The mining complex was disbanded, it's architecture left to the planet's ferocious dust storms. The fleet moved out of it's holding postion, still cloaked, and began plotting their course towards LVT-2445, a small Nashtaran colony world that would suit them. On the mothership, the 13 met briefly, to discuss terms and possible courses of action. They would arrive peacefully and humbly, asking permission to establish a small research and mining facility on LVT-2445's surface. If their request was refused, they would vanish back into space. However, if they were met with violence, the 13 had assured the rest of the R'hllorans that they would be well preprared in case of attack. Disuptor cannon feed conduits were activated for the first time in their entire operating periods, and missiles were taken out of their holdings and loaded. The combat AI needed no training or warming up; they were as sharp as they day they were programmed. Even though all these precautions were being taken, they would only be used to cover a retreat, not to attack. If negotiations were begun, the 13 were willing to give the Nashtaran Republic knowledge and perhaps technology, although they had unamiously agreed not to give away their weapons technology. When the 13 gave the order, the fleet leapt into FTL towards LVT-2445.

The Captain saluted, nodded.
"This way please sir."

Jogging a few berths down, he turned and waited with the diplomats staring anxiously. Suddenly a boarding ramp seemed to lower out of thin air, and the interior of a transport could be seen with soldiers inside. After everyone had entered the shuttle a middle aged man stepped forward from the soldiers.

"I am General Fedayn, I'm in charge of security on Earth for the next few weeks. We're on our way to the Parliment building right now, this the only way to take you directly there. If you'd please just stand still for a second we're just going to scan to make sure you're not bringing anything unwelcome here."

Ten minutes later the ambassadors were lead into a room within the Parliment Building, inside was a long rectangular table paralell to the door (which had two armed guards at either end of it) and three people standing opposite the door. The middle person stood up, seemed to bow and offer his hand, and started to speak.

"I am the political Prince of Monacora, to my right is my fellow Prince who commands the military, and to my left is the Prime Minister, Francis Traebon. It is a pleasure to meet you, and I am sorry for any delay I may have caused you."
"No need to apologize. These things happen." the ambassador smiled "We are simply glad that we could meet so soon. I would like to express my thanks for such a prompt meeting."

One of the ambassador's aide opened his breifcase, removing a large stack of papers.

"Unfortunately I have to be rather breif and come to the point. What we wish to propose might seem a little unorthodox but we believe you'll be interested."

The Ambassador took the bound sheets and pushed them across the table to the Monarocan leaders.

"What we have there is proposal endorse by the Emperor and the Prime Minister for the hiring of sufficient Monarocan ground troops to aid us in the retaking of our Ouster seized colonies. We are aware that your nation suffers in the area of power projection due to the lack of an adequate navy. In return for your aid the Asgard Empire will build and provide the Monarocan military with an up to date, modern navy suitable to projection of the galatic scale."

The ambassador paused. The Monarocans remained poker faced at the proposal.

"The details of the proposal is before you. We understand that is not an insignificant thing we're asking and so we'll allow more than sufficient time to consider. However, we feel that this represents an excellent oppurtunity to both of us."

{OOC: sorry about the delay. Busy weekend}

[Asahiem System, Orbital Shipyards]

In the five days since the militarization the yards had swarmed with Naval engineers. They had surveyed, documented, and filed in triplicate ever last detail of the massive yards, the commerical vessels being built, and the massive industrial complexes supporting them. Now the work was coming to an end and the next phase was being begun.

Through out the yards construction umbilicles were being cast off. The imposing masses of half finished freighters and liners slid into the void. They were being cleared in favor of military construction. Tugs moved into position to tow them out of the way of yard traffic. They would be completed in old-fashioned free floating spaceframes, slower and less efficient than full fledged yards.

As the skeletal ships were cleared the yard dogs immediately began laying down additional warships. Similar work was being carried out in the Epsilon System yards. In matter of months these yards would be adding more units to the Navy in addtion to those already begun in the Valhalla and Kokand yards.

<< The Hajr seeks to know what stake your people have in our actions. Jormungandr is clearly not a world under the jurisdiction of your Empire, as it maintains it's own private navy and called itself an independent entity. What we do in neutral space is no business of yours. We ask why you did not contest our claims at the talk-meet a standardmonth ago. >>

Turns within turns

Veithan Empire, Veitha System
Veitha III, Government Headquarters

The mood in the situation room located deep beneath the government headquarters was that of satisfaction, the series of events that had gripped known space was at the moment favorable to the Empire and it had every intention of seizing as much advantage and wealth as possible. Nonetheless, all members that currently sat within the room were well aware that rampant conflict had a way of spiraling out of control, and that sooner or later they would be asked or need to choose sides. At the moment however, the Empire was happily awash in reaping whatever profits the current situation could offer it. The arms trade had increased dramatically since the last diplomatic meeting between the nations, and the Empire had profited and would continue to profit from the sudden increase in stellar conflicts. Nonetheless, that boom would not last forever and the Empire prepared to plant the seeds that would allow it to achieve that which it sought. The path of power was that of turns within turns.

