Wasn't Kaji dead by that time?... beside the point. I was merely making a little 'from-the-surface' observation. Whether she was trying to show Shinji that he was an adult, or just trying to get him out of his whiny, self-pity state, her motives will probably never be exactly clear. Sorry if I don't quiet see black and white on this... but she seemed to develop a rather odd attachment/detest of Shinji throughout the series. Besides... all the characters seemed to be a little off in the mentally sane department
(Gendo's borg mentality, Rei's emotionless outlook, Asukas want for attentoin and adorment for her achievment to the point of mental breakdown, Misatos strange relation with her father and her ability to get out of the loop with Kaji, Ritsukos meniachal hatred of her mother yet want to avenged).... the most undynamic, least emotionally extreme character was Kaji... his only odd quirks were his over sexed behaviors and his love for growing melons. I just think that Misato did have some strange attachment (maybe even a love... motherly and other) for Shinji that was showed in that scene. She was going to die so no point bottling up her emotions. But at the same time she used them to try and get Shinji to act like a man (which he STILL didn't!). Just an errant thought.

I don't think Shinji had much of a choice as far as acting like a man, initially. His EVA was encased in Bakelite and it was only when it moved its hand that he was able to get in and pilot it.Larz wrote:Wasn't Kaji dead by that time?... beside the point. BTW, give Shinji some credit. If you were to see the horrifying, permanently mind-scarring things that Shinji saw in the flesh (pun intended) during the Third Impact, chances are you probably wouldn't be able to act like much of a man either.
Also, I liked how during EoE, it was revealed just how similar Gendo was to Shinji. He repeats almost the exact same things that Shinji does when he finally faces the Third Impact.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

It uses religious elements in a similar fashion to Star Wars. It uses them thematically, to advance characters and plot, and to connect their struggles to the greater picture. It is not religious in the manner of most other shows or movies.Guardsman Bass wrote:Well does the show really have religious elements, or is it just superficial?

Well, he doesn't really ask you to feel sorry for him, at least. He makes it clear that while Shinji may have had a shitty life, his problems are his own and only he can fix his life.Uraniun235 wrote:Neon Genesis Evangelion is just the director's little couch trip about how nobody loves him.
I think the real tragedy of the series was the waste of such an excellent setting on such a stupid story.

Its still a rather odd story, especially at the end... I still don't get the point of having the 17th Angel being flamboyently homosexual... if not for the soul purpose but to tempt Shinji towards some wierd goal... its just wierd... I'm going to go back to watching more Trigun again..."Pain and death like me so much they brought friends!.." ahhh, good ol Vash

He probably wasn't homosexual. Kaworu was basically the perfect friend; he was willing to give Shinji whatever kind of relationship he wanted for absolutely nothing in return. If Shinji had desired a sexual relationship (which he didn't, Shinji is most surely heterosexual) Kaworu would have given it to him, but he also would not have asked Shinji to do something he didn't want to do. It's questionable whether or not he even had any sexuality, being an Angel and all.Larz wrote:Its still a rather odd story, especially at the end... Well, Kaoru being the vessel for Adam's soul, actually.
TO expand on what Korr said, Kaoru was also the first person to tell Shinji "I love you" that Shinji could remember in his entire life. That would be pretty importent to him.
