depending on the restaurant, their pay is usually not that great. sometimes even less than minimum wage and the majority of the money they earn is dependent on tips.

Sometimes i'll leave a tip at a restaurant when i can afford to eat at one, but most of the time i won't bother leaving tips for the delivery guy.

You might want to double check your area and see if the businesses assume tips in the worker's salaries. (Seeing as your location is England I don't think that is the case).

In some places in the US (Las Vegas and other Tourist-heavy locations do this I think but I may be way off base, can someone correct me if I'm wrong?), businesses can (and do) pay less than minimum wage to their Service industry workers, the assumption being that these workers will make up the difference in "Tips" (which sort've defeats the purpose of Tips IMO but... *sigh*)

As for me, I always round up to the nearest 5$ for my deliveries, and if that means less than a 2$ tip or so, than I'll toss in a toonie or so. Depends a lot on how strapped I am for cash at the time. I think I've made an impression with the workers too; the local "Pizza Pizza" got my last pizza to me in 15minutes or so and it was piping hot. (And this was on a Saturday night around 5-6pm)

I tip the pizza guy between 7 to 12 NIS.

When I eat at the restaurant I frequent alot, the waitress knows me, it comes faster, and I tip around 20NIS.

I do occasionally. I used to work in a Pizza joint myself while i was at nightschool and delivery drivers don't make as much as you'd think, over here in Belfast it's as little as 1 pound - 1.50 for each delivery.

If what I order costs more than fifteen dollars, I give him a twenty and tell him to keep it. If it's less, I only ask for about half to three-quarters of the difference back.
Don't hate; appreciate!

I don't tip delivery guys. If I'm feeling generous, I round up to the next "round" sum.
And in general, tipping isn't so rigid here in Germany as like in the US.
Here, you mostly round up, or give 2, 3 Euros.
Giving a waitress 15% of the sum is way over the top, even the waitress will blink and ask you if you're sure.

Yes, it's usually whatever change is left from the big bills the pizza delivery person is given.

Not when I'm in the UK, in the US, it always seems to be expected, so I do occassionally, but it's like with restaurants, I only leave a tip if the service has been good and resent the fact that most of the restaurants I've been in here (and that includes some swanky ones), give a recommended tip size (10-15% or whatever), and most of the time, they've done nothing to deserve that tip. Tips are something to reward unexpected pleasantries or whatever, and I'll eat any waiter who challenges me on the issue.

Except at the restaurants where they pay their waitstaff below minimum wage because they're counting on tips to make up the difference and then some.

Emphasis mine, by the way.

Yes, fair point, it's not something that really occurred to me, maybe I have too much faith in the restaurant industry, I'm used to the concept of minimum wage being minimum wage - even when I was washing dishes and slaving my ass off in a pub restaurant, I was still being paid minimum wage regardless of tips (which were few and far between). I think you can be reported at home, as an employer who doesnt pay minimum wage, and there are funny rules about tips as well. Don't know if they apply over in the US, but there's an odd rule that if you leave the tip on the table, it belongs to the manager who can do with it what they see fit.

You're supposed to tip them??

Geez, isn't it enough they get to fuck every bored, hot housewife they deliver to? Don't act like I'm crazy either. I've seen plenty of porn and I know what kind of pussy pizza guys get on a regular basis.

Buncha man-sluts, the lot of them.

Damn, just ordering the damn pizza would probably mean I won't have money for gas for the whole week, I'm not going to give the pizza guy free money also!

I know an US guy who tips like he would at home. And when he gave around 15-ish %, the waitress really asked if he didn't miscalculate, and if he was serious...

Usually I just give them a $20 and tell them to keep the change, which works out anywhere between $2.00 and $8.00. Since we always order from the same place, it works out over the long run.

On tipping in general, I always tip well unless the waitress went out of her way to piss me off or the food was terrible. It's a little consideration for someone who's doing a shit job better than I could.

i usually slip the pizza guy a couple of bucks.

i tip pretty well for good service too. One thing i've noticed in my travels, is that tipping customs in many other countries varies quite a bit. I once gave a waitress a 5 euro tip after a good lunch in French St. Martin, and she was so friggin thrilled (that i tipped and that there are americans that actually bother to excange currency) that she came back with a bottle of rum and two shot glasses. Tipping can get you far sometimes.
