Counter Clinton Library???

Post by Fire Fly »

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/ ... index.html
The move could help the group with fund-raising but also requires it to be more public about its supporters.

Counterlibe Corp. of Washington, D.C., received word this month from the IRS that it had received the tax-exempt status to pursue its goal of responding to what it sees as "propaganda" planned for the official $160 million presidential library, which is scheduled to open November 18 in Little Rock.

To keep its tax exemption, the Counter Clinton Library must fulfill its plans of building bricks-and-mortar museums in Little Rock and Washington displaying what it promises will be documented negatives from Bill Clinton's eight years in the White House.

Skip Rutherford, president of the nonprofit foundation building the presidential library, said the group has the right to do what it wants.

"I'm too busy working on the Clinton Library and being part of the bipartisan presidential library system to have any comment about that," he said.

Counter Clinton Library founder Dick Erickson envisions 16 rooms of multimedia-based exhibits in Little Rock in time for the opening of the presidential library. Hard copies of documents will be kept primarily at the Washington museum, he said.

Erickson is visiting Little Rock this week from Houston to woo secret support and secure a museum location in the Little Rock area. He said Wednesday that both efforts require secrecy to avoid subterfuge from Clinton's Arkansas friends.

But the tax-exempt status means that Erickson and co-founder John LeBoutillier, former Republican congressman from New York, will not be able to keep names of contributors or land acquisitions secret for long. Counterlibe Corp. will have to file that and other information with the IRS next year.

Erickson said his organization also needs overt financial and public relations support from prominent Republicans. Erickson already counts on kind words from conservative media personalities like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh and help with documents from insiders including fired Clinton adviser Dick Morris.
May its just me, but I don't understand what exactly it is about Clinton why Republicans hate him so much. Maybe the conservative members of this board can tell me why. Seriouslly...Republicans hate the Clintons so much with the fires of a 1000 suns. I don't get why.

Clinton was a successful Democratic president who actually got things accomplished in the face of extreme conservative opposition, by seeking compromise and consensus over dogmatic party line bullcrap and looking for innovative ways to make American foreign policy more cost-effective (the Clinton Administration, BTW, started and brought into use the network-centric warfare approach that bore so much fruit in Afghanistan and Iraq; and numerous new pieces of hardware heavily used by the military, like the RQ-1 Predator drone and the Joint Direct Attack Munition). He also, unlike his Republican successor, succeeded in pursuing American foreign policy goals around the world without drawing ire and outright hatred from America's global neighbors, especially those who are supposed to be our friends.

And he dodged a blatantly political impeachment. The Clinton impeachment, like the Johnson impeachment a hundred and fifty years ago, was nothing more and nothing less than a blatant attempt by a hostile Congress to injure the executive office.

Let's not forget the number of completely bullshit investigations the Republican-dominated Congress began and conducted into Mr. Clinton. Hell, if he turned around to the left instead of to the right, chances were pretty good that some Republican congressman looking to get his name in the paper would initiate an investigation into the "dark goings-on" of Turnaroundgate.

The "Counter Clinton Library" is going to be a complete and utter sham.

Funny, it seems that there's no "Counter-Nixon Library." Nor is there a "Counter-Hitler Library", a "Counter-Pol Pot Library", a "Counter Mao Library", a "Counter Stalin Library" or anything else of that nature. Yet the right wing feels SO threatened by Clinton that they're willing to fund an extensive library dedicated to attacking him and distorting the record of his presidency.

Truth stands alone - only a lie needs constant support.

This is insane. They are smearing the name of Bill Clinton for no damn reason other than sheer penis envy, and they get tax-except status! Motherfuckers!

That's it, i'm using this as cause to build an anti-Bush lib...oh wait, he'll have a Presidential Library soon enough, so why should i go out of my way to build one for him 8)

Its dumb. I'm not a big Clinton guy but even I'll say that its dumb. Appears to be legal, but its dumb. I doubt that it'll last long. Even non-profit needs to make cash and I doubt it will make enough to stay in bussiness long.

It'll probably stay open for a long while even if only because there are a lot of right-wing media moguls with a vested interest in having it exist.

Meh, I doubt it. It may be a pet project for a couple rabid righties, but I gotta believe that if some return either in $ or media attention doens't happen, it'll be dropped quickly.

I'm sure it'll be a 'big thing' for a week or two or even a couple of months but what lasting 'thing' does it do? Nothing much like the Clinton legacy its protesting.

They are STILL hunting down his penis?
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I do think this counter Clinton library is bullshit though. As we get more
perspective on Clinton with time, I think history will not look kindly on
him; he was a Carter-clone who had the good luck to be president in
boom times.

Well, that is big BS what they plan. Can't they use the money for more..... useful things?!

Well, the Republicans during Clintons presidency, the ones who I heared of, were a joke. Alon the 1996 candidate Bob Dole was a laughing number.
I'm no American, but I got a real distaste for the Republicans....

WRONG. The A-6E wing upgrades (and the small number of new-build A-6Fs) went into AMARC. The A-6s that were reefed were older, un-upgraded aircraft.

A good peice overall, Iceburg, but just one nitpick about the above excerpt: Clinton cannot really be credited for any of those systems or weapons. They came into service because the military wanted them in service, not because Clinton wanted them. Although Clinton went along with these programs and did nothing to hinder them, he didn't push for them at all...

Desert Storm highlighted a shortfall in air-to-surface weapon capability. Adverse weather conditions limited employment of precision guided munitions. Unguided weapon accuracy was also degraded when delivered from medium and high altitudes. Research and development of an"adverse weather precision guided munition" began in 1992.

So besides cutting stuff from the military, and getting us involved in Kosovo, what other bad stuff did Clinton do?

Although, I think it's ironic that a lot of Republicans (and I'm talking about in general, not just on the forums) who attack Clinton for Kosovo automatically talk about Clinton's fuckups when Bush is brought up, since Iraq is so very much more FUBAR than Kosovo.
