[EBC] Happy St Georges Day!

Post by InnerBrat »

From my friend's LJ:

It's not a festival which has been much observed in recent years so for anyone who's unclear, here's a handy guide:
Wear a cretinous fvcking felt hat in the shape of a cup of tea. While doing so, drink lots of tea (ideally while blocking a major thoroughfare) and go on and on and fvcking on about your English roots. Especially if they're really tendentious, and especially if you're in Ireland or the US. And use the phrase "jolly good show" whenever possible, preferably pronouncing it in a dismal attempt at an English accent.

What ho!

Yes indeed, you wouldn't believe it though, on my way to college this morning, which takes me 40 minutes and two bus journeys, I saw one house flying a Flag of St George

Yet, St Patricks day a few months back, there were street parades and every pub was flying an Irish flag. Make's me piss this country.

English civil war?

At any rate, I had no idea this was St George's day, but let's face facts, the Dragon was not killed by St George, that's just totally absurd. The Dragon ATE St George and assumed his position.

Anyway, it's been an amazingly good day, weather-wise, and I left college an hour early.

You mean one of them, namely the Wars of the Roses. I don't recall anything about it on this date.

I think its a mexican holiday. Seeing how I live in central Texas and this week is a city wide celebration called Fiesta, ending with a parade and a school holiday on Friday celebrating the Battle of the Flowers.

Hmmm, GOOGLE!

Ah it's Independance from Mexico

The only thing that comes to mind is that Shakespeare was the one who made it about flowers, the actual War of the Roses was fought under animal based flags, I know one of them was a Boar, but I can't remember what the other one was. So there we have it, ladies and gentlemen, shakespeare was butchering our history long before Hollywood started, as we all know, Richard the third was a kind and loving man, who loved to play with his children in the tower with rubber knives...

I guess I'll have to find a dragon and go get it drunk on Tetlies or Bodingtons or some-such. I knew I had one around here somewhere...

That's the stupidest thing I've seen you write. :P

British beer is not bad, you've merely been spoiled with irish beers.

Well, I vote we all head to a pet shop and start beheading iguanas, to keep the tradition alive.
