So, I'm getting glasses

Post by His Divine Shadow »

You know I've always been crosseyed since I was a little kid, but it was so little that the doctors didn't see it, it's never been visible infact, but when they did noticed it first, indirectly though, it was too late todo anything about it and they said it wasn't visible anyway so no bother.

However they didn't factor in that I would start to work with computers, my computer habits of sitting infront of a screen almost whole workday.
It's alot more visible now after staring at the screen, sometimes it's clearly visible, othertimes it's not, it's mainly visible if I'm tired or I've been at work all day.

Hence I went to a doctor today, so the results are that on my left eye I have 0.75 and on my right 1.25 and normal vision is 1.00, so I have better than normal on my right eye and .25 below normal on my left eye.

After trying lenses and such the doctor gave me a presciption for +0.25 for my left eye and windowglass for the right.
This is essentially for reading and sitting infront of the computer, the doctor did notice a difference when I had the lenses on so it does work.

Gonna try this now for 6-24 months if it's not better I can opt for surgery.

Good luck then. As far as I know wearing glasses with the correct prescriptions can help. Just be carefull to choose the frame to suit your face.

Since you're wearing glasses almost specifically for when you're in front of the computer you might also want to look into some of the coatings they can put on your lenses. There's antiglare and anti-UV which can both help fight eye strain from long computer use in offices lighted by flourescent lights.

Those are delicious, I'm sure they'd go down well with your friends and family. Where can I purchase a pair?

Forget the surgery, costs a shitload of money and can have severe complications, plus there's no guarantees that you won't need another surgery a few years down the line. Just get glasses that have a very light frame and nicely sized lenses (don't need those to be very big) and you won't even notice you're wearing them after a while. Won't even look any worse with them than without either. Believe me, I know, as I've had glasses for the past six years.

I'm about 20/50. My mom is about 20/700 and one of my aunts is about 20/1000. I have a lovely future of nearsightedness ahead.

I've worn glasses for about 14 years (two-thirds of my life), and it's really not that much of a hassle. However, I have heard it takes adjusting to when they're "just" reading (or computer) glasses, since they're not something you wear constantly. My eyesight's around 20/400, and I have a stigmatism in my right eye from an acid burn I recieved as a child. The combination of the two makes me unable to wear contacts (the doc said I have minute scarring on my eye, and even if I didn't the acid incident's made me phobic about anything getting near my eyes), and there's no way in hell I'd do the laser surgery, after the problems a couple friends have had with it. Even when it works properly, it's not fun.

I got my first glasses at age 19, worn them eversince.
My eyes worsened over time, although it has been stable for the last 3-4 years.
