Yahoo messenger trouble

Post by Comosicus »

I've just reinstall Windows tonight (after formatting C:\), put SP1 and downloaded Yahoo messenger. But after install, when I log in it just crashes. The same happens for my wife's account.

Before reinstalling, when I used my account it worked just fine. But any other account caused the same crashing. I thought things were going to come to normal after a clean install.

Anyone has a clue?

Sincerely, I'm tired of the troubles my computer caused lately, as you can see very well on the threads from this forum.

Situation update:

I've reinstalled last night Windows XP with SP1 and installed Yahoo messenger BEFORE puting any updates from Microsoft and it worked normally. I suspect there was something to do with the latest updates. Any way I've disabled automatic updates and I'll rely on antivirus & precautions to prevent atacks. Also I'm seriously considering moving to Linux as soon as I get a better computer.

Have you tried using Miranda IM instead as an alternative/troubleshooter? By default it has support for YIM, AIM, ICQ, and MSN. You can get support for other protocols by downloading the appropriate plugin if you so desire. Its quite small, doesn't load in your startup automatically, and its open source.

Uses less memory, open source, supports damn near every IM protocol out there, and its Free. Definitely better.

I use Miranda, infact I showed Vertigo it.:)

Miranda is alittle loopy when it comes to file transfers though; infact, AIM lacks file transfering abbility altogether.

There are features of Yahoo Messenger that I got used to. WHen it started crashing for the first time I tried Trilian, but I didn't really like it.

As I said before I'm pretty sure the cause were the updates from Microsoft. And Rightnow I'm willing to trade them happilly for using my programs.
