If I had to go, I'd go and do my duty. But if I were of draft age (oh, wait, I am!) and not doing what I was doing, I'dve already volunteered for enlisted service. As it stands now, I doubt they'd take me in, being ROTC and all. :)

And if I wasn't, I'd be in by now. So it's a moot point. But then, I want to serve.

Grudgingly accept, only to fail the physical.

If that didn't work, pretend to be homosexual.

What happens if draftees simply don't cooperate with the instructors in basic training? Do they get sent to jail?

I'd go to West point if it happened any time soon. If in too high a grade i'd go to college at once unless in wartime where I'll try to get a specialist job.

I'd accept. The only possible time the draft would come back is if the country was in utter, dire need for soldiers, and that would probably mean some significant foreign threat with lots of manpower. Under those conditions, I wouldn't have a problem defending my country.

For anyone who doesn't want to serve, there is an easy alternative. Just say your gay. Current US military law makes it illegal to be in the military and be an admitted homosexual. They sure as hell can't draft you if they are giving people discharges right now over that.

I'd like to say I'd proudly answer the call, but I don't think that's something I could say unless it actually happened.

doesn't it go on your permanent record that you're gay if you admit to it in situations like these? Not that there's anything wrong with being gay of course, i for one just wouldn't want it to go on my permanent record when it isn't true if there's another way around it.

I'd Answer the call if they wanted me, but, as far as I know, i'm ineligible for military service because of my heart surgery.

Since I’m an only child, I doubt that I would be called up to serve. If I were, however, I would serve to the best of my ability. My dad, however, would most likely lock me into a crate and ship my ass to Canada. :)

Assuming that I was of draft age, I'd grudgingly accept. Although I have 20/20 eyesight according to the last eye exam where I didn't have the chart memorized and no big medical problems, I don't think I'm fit enough to be in the military. But if I wuss out, then I'm probably going to feel very guilty about it later in life. But, unless I'm really confident about my abilities and think I can do my duty, I'd probably end up finding some way of getting discharged.

Personally, I have had a contigincy plan.

First, take a picture of my giving the finger. Mail it to the draft office.

Next, get air fare to France (they are dirt cheap right now). Seek extradition, which I believe France will grant to most Americans.

Teach English to disinterested high schoolers for a bit. Save up cash.

Use cash to relocate to a more desireable permanent home.

Of course, I could just claim to be gay, but my plan is so much more convoluted I can't resist.

I find it exceedingly unlikely that I'll be drafted.

I'd just plead gay. Or show them my myoclonus, you don't want a guy with veryshaky hands holding a gun.

Would they allow a guy with a faulty brain in to the military? (My doc claims I have a "short circuit".)

Thankfully, I don't have to worry about the draft. My glasses are too thick. They wouldn't accept me without a waiver. Besides, I'm DEP anyway.

I would flatly refuse. I would answer my country's call if I truely was needed to DEFEND our country and our allies from an enemy, ala the World Wars, but there's no way I'm going to sacrifice prime years of my life, and possibly my life itself, to further a debacle like the occupation of Iraq.

Acdept, but fortunately would end up with a desk job due to being mentally and physically undesirable for combat.

Would gladly join (Life sucks anyway), but only 16, have poor hand-eye coordination, very poor endurance and strength, and emotionally unstable... probably sit in a bunker somewhere doing a desk job, waiting to get shot by a cruise missile.

That isn't the best assumption to make considering recent events. Suppose for example that Bush decided to invade another country before the situation in Iraq was finished. In such a scenario, drafting would be pretty much his only option, and although I would think it would destroy his chances of re-election, I wouldn't put it past the pig fucker.

Id accept the call, albeit grudgingly. But then, I have kerataconus, and that stopped me from getting in last time (dammit, was even heading for Duntroon before that  )

I might disagree with the reasons for the war, but if I was called on to serve my country Id do so.

Well, obviously you'd become an American subject to being taxed and drafted after the plans to conquer Canada are enacted.

Well I'm severely near-sighted, flatfooted, have attention deficit disorder, and do a pretty good gay impression, so I should be safe.
