I can keep getting to the Executor, knock out its "shields" then what? Are you supposed to ram the white glass? ISD's are pretty easy if you pluck their batteries from range the Mon Cals chew them up.

I know; last time I got three Star Destroyers, but Home One was chewed up by the ensuing wave of TIEs.

Sloppy programming. After a little bit of shooting the damn app gets minimized because apparently I clicked on the edge or something (hitting a toolbar or the desktop, I suppose)

Yeah, I should buy a $40 appliance to play a little 10-minute long freeware game. No thanks.

Someday, when I'm swimming in dough, perhaps.

Well, I play flight sims as almost my exclusive form of game... Although my joystick's of the $20 variety, and they come even cheaper.

Yep, flight sims are the only kind of game I could consider playing with a joystick; but I don't like flight sims. Space shooters, on the other hand, play better with a mouse.

Finished easy mode

1. 2 Torps for the 1st ISD generators
2. 4 Torps for the 2nd and 3rd
3. 4 Torps for the SSD

The best way to win is to keep your first X-Wing alive at 1,2

I keep my final 2 XWs for the SSD, wingmen are almost cleaned out so Home One would basically be assraped

How did you take out the SSD? I knocked out the "shield gens" then there's new targer for bridge, but torps won't fire and i rammed it with my last remaining lives heh, and still nothing.

Ignore the bridge targeting, unload all your torps on the hull.

I takes about 4 torps for full hull in easy mode IIRC.

That's insanely easy. You mean I've been unloading full torp loads on the ISDs for nothing? *Grumbles about being too used to XWA* Then again, I haven't been playing in Easy mode, for lo, the Lord sayeth that Easy mode is for wimps. :P

Star Wars Rebel Assault 1 & 2 are Space Shooters. Defender is a Space Shooter. X-Wing games, Freespace, Wing Commander. All Combat Space Flight Sims. Why? They simulate space flight in the universe with combat.

No I was talking about taking out the SSD....:)

The ISDs I usually use torps for the generators only.

If I have 2 XWs left and my shield is failing I'd unload the rest and kamikaze on an ISD (usually on stage 4 when the 2 ISDs show up)

I don't see a difficulty setting either. Maybe I'm blind. Anyhow, you have to get the SSD down to 50% hull before you can win by ramming the bridge. The target is in the center of the ship's hull, not the bridge. I prefer to hang around the Home One the whole game, keeping it at less than 10% damage before the SSD comes in (you don't even need to take out one of the ISDs by yourself, your wingmen will get it). Then I take out the shields and start destroying the forward turbolasers and TIEs while waiting for my torps to recharge. The forward four emplacements can be critical, because they can hit the Mon Cal pretty early.

The Mon Cal's always at 80% damage at least by the time the Executor gets there when I play. Its also the only capital ship left. It stands no chance.

Than I can only tell you that you need to play better. I still have the corvette around when the SSD gets in, and that draws fire nicely. The Mon Cal shouldn't have anywhere near that damage.

How do you play the beginning? I charge them, set guns to quad, and just hit; often. No matter what I just can't keep them from taking out the corvette by the 4th stage. Hell, I the neb's guns are always gone by the end of round 3.
Any tips?

I go under their formation, come up behind them, and lay waste. If you go straight into them, someone will ram you.

how many waves do you let pass before you "surface"?

Well, I turn and burn to get out there as fast as I can, so I can generally afford to let most of them pass. Also you're the fastest thing out there, A-wings included, so once behind you have enough speed advantage to just cruise on up the line and blast 'em. They don't start maneuvering until they've gotten to within a certain distance of the fleet.

I find charging the TIE formations is good way to clear one ship per wing as you pass on quad shot, just incase one heading for you, one pulse usually blows it up and doesn't let it spin out of control into you. Then turn and chase on dual shot from behind, if you clip them with 2 shots anywhere they die, even if they don't blow, if they spin out it counts as a kill.
