isn't highschool a bit young for swinging parties featuring Zaia and her blouse-o-goodies?

Overall, I'd say any playground equipment that hasn't been watered down to the point where it is completely safe, and therefore unenjoyable.

Besides that, I'd say nothing was more enjoyable for me than climbing trees. It was probably because all of the trees around where I lived had no low branches for me to climb on, and when I did come across a tree with low-enough branches, I knew I couldn't miss another opputrunity to climb up to heights that would probably cause me to break several bones if I fell, and then manage to climb back down without freaking out for reasons unknown to me now.

However, since that's not technically playground equipment, I'd say the swings. It was just plan fun to try swinging yourself as far as possible.

They are designed to cater to the rightous fury of soccer moms who insisnt on insulating their children from all possible harm, thereby watering down the experience of childhood. In my day the Monkey bars were the shit! but nothing held a candle to the mighty spinning-what-the-hell-is-it-called thing of doom! Picture a dozen kids holding on for dear life as you spin faster and faster. One by one kids succumbed to the intense g forces and were flung loose and skid across the grass on their face, staining their skin green and getting a mouthfull of dirt. One would remain and would be the glorious champion of the playground. For about 30 seconds because you would do it again.... unless you drew enough blood, then you'd have to go home. ahhhhh, those were the days!

Well, you have to do some, but it's slight. I like to feel like I'm flying...but my butt's planted in a seat.

Besides, ever do that really unintelligent game when you swing as high as you dare and jump, and see who lands the farthest? I welcome the breaking of my own ankles. :)

You just have to know how to take the landing. Rolling. That's how. Try to land standing up and you will break something.

Actually, from personal experience, it depends more on A) the material you're landing on, and B) where you're landing.

If the material is pavement, or anything hard, rolling is the way to go, unless you enjoy living in splints. If it's dirt, fairly soft woodchips, or reasonably thick grass, you can get away with landing on your feet, as long as you know how to bend your knees correctly.

Also, aim away from high traffic areas, as even if the ground material is soft, in the places where everyone's been walking, it will be compacted down to a rock-hard consistancy. Normally, I've found these areas to be directly under the swings, and outside a ten to fifteen foot radius beyond the swings. The softest areas, in my experience, are that ten foot radius from the swingset, as all the feet hitting the ground under the swings as piled up a lot of material in a loose, giving fashion in this area.

Oh, one more thing, in woodchips and the like, rolling may be worse than landing on your feet, as I have many a skinned knee that can attest to the dangers of improper rolling in abrasive substances.

I haven't seen the fucking log rolling things in so long- tehy've been removed because they're unsafe. But when I was in Burlington a few weeks back for drama, we went into an elementary school playground and it kicked ass. There was like a big wobbly balance beam that we were trying to knock each other off, really cool swings, a big wavy slide- we were there until the kids came out for recess and we got thrown out. Those truly were the days- I want to go back!

Thankfully, Golden Gate Park still has the old wooden playground things. I used to run around pretending it was a starship.

You can never be too big for a swing. I must have spent 15 minutes on the swings Tuesday. And I used to do the jumping game. Sand is a wonderful impact absorber.

On a tangent, who still slides down banisters here?
