E-mail, e-mail or email? How do you spell it?

'Nuff said. I used to spell it "E-mail," but after some thought, why would you capitalize the "e"? You wouldn't capitalize the word "electronic" if you said "electronic mail" would you? I've also read that, if you're writing it in print, the accepted spelling is "e-mail," but for web publishing, it's "email"? Anyone here know what the official grammatical stance on this is?

I use email, ir I'll just call it 'mail'. Shortest, simplest form.

Depends, I guess. If I am typing or writing something formal, I usually spell it E-mail. If I'm just typing here or informal notes of some sort or Emailing a friend I do the Email thingy.

I usually use e-mail unless it for a proper grammatical use, given it's name is electronic mail and not a proper noun as to it.

The online dictionary used by google defines all 3, but email is the actual entry. What about computer magazines? PC World? If anybody has got it down, it'd should be them.

email would be stupid looking in German, as this means "enamel" in German

I use "e-mail." The Computer Networks textbook for one of my classes calls it "e-mail," so I guess I won't be making any changes anytime soon.

I believe e-mail and email are both accepted spellings. Both are commonly used though I tend to favor the former since it is more in line with original abbreviation.

According to federal government of Canada editing rules, there's a hyphen and no capitalization. Now, that doesn't necessarily MEAN anything, but...

Grammatically, I think it's e-mail, since it's a shortened form but the words go together. However, if I'm typing the word 'e-mail' laziness overcomes me. Do you know how much effort it's taking me to write the word now?

I use "e-mail" because there are things like "e-commerce" though I may use "email" to be informal instead. The "e" shouldn't need a capital as it is just for electronic as we all know, but the "i" in Internet can be capitalised as the word is a proper noun much like the name of a company or person.

Generally I spell it as email, though I do use e-mail and occasionally I write E-mail. But I have a tendency to capitalize words that shouldn't be.
