Man, I guess I have to see it. Personally, I'm a fairly big Godzilla fan, and the Millenium series has been all right so far. 2000 was okay, Megarius wasn't my favorite (attacking Godzilla with a rocket launcher?!), and GMK kicked ass. I still prefer the Heisei series, though.
Speaking of Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II isn't on DVD, is it? For some reason when they released the second part of the Heisei series they made a double feature out of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs. Mothra and another with Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Destroyah, but left out Mechagodzilla.

I'm with you. I tend to think of the "Millennium" as referring to the G2K Godzilla as he appeared in Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. That would be the snaggletoothed, green with big spikey redish fins Godzilla.Andrew J. wrote: Oh, when Spanky said "Millennium" I thought he just meant the two movies with Milennium Goji. Sorry.

I think there is a Japanese name for the series of G films that have come after Godzilla vs. Destroyah but I can't remember it off hand.

I'm not entirely sure why Tri Star skipped Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II when they released the Heisei series on DVD. I keep hoping they'll get around to putting it out, hopefully in a version that is as good as the post G2k DVD releases.
I'm also waiting for Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla vs. Biollante to be released on DVD but with those I think the American rights are tied up. G '85 was released in theaters and on video by New World Pictures and that company has since gone bankrupt. That probably means that any US DVD release is going to have to wait until either the rights revert back to Toho or someone actively goes after them.
Godzilla vs. Biollante was released by HBO video I think. I'm not sure why they've left it off of DVD. Maybe they didn't sell enough tapes for them to think it's worthwhile to put it on DVD.

Yeah, I believe there is, but I use "Millennium" because I can't remember what it is.Tsyroc wrote:I think there is a Japanese name for the series of G films that have come after Godzilla vs. Destroyah but I can't remember it off hand.

There used to be an excellent Godzilla site, but I don't think it's up anymore.
There are a couple that I know of, though they're pretty amaturely done (too much personal opinion in information articles, and writing quality more imature than they should know better to do).

Just a quick question. What's the origin of the new Godzilla?

They don't really say. In Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla they just refer to him as another Godzilla. There are even flashbacks to the original Godzilla who looks like he always did while the new Godzilla looks more like the Millenium Godzilla except he's back to being charcoal colored.Darth Yoshi wrote:Just a quick question. Somewhat lame for a trailer, but quite good for a teaser, I thought.Tsyroc wrote:Official Site with rather lame trailer for "Final Wars"

I've read that each of the films of the Millennium series are self contained and not part of an arc like the Showa and Heisei series were.Tsyroc wrote:They don't really say. That it is. Plus I liked that it loaded quickly even on dial-up.
Initially I was just a little disappointed because I wanted to see more.

I think it's been that way so far, although it could be argued that Godzilla in Godzilla 2000 is the revived and mutated Junior from Godzilla vs Destroyah. He was greenish and a little bit shorter than the G2k Godzilla.Spanky The Dolphin wrote: I've read that each of the films of the Millennium series are self contained and not part of an arc like the Showa and Heisei series were.
All the other ones have been self contained.
G vs. Megaguirus has Godzilla appearing in 1954, sometime in the 1960s and then "present day" IIRC.
GMK: Pretty much goes from Godzilla (1954) to the present day. There is mention of a supposed Godzilla attack on the Eastern US which is definately a reference to the American Godzilla movie.
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla: Incorporates Godzilla (1954), Mothra & War of the Gargantuas and then the present day movie.
I think the next two movies follow on the Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla timeline. At least Tokyo S.O.S. seems like it should since it has Mothra and the same Mechagodzilla from the previous movie.
G-Fan has had some nice articles that try to come up with plausible timelines in the Godzilla universe and this was before the Millenium series (now Spanky's got me doing it
![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I liked the timeline that had DAM as the last of the Showa series even though it was made before several of the movies. The reason it's last is that King Ghidorah dies in DAM which means he couldn't be in Godzilla vs. Gigan which takes place during the 70s.

I used to go to this site quite a bit when it was associated with the original Cinescape boards and even later when it was incorporated into Fandom.com.
It's still a good place to go for G News.

By the way, when you watched the G x MechaG did you watch all the way through the credits? There's a little coda scene near the end of the credits. I just found out about it yesterday.

Yeah, I found it. There's one in G v Megaguiras as well.Tsyroc wrote:By the way, when you watched the G x MechaG did you watch all the way through the credits? There's a little coda scene near the end of the credits. I just found out about it yesterday.
There's also a comment made by the reporter girl to the tune of "why does Godzilla keep helping us?" which would make no sense if it were a self-contained film, but fits better if it is indeed Godzilla Junior stomping around. It might alos help to better explain the power plant attacks: not just stealing energy, but maybe getting in a little payback for the nuclear blast that set Heisei Godzilla's death in motion. That's what I like thinking anyway.I think it's been that way so far, although it could be argued that Godzilla in Godzilla 2000 is the revived and mutated Junior from Godzilla vs Destroyah. Or hell, maybe it's good old Showa back from his long swim and a big workout routine and ready to kick more ass.

I know it's a joke, but it would be impossible for Millenium Era Godzilla to be Showa Godzilla, since he was killed by the Oxygen Destroyer.

WTF? Oh, no no no, my dear Spanky. That was the TRUE Godzilla, the very first. The Godzilla I'm referring to showed up in 'Godzilla Raids Again' and stuck around until 'Terror of Mechagodzila' where he simply swam off and was never seen again.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I know it's a joke, but it would be impossible for Millenium Era Godzilla to be Showa Godzilla, since he was killed by the Oxygen Destroyer.

In the Heisei series they seem to go with the idea that there's only ever been one Godzilla and that some how he recovered from the Oxygen Destroyer, at least that was the impression I got between G '85 and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.
By the way, shouldn't the last time we see the Showa Godzilla actually be DAM since that film takes place in 1999?

Eh. There are times when I block DAM from memory. And I refuse to accept Ghidorh being dead. He was unconsious, that's all.By the way, shouldn't the last time we see the Showa Godzilla actually be DAM since that film takes place in 1999?Not to mention King Ghidorah was finally killed in that movie so that should also place it before Godzilla vs Gigan

Well, there better be a lot of deaths in Final Wars, particularly with Godzilla's at the very end, in my opinion.
Though it would be very difficult to top his death in Godzilla vs Destoroyah...