Pres: “My announcement about our treaty with the Myheri appears to have been well received. Now that it is out in the open, we can concentrate on the specifics.”

GA: “Our base of operations in Myheri space shall be moved to its location within two days, after that we will have a firm foothold in their space. Nonetheless, I hope that all of us are aware that expanding the 4th fleet’s patrol routes is simply a temporary solution. If we are going to have a naval force stationed full time in Myheri space it will have to be built, we need the 5th fleet unattached to any region capable of bringing their firepower to any point of space we designate.”

DoI: “The admiral has a point Mr. President; our moves in these times have garnered a significant amount of good will towards us from the surroundings fiefdoms. By not seizing the moment and trying to capitulate, their populations perceptions of us have tilted from would be conquerors to good neighbors. How long the good will remains will depend on our actions, which is what makes our plans so crucial. My people shall begin slowly but surely to get in the proper positions and when the time is right…”

Pres: “Yes, I want your people to bury themselves deep. One of the concessions that we received from the Myheri was a free trade agreement between our nations. The Myheri are not fools, and they will do what they can to protect their economy but I am…confident that we shall prevail in the end. If…No, when we manage to economically dominate the Myheri either directly or through subsidiaries then it shall be a model for how we should deal with the local fiefdoms. We cannot afford to have these minor nations existing so close to us without regulation.”

DoI: “I agree, as of right now they represent a security hazard that we should not overlook. The Myheri are the first, and while dealing with the situation will be a creative challenge, I assure you that all my people are prepared for it. I also wish to inform you that we have received a request from the Manasans. Their ruler and his advisors are keen on the idea of establishing closer ties with us; however, there are aspects of their military that are against this. If the ruler announces closer ties with us, he fears an assassination attempt. I would like to send some of my specialists to the Manasan ruler as…bodyguards.”

Pres: “bodyguards. You have my permission, but keep me informed of any developments. Admiral, you said that you had news to me about the Myheri naval acquisition requests.”

GA: “yes Mr. President. As you are no doubt aware, the Myheri have approached various Veithan consortiums in order to build the core for their next-generation navy. Zenith technologies are currently designing and building a series of escorts to fill that task. However, the Myheri have shown interest in purchasing five of our mothballed “Vanquisher” class battle-cruisers. I think we should allow them to do so, as long as the usual precautions are taken. The reactivation of these vessels will take only a fraction of the time of building a new ship of their size, and they remain capable platforms especially for the needs of the Myheri.”

Pres: “I approve, get right on it. Remember gentlemen, we have so far avoided any entanglements in the current galactic situation. The situation may or may not change. I plan on giving the order to expand our naval assets particularly in the escort fields. I feel confident that with the pending completion of the final black wind battle-cruisers that our capital strength is adequate. However, if the Myheri are followed by other fiefdoms as we wish…we will need more escorts to effectively patrol their space. “

The colonists of Jormungandr as well as the LR-17 and FX-11 systems were Asgard. And the simple fact is that they were not totally independent nations, all of them were Asgard protectorates colonized under legally recognized charters.

And the simple fact is that invading nations on our very doorsteps in a manner that produced massive civilian casualties is not something we take lightly. One does not ignore a rabid animal simply because it has only attacked your friends.

And we were not at your "talk-meet" because you never so much as extended an invitation.

Drealaan grinned, "Perhaps it is for the best, if the other delegates would agree to postpone official talks until tomorrow." he played with the console on the podium for a moment. "The Infallible will remain on station until these talks are over, I've cleared your shuttles for departure. Please, return at your convenience. Also," he added, "if you have any useful information that your governments see fit to make available to us, go ahead and transmit it to the Infallible, the Homeworld Senate is particularly interested in the present state of galactic affairs."

Progress Report
Ignatius Shipping Incorporated report: Progress on the new Homeworld - class battle cruiser: The early stages of development are well underway, the new Homeworld class will feature a number of improvements over present warships. Measuring some 1750 meters long, these ships will eventually replace to old Classic class heavy cruiser and may even be a precursor to a new class of dreadnaught to replace the still new Ship of the Line class.

Commonwealth Shipyards Report: The four Classic class heavy cruisers are currently undergoing an overhaul, the ships are being gutted and reworked, new hardware is being installed all over the ships to bring them up to date with the rest of the Commonwealth Fleet. It will not be long before the ships are ready to undergo final shakedown before rejoining the fleet. The recommissioning of the remaining heavy cruisers is expected to begin after the first ships have been successfully launched.

