major worlds have been neutralized and that their mobile assets have either been destroyed or claimed by prizes by the coalition forces. The news did not surprise any analysts, who pointed out that with at least four star nations against them, the likelihood of Covenant victory had been slim. Currently, we are trying to negotiate access to the seized planets in order to ascertain if the rumors of relatively bloodless combat on the ground are true. There is some indication however, that a single Covenant world has been a source of tension between two members of the coalition. Details are sketchy at the moment, but it is believed that two separate star nations are currently involved in a dispute over ownership of the planet. We will bring you more information as we receive it.

Myheri Republic military shopping spree

Some analysts believe that the Empire and the neighboring Myheri Republic are currently involved in negotiations which will set the ground work for some form of alliance between the two star nations. Neither nation has acknowledged that any negotiations are taking place however. Nonetheless, the Myheri Republic over the last two days has contacted over half a dozen major Veithan arms manufacturers expanding from orbital defense to ground war systems. The costs of the Myheri Republic’s military shopping spree amounts to billions of Veithan credits, a move that suggests that the Myheri Republic is indeed concerned about the current state of affairs in the galactic stage. The biggest benefactor of the Myheri Republic’s defense needs was Zenith Technologies which raked in over 45% of all the purchases. The Myheri have not been the only local star nation interested in Veithan military goods, at least three other local nations have been actively purchasing military equipment over the last week. One analyst was quoted as saying “The local fiefdoms can see blood in the water, and they want to take every precaution they can to make themselves unappealing. The same way some fish swallow water to make themselves look bigger, these nations are purchasing weapons and modernizing their defense grids.”

President to make speech in three days

In a surprise announcement, the President of the Veithan Republic has scheduled an empire wide speech within three days time. The speech is believed to touch upon the state of the Empire and various other internal matters but it is also believed that will deal actively with the current galactic state of affairs. Furthermore, many believe that if there is a Myheri-Veithan treaty in the works, it will be announced that day.

[Asgard Imperial Palace, Trondhiem, Valhalla System]

The meeting was small, just three people, yet it would decide the fate of empires. The Asgard Empire had been plunged into chaos by the invasion and the subsequent politcal upheavals it spawned. For the first in it's history an Emperor had rejected a Prime Minister entirely; the result was a mad scramble in the Houses and paralysis of the government. Slowly though it was being worked through, until then emergency Imperial Powers carried the day. The three people now stood at the heart of it; the Emperor, his new Prime Minister Duchess Ravenwood, and the Naval Cheif of Staff, Lord-Admiral Karlson.

"Jeannette, how long will it be before we can settle the Houses down and hammer out a formal response to these Ousters?" asked the aging Emperor

"You know as well as I do that that'll depend entirely on the response you wish. The supports there to throw them out but more than that.... Andreas, you know as well as I do the isolationist elements are still enough to block any major war."

The Lord-Admiral scowled. His men were at the short end and the Isolationists had succeed in virtually neutering the Navy. They hadn't been so much since the aftermath of the Battle of Krytos.

"Unless I get more ships, that's about all I can do and you damn well know it!" the Lord-Admiral was livid.

"I know that Bjorn. That's why I'm ordering the main yards at Asahiem and Epsilon militarized." said the Emperor blandly.

"Andreas, that'll play hell with PIR. We supply half their merchant marine out of those yards. They'll..." sputtering the stunned Duchess

"Consider it done, Jeanette." cut in the monarch "We need them and that's that. Smooth any ruffled feathers but they stay." Next the Emperor turned to Karlson.

"Admiral, I want plans drawn up. I'm not about to concede things just yet. Keep me informed."

The political prince was eating dinner when his aide came in.

"You know, I've named a boil on my ass after you, you pain me everytime I sit down. What is it?"
The aide silentlly handed the prince the latest message from space. The prince read it, stood up, and stroad out of the room, before coming back in and saying.

"Tell them to come down as soon as they can, I'll meet him in the Ambassadorial Conference Room in the parliment building. Tell Fedayn about it too, he'll want to secure the room, and make sure they aren't carirying any suprises with them."

[Asgard Diplomatic Courier Dash, Sol System, Earth Orbit]

"Captain, please ready on of the shuttles. They've apparently agreed to a meeting and I don't wish to waste any time."

"As you wish."

* * *

A half hour later a small, unarmed shuttle touched down on the landing pad. The counter-grav units had barely shuttle down when the Ambassador and his staff departed the shutte. Looking around the diplomat quickly recognized a young army officer waiting for them. He eyed him up quickly and then addressed him.

"Captain, would you escort us to the meeting? Our business is rather pressing."
