A Senatorsaid yesterday that the United States may have to reintroduce the military draft. So how would you feel if YOU got drafted? Proud? Pissed off? Depresed?

Eh, I'm too old for it, (26 now) But I'd go. I'd try to get tanker or something, too. THIS time, I'm gonna get to blow shit up, Come hell or high water, By gum, by golly. Plus, I got nothing to leave behind, nothing to come home to. Free spirit so to speak. I die, my daughter gets 100k. I win either way. If they allow me, I'm gone. Gone like last tuesday, man. *poof*

I'd grudgingly accept, but it's a moot point, because A) The draft will never come back (this issue pops up in Congress all the time, but nothing ever happens), because the Joint Chiefs and the Seretary of Defence both think it's a bad idea, and B) I'm not an American .

I would either enlist in the Navy before I was drafted or I would fail the draft because of my being out of shape.

i'd accept it grudgingly. If i were single and didn't have a morgage and a car payment, I'd proudly serve. Either way i'd try for a posting in Afghanistan so i could do something meaningful.

I'd plead insanity and attempt to convince them i wasn't mentally fit to be drafted. Either that or fail the physicals badly.

I'd happily go... and guess what? I'd just have to walk in, prove that I'm deaf, and walk out.

Interesting story here... back in the Vietnam era, this deaf guy was called up for the draft. Now, he was a fluent oralist, and could lipread very well, so at first they didn't believe that he was deaf. Finally they told him he could go-- but as he was walking through the door, someone called his name, and he just happened to turn towards them at that moment! The poor guy had quite a time gettin' outta there after that, I can tell ya... :D

I wouldn't be happy about it, but I'd do my duty. My grandfathers survived 4 years fighting the Nazis, I can deal with 18 months in Iraq.

I'd laugh.
  • Prior service so I'm exempt
  • Only a couple of months away from being too old for regular enlistment without a waver.
  • Wouldn't be medically qualified for duty anyway

All that effort wouldn't be neccessary. With the current policy, just tell them you're gay.

These days they have hearing test they have hearing test where they just plug you into a bunch of stuff and they can tell if you can hear or not. They don't start with those but if they need to find out whether your faking or not they will run that test.

A bunch of guys I knew ended up having to do that for their discharge physicals.

The draft comes up every Congressional session. Last time it was a bunch of Democrats sponsoring the bill and everybody on this board was screaming bloody murder. Nothing will come of this.

But if it came down to it, I'd proudly serve. I'd likely only barely pass the physical, though...

Senators have been pushing for a draft since 1973 and always claim its necessary for one reason or another. Senators push for lots of piles of bullshit the world round. But anyway, I'd volunteer before a draft was acutally necessary so I could chose my service. Though I also suspect I'd be rejected for several medical reasons.

I can't believe this is around again?

Anyway, like Tyroc, I'm prior service so I don't count, plus I'm rapidly approaching critical age. :P

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

If I saw that the draft was going to be instated in full force, I'd volunteer so I could at least choose what I wanted to do to an extent.

The link won't open up for me. Which Senator is this, is it Rangel again? Is he still flogging that dead horse?

In any case, at this point, I would grudgingly accept and serve proudly. If I was 17, however, and I knew a draft was going to be instated, I'd sign up voluntarily. It would be a huge pain in the ass right now, though.

I probably wouldn't pass the physical. Shoddy eyesight, overweight, poor motor control, all that jazz.

Only child, in the UK and a student. I doubt I would even be called if they had a draft. (by in the UK I mean I live here, very much a US citizen)

Several possibilities exist.

1) I go, grudgingly.

2) I go, on the condition I get the biggest, most bad ass personal infantry weapons the army can provide.

3) I claim I'm homosexual and try to sleep with the guy
