Question on Calvin and Hobbes

Post by 2000AD »

I've started reading Calvin and Hobbes and i am a little curious about the Tiger (who i assume is Hobbes).
In some comics it is replaced by what looks like a stuffed toy. is he:

1) A tiger that can imatate a stuffed toy.
2) A stuffed toy that Calvin imagines to be real?
3) Something else.

Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

I'm pretty sure it's a stuffed toy, Calvin has quite the imagination.

Number two would be correct. If you havent noticed already, Calvin has a pretty overactive imagination :)

Calvin is also an expert creator of snow-men.

Calvin has so overactive an imagination that he creates a philosophic tiger as his best friend.
I miss it so...

Bill Watterson was intentionally vague as to Hobbes' status.

Phongn beat me to it.

IIRC, he said "It doesn't matter if Hobbes is imaginary, magical, or something else entirely. He just is."
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

To add to the above, one of the reasons why he didn't want an animated cartoon was that by it's nature, it would have forced one of those scenarios on Hobbes, removing that vagueness.

And you mustn't forget about its sequel Commander Coriander Salamander and 'er Singlehander Bellyander. :D

I don't know all the G.R.O.S.S. verses off the top of my head. All I can remember that might be related (or might just be a treehouse permission verse) was

Tigers are great,
The epitome
Of quiet grace
And dignity.

I think that was supposed to be the seveth verse.
