It's dirty, greasy, grimy and still filled with many of the same concepts of today, packaged in a better way.

I thought it was a great movie. I own the video and always think about upgrading to the dvd now and then. What I liked most were the little things, the details they put in like the cigarettes that were two thirds filter. But as great a performance as the main characters gave, I have to say, the guy who played the president was the worst actor I've ever seen.

Anyone else notice that the priest called Corban Dallas "Mr. Willis" and Bruce corrected him by saying "Dallas"?

She's a female, she's got a pretty face, and she's got an athletic body. Granted, she doesn't have a huge rack, but so what? Are you really that picky about women?Peregrin Toker wrote:I still don't get the Milla-worship going on.
PS. I bought the movie on DVD and have watched it many times. Excellent film.

Screw up, that they either didn't catch before release or thought it was funny and insignificant. Either way, its a nice easter egg.Peregrin Toker wrote:Was that in the script, or ad-libbed?Vertigo1 wrote:Anyone else notice that the priest called Corban Dallas "Mr. Willis" and Bruce corrected him by saying "Dallas"?
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

Not only that. Most futuristic SF movies tend to have a lot of black, white, grey, and generally muted colors. The Fifth Element was a concious attempt to add more to the palet and was quite succesful.Ghost Rider wrote:Though one thing I really love about Fifth Element is that the future isn't clean.

If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! I have to disagree in this one case (as a general rule, you're right). The fight scene looked too fake, even for this movie. It almost seemed like someone decided to take a bad anime fight scene and make it live action. Maybe I'd feel different if it weren't for the "slap-'em-silly" move near the end. That just got to me.Gandalf wrote:Nothing sexier than a woman kicking ass.GoldenFalcon wrote:Who else liked that scene where MJ as Leeloo kicked around those aliens like rag dolls?

IIRC he said "Mr Wallace" not "Willis" and was then corrected to "Dallas". Maybe they anticipated that we would think that that's what they wanted us to think, but if they knew that we would think they had anticipated us thinking that that's what they wanted us to think, then they would have thought that we thought that they thought... *slips into a coma
