How much would a GCS be worth in SW-verse?
Suppose a spacial anomaly of the week transported a Dominion War refit Galaxy class starship in to the SW galaxy with out her crew. Shortly after the GCS arrives some enterprising chap (smuggler or something) stumbles upon the ship floating abandoned in space and boards it. Since the ship is adrift and abandoned he claims it for himself, now being of the enterprising sort he will try to make some money with his discovery, so he will try to get the best deal he can out of the GCS and all the data and tech in it.
The question is how much would the GCS be worth?

Possibly a few tens of million to possibly billions credits to a collector.
It's certainly a one of a kind

More likely from a covert ops standpoint, provided that it could be made more robust.Robert Walper wrote:One would think the transporter technology alone would make it extremely valueable, even in the military's eyes.Ghost Rider wrote:Possibly a few tens of million to possibly billions credits to a collector.

Highly debateable given that once they find out that it cannot penetrate heavy metals, let alone shielding...the military would find it a useless application.Robert Walper wrote:One would think the transporter technology alone would make it extremely valueable, even in the military's eyes.Ghost Rider wrote:Possibly a few tens of million to possibly billions credits to a collector.

A smuggling group might like it if they could refit it for hyperdrive, since it allows for easy pick up and drop offs of illegal goods or to hide them(can't they hold on to a transporter pattern for a while without having to rematerialize it)

As a whole, the ship isn't worth a great deal because it takes weeks to travel distances that Republic/Imperial ships can cover in hours. The warp drive might have some tactical value, but the ship needs a hyperdrive to compete against SW warships or freighters. It's power supply might be adequate for some needs, but it seems to run on far more hazardous fuel than SW vessels. The weaponry is definitely inadequate for any military application.
The transporters and replicators are the only things that might have significant value, and the replicators only if they can out-perform SW duplicator technology. The transporter is potentially very useful to freight carriers, though, so it might be worth millions of credits.
Otherwise, the ship is probably only worth a few hundred thousand creds at most.

practically zero. a stock light frieghter is worth 10,000, and is millions of times faster then star trek ships. given its tendency to explode and non existent weapons, its only a museum peice.

Supposedly, you can't hold on to a pattern for more than a few seconds. However, we have seen enough instances in the series to prove otherwise.Anarchist Bunny wrote:A smuggling group might like it if they could refit it for hyperdrive, since it allows for easy pick up and drop offs of illegal goods or to hide them(can't they hold on to a transporter pattern for a while without having to rematerialize it)
That gives me an idea. Do you think the Emporer would go for one if they did the whole "make-someone-young-again" thing with it like in that one TNG episode?

To sell a GCS to a museum you'd probably have to convince somebody that it's some piece of the past. That might be workable, if an old SW nation ever used a M/AM generator and warp drive, buth otherwise probably not.

Seriously, given its overall capabilities, I'd say around 15,000 credits to the average Joe, perhaps more to a collector or museum.

The ship is crap except for a few of the technologies. The transporter would be excellent for freight work, and the holodecks would make for some interesting porno experiences. Let's just hope the ship doesn't explode when the boarding party looks at the warp core funny.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Not really, it's very similar to the fairly common (but expensive) duplicators.Lord Pounder wrote:The replicator tech would be very valuable

the technology used to make holodecks already exists in the SW universe. They just haven't bothered applying it in the same fashion. All holodecks are is pretty much force fields and holo projections. Only thing of any value whatsoever might be the transporters.Lord Pounder wrote:The replicator tech would be very valuable, same with holodecks and teansporters. After the smugglers gut the usable tech they sell the hull for scrap.

Assumming that the War Galaxy is robust enoug to be fitted with SW Tech...
It would make on killer of a cruise ship witth all of that interior space to work with.

Except a GCS just isn't all that big by SW standards. The Mon Cal cruisers started out life as passenger liners, and they're monsters compared to a GCS.Isolder74 wrote:Assumming that the War Galaxy is robust enoug to be fitted with SW Tech...

The only real use I can see for a GCS, assuming it can be refit sufficiently to be worthwhile (hyperdrive, hypermatter reactor instead of the Warp Core of Doom, heavier shields, better weapons, etc.), is as some Imperial Moff's or extremely wealthy civilian's private yacht. Note that even a private yacht is probably going to need heavier shields and weapons to prevent being smacked by the first group of pirates it runs across with anything bigger than a snubfighter.
