Excellent screenshots. The models look very much lifelike.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Yep. You'll probably need an NV40 or R420 with a P4C/3GHz to run it at reasonably high levels.

Seen the first but the next two are new for me.

Pretty nice, and I like the indoor look more so.

Eyes on the arms? I see ID Software's creativity team has been working as hard as always.

Those shots posted here look identical to the leaked alpha version, in which there was no alpha-blended shadow. It also looks like someone cranked the gamma, probably because they were scared of the dark.

Not sure about those shots that are linked here, but I think I saw at least some of them on gamespot some time ago.

edit: yeah, all of those shots aren't brand new, dating from a month ago to further back.

If this thing IS running on a high-end machine, my current computer will melt down into a puddle of plastic and silicone. The second SS shows it is running at a whopping 17FPS. Whoohooo we got a computer killer here!

Imagine trying to run it at 1600x1200 with 8x AA and 16x AF

Could the new Geforce or ATI do it?

I remember the game running last year's E3 on a Nvidia chip (and the year before with a ATI chip), whats better?

Wonder how the NV40 will do with it.

nice character modelling. i hope they ´re qualified enough to give them decent motion capturing.
but the surroundings are just fucking boring.

All I can say is that the texturers could take a few hints from the Valve team. The surroundings look kind of cartoonish... although I suppose that isn't too big of a deal, it's just that even Quake II seemed to be more "real" than Quake III in terms of environment...

I'm guessing that most of the criticisms of the shots come from the actual artistry and not the engine itself. The models look like clay. Granted, very real looking clay, but clay none the less.

That's what I mean. The Valve texturing team went around and took pictures, then based their Half-Life textures off of those pictures. They're doing the same with HL2, and the result is pretty realistic looking.

By the looks of it, the Doom III texturing team is just drawing. Which results in a clay-like, cartoonish look (rather than a realistic look).

I dunno. Maybe that's what they're aiming for, what with all the soccer moms criticizing computer games. If they get sued, they could argue that they made it seem cartoonish so it wouldn't be confused with reality...

Now, as for the D3 engine, it looks pretty impressive. Although I'm kind of betting that the HL2 Source engine is going to be a lot more developer-friendly, but who knows. I'm still going to be interested in trying my hand at modding them...

The half Life 2 team went out and took pictures, yes, but where could the D3 team find pictures of deamons?

So that means with my POS, I get to play it at ~.001 FPS at 320x200x256color then...

I swear to the Gods, when I get a new comp, I'm taking the HDDs and CD drives out, then I'm gonna beat the shit out of what's left with my baseball bat! :finger:

Hmm, tempered-steel Katana Vs Soft steel, fiberglass, and miscellaneous-other-stuff computer. There's a nice thought experiment...

Think about how you want your demons to look, then go and take pictures of those things. The skin of freaky looking creatures, for instance.

On the other hand, weren't the bitmaps for the first two games based off of clay figures? They may just be keeping in tradition, or trying to keep a look-and-feel connection to the first games.

Maybe that, maybe because they want something unique, maybe to make the game feel more 'unreal', but who knows.

Hey, don't knock ID Software's classic colour scheme of brown, light brown, dark brown, fucking dark brown, blood-coverd brown, blood-covered light brown, blood-covered dark brown, blood-covered fucking dark brown, etc!

After recently finishing Far Cry, Doom3 will have to be pretty special.