The Commonwealth fleet and a number of corporate warships have been ordered to patrol the borders of Baeloaren space, while first contact with aliens has been made, the Homeworld Senate does not want another “Megaron Mess” to occur. All civilian craft are being closely monitored by Order Police forces and Worker Soldiers are being posted on all long range civilian craft to prevent anyone from interacting with the aliens until further notice.

<< The Hajr can claim no responsibilty for your failure to arrive at the meeting, as we did not arrange it. Additionally, your claims that the Jormungandr sphere was an Asgard protectorate is simple fallacy. As per the Seccession Wars of 27 AGW, the Jormungandr sphere has been a completely independent nation. Once again, we stress that you have no claim over the systems. We have no interest in conflict with your power . >>

-ooc- Storm, I think it's fair to say that since you weren't here at the STGOD's start, I can at least set the stage here. Jormungandr had to have been acompletely independent power, or I wouldn't have indvaded in the first place.

The Combine convey moved slowly through deep space. 20 cargo vessles, with 6 small escorts, slowly made their way through the asteroid field. Although the asteroids were few and far between, it was too dangerous to travel through this region of space at FTL speeds. Gravity distortions caused by the many uncharted masses of rock and metal could cause serious damage to an unlucky ship. It was still possible to do FTL jumps in the area, but they had to be short. The lead cargo ships pushed through a cloud of debris, the shields shrugging off the interestellar dust. A slightly larger body inside the debris cloud hit the shields and was destroyed, but not before sending off a quick transmission burst.

On board his small vessel, Takh Nabr snapped to attention as his com pinged. "We got a live one." The convoy had finally arrived, and tripped one of the sensor bouys. "Get ready for the jump."

The pirate fleet formed up, 20 small frigates centered around a larger ship, nearly destroyer size. It was the pride of the small pirate group, and their ace-in-the-hole on their many successful raids. And this was to be their biggest yet. The target was the convoy of ships transporting the last bits of valuable material needed for fleet construction from Thebes to Sirius. One vessel's cargo per frigate... Takh Nabr could live like a king from the profits.

"Go." Takh Nabr punched in his FTL and reverted to realspace two seconds later, right on top of the convoy. With a whoop, he pushed the accelerator forward and sped towards the convoy, weapons pounding at the freighter shields. The light destroyer sent the signal to surrender to the convoy, and immediately the ships powered down. Nabr laughed. Almost too easy. The light destroyer began to inch towards the freighters to dock, kill, and steal.

A ship streaked out of nowhere, one that Nabr instantly recognized as a Combine Harley, peppered the pirates with fire, then sped off. A voice came over the com. "Unidentified vessels. Power down and come to, and your ships will not be destroyed. You have five seconds."

"Where did that thing come from?" Nabr wondered, but he didn't care. What a stupid ultimatum, coming from a lone frigate. Harleys were fast, but he was gonna catch it and kill it.

Suddenly, proximity alarms rang out. A small Combine fleet materialized out of nowhere, behind him and above him. Suddenly, Nabr realized his mistake. This was the real convoy escort, following a short FTL jump behind, just as the pirates had done. Two lance-class destroyers powered up their guns.

"Scorpions, come about. Let's show these Krell bastards who's-" The communication was ended abruptly as the lance-guns fired. The first round punched through the shields. The second round burrowed deep into the destroyer before the warhead detonated, vaporizing the ship. The blast took out a few of the surrounding frigates as well. Takh Nabr wasted no time in powering down his ship. The rest of his friends complied as well. Nabr slumped. They had been stupid. They lost.

The Titan capital ship moved in to dock with the pirate frigates. A moment later, the hatch to the shuttle opened up. Takh Nabr slowly got out of the pilot seat and eased his way towards the hatch. What would happen to him? He had been caught raiding a Combine convoy, and the Krell were ruthless when it came to anyone who attacked their protected worlds. His thoughts were ended as he stepped out of the hatch and was met by a blaster bolt between his eyes.

On the bridge of the Titan, the Krell fleet commander turned to the messenger who came strolling in through the door. "We got most of the smaller ships. Some fought, the rest we captured. Crews dead. The ships are ours. Some real beauties, too. More than those fucking pirates deserved. Real fast ships."

"Fast, huh? Perfect. When we get to Sirius, let's dig up a new crew for them. We could use some more Harleys."

15 Harley-class strikers added to the Combine fleets.

Radio signals lept from the Ouster vessels, the first communications the Jardanian listening posts had picked up from the black warships.

