Good idea. Nader could use more votes.

In any case, I'm not sure anyone cares about Kerry's military record. They sure don't seem to care about Bush's (or lack thereof).

What Was His Job?

Post by Aaron »

Is there any word on what Kerry's position was in Vietnam. When killing the enemy is mentioned the Navy is not what comes to mind. Perhaps he was on a PBR?

He was on a swift boat. So...Pbr doesn't strike me as being too far off.

My hat comes off to anyone in the brown-water Navy (well really anybody who was in Nam...)

That makes sense. Seeing as PBR's were crewed by all-enlisted men. I've been looking at this PCF site and I've noticed that unlike the PBR's the gun positions don't have any shields. That must have sucked in a firefight.

Beware of any official "body count" from Viet Naam.
On the books, by the numbers, we killed almost 10 time as many enemy soldiers as the entire population of the country.
I won't besmirch the man's courage at the time. Shooting back instead of going foetal is a good sign. Having the presence of mind to aim, rather than blind spaying is even better. (The "Up Periscope" method of firing is rarely effective.)
Deciding you LIKE this is sick. Confusing the relief of still being alive with liking it will screw up your head, and make you do stupid shit like throwing your medals back at congress, and lying about what happened to you.
Wanting to end all of this is quite natural, after being through it.
Hmmmmmm.

These aren't like the estimates done by the Air Force after bombing an empty swath of jungle. Most of these kills would have been witnessed by his crew, who have no reason to lie.

Part of the reason why the enemy death bodycounts aren't accurate is because of how they were done. If you found 4 body parts, thats 4 kills. If you set a mine and it blew a single VC into a dozen pieces, you got a dozen kills. Kills were frequently counted bassed on the number of retrieved body parts. This didn't happen everywhere, but several units allowed this practice.

Simple. Find a site you want to link to such as www.johnkerry.com Then a pic you like. It's just like dressing your link, only with a picture. so like this:

[/ url]

Acutally kills made on the ground could only be counted if offices where present in person to count the bodies, and the war is full of sotrys and pictures of body's being moved around so this could be done. Kill count inflations come mainly from estimates on the effectiveness of the wars several million or so unobserved artillery and bombing missions.