<< Jardanian Confederacy- Boundman Senior Fleet Leader Mycal su Elysium calls you, with respects, warnings, and propositions. This violence does not serve you. You are weakened. You will have trouble protecting yourself from pirates and raiders, now. You will have trouble patrolling conquered territory. I ask you this- cede your claim to the Edean system, and the debt between us will be absolved. >>

We're drifting off course, J'quan. Look at the readouts, the engines seem to be overcompensating for the gravity field of that star we hit a few minutes back. J'quan, a lowly engineer, flipped his optical receptors over the panel. Strange...isolate Component 4521561, Nm'iu. It seems one of our AI has been sabotaged or corrupted. Nm'iu growled impatiently. Isolation failed. We have a virus. J'quan's skin turned a deep red hue, and his feelers extended in anger. You know the procedure. Shut down all AI links now, before it spreads, and check our course. Nm'iu pulsed commands over his panel, then let out a shout of triumph. ISOLATED! But the damage is done, we're still drifting off course. The course correction script won't end until we reach our destination, which is.....KLKT-57681.
J'quan queried the central databank, which displayed a map showing the ship's course. Wait..the whole fleet is turning with us. Strange. Maybe the virus spread to them?Nm'iu gestured towards his panel.Impossible. This virus had to have been implanted directly. I've contacted the other ships, they isolated the virus as well. But we're all going off course. J'quan asked the databank AI what the conditions were at KLKT-57681. Latest Report Entered from specified location: 1.9 seconds ago. General Status: Warzone. Engaged Parties: C-12 (Outsters) and C-56 (Jardanians).

"We will retire to our ship then, Mr. Drealaan. We will undock and assume a close orbit around the station. If you could provide us with an aceptable time for the meeting tomorrow, we would be delighted." He shortly cleared his throat. Actually speaking was still something he wasn't used toall that much. "We will give you information on galactic affairs, as far as we know of these. But beware, it are dangerous times out there..."

The R'hlloran fleet dropped out of FTL, silent as a ghost, on the edge of battle. The virus that had taken control of the ships was still in partial control, but thankfully everything besides navigation was untouched. The fleet spread out, and accelerated towards the warzone. Thauglor, the AI of the mothership, conferred with the 13. I have restored partial control to navigation on this ship, and half of the fleet reports that they have succeded in gaining partial control. This virus is incredibly sophisticated, obviously of our own design. But we cannot discuss this now; our fleet is about to fly through a warzone. As Thauglor spoke, he ordered the fleet to raise it's shields, hoping that the fleet wouldnt be too battered by the cross-fire when they passed through. I am currently devoting all my CPU capcity to restoring control...He worked furiously, decoding quintillions of command script lines every picosecond, working through backdoors and then somtimes just bashing the backdoors in. Slowly, the virus was purged from the mothership, and he felt it's engines come back under his control. The AI on the other ships coordinated with each other, purging the virus collectively. I am pleased to report that we now have full navigational control. announced Thauglor. The fleet responded instantly, executing a high g turn towards safety. The 13 decided to hold position well outside of the battle and try to further neutrlalize the virus.

"We are aware of, and took place in, no such treaty. We declared war, and occupied this territory without help from any coalition. It is our decision what we do with this territory, and it is not yours to claim."
"Odd, seeing as we broadcast the results to you and the only way you could have taken this territory was through our raider attacks drawing Covenant forces away from these worlds. You shall pay the price"

Forgoing targeting spells the mages on board used scrying spells and simple math the calculate where their broadsides would hit... roughly, and the guns opened fire.

The great majority of the shots missed their targets, the orbital stations around the planet, but enough hit that eventually... their shields and hulls would crumble

Thee hours, a lunch, and three promises to be "out as soon as possible" later the Political Prince, the Military Prince, and a tall alien wearing a black uniform with a large orange starburst on his uniform's breast left the small attached room to the far side of the door and sat down. The tall alien seemed quite interested in a few of the papers making little barely audible oohs and ahhs at times. The political prince, after giving a sideways glare to the alien turned to the ambassadors.

"We of Monacora are very intrigued by your offer, but that being said we are not mercenaries. However, we would be most willing to assist you..."

The prince seemed to mull over his words now.

"...for an additional price. Along with the already offered services our nations would also agree to a political and military alliance, which Parliament would agree too. In return for this our Army is willing to train your ground forces, and provide better equipment. That is our counter-offer, we will understand if you need time to consider this, and your former embassy here in Andorra is available to you if you would like to use it."

The Jardanian governement changed hands the way it normally does, by removed the previous leaders head from body.

This time however, the new leader was not another hardliner, but a reformist who, with the backing of the people and parts of the army. Seized power is a mostly blodless coup.

"Attention Jardanian forces in the Eden system, you are order to withdrawl. I reapeat, withdraw."

The guns fell silent as the transmission was intercepted and translated... The orbital platforms however, were in tatters.

We will agree to a face to face meeting on neutral territory. Unfortunately given the state of hostilities we can not yet agree to an exchange of ambassadors. We suggest perhaps a meeting in Minmastar [Spyder's guys] space?
