I only had one slot left. It was Horner (the rip-off guy ), Goldsmith, or Kamen. I couldn't pick between them, so I just didn't put any of them in.Bertie Wooster wrote:DUDE,
You forgot James Horner in your poll. He's my pick.

I'm torn, John Williams is obviously the god of Movie Themes, but Hans Zimmer's Gladiator, specifically 'The Battle'- is amongst my favourite of all movie themes.
The Trekkie in me says: "Where's Jerry Goldsmith!!!?"
It will have to be williams, I mean, Jurrasic Park and The Imperial Death March- ahhh

And the Emperor's Theme, and E.T. and Superman, and Indiana Jones, and Jaws....Jon wrote:I'm torn, John Williams is obviously the god of Movie Themes, but Hans Zimmer's Gladiator, specifically 'The Battle'- is amongst my favourite of all movie themes.

Bernard Hermann (Citizen Kane, Vertigo, The Day The Earth Stood Still) would be around the top of that list for me, along with John Williams, Franz Waxman, Enzo Marconi, Jerry Goldsmith, and Basil Poledorus.

On the list, Danny Elfman, with Williams in second. Off the list, Ennio Morricone.
I like Zimmer, but much of his work sounds similar to the rest of his work, and his students tend to sound exactly like him too.
Example: listen to the main theme from Gladiator, written by Hans Zimmer (featured most prominently in the tracks "Barbarian Horde" and "The Battle")...and then listen to the main theme from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, written by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer (featured most prominently in the track "He's a Pirate!").
Notice how they sound almost the same? I mean, it's a kickass little ditty, but it leaves something to be desired in the way of variety.

For me Williams comes in first with Danny Elfman so close by.
Elfman for themes in Batman and Nightmare, Williams for Indy and Star Wars.

I would have been right there with you, but then I remembered that Elfman did Beetlejuice and Spider-Man, too (not to mention the Simpsons). He edges Williams out.Ghost Rider wrote:For me Williams comes in first with Danny Elfman so close by.

Bah, Williams gets his peons to arrange his music. He's a puss. I'm going with Danny Elfman.

I can't decide between John Willams and Howard Shore.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

My choice as well for mostly the same reason.Peregrin Toker wrote:I gotta go with Basil Poledouris, if only because he wrote the score for "Conan The Barbarian".

I'd also add that I liked the scores to Robocop, Starship Troopers and The Hunt for Red October. When he's on he makes the movie's he's scoring better. In the case of Conan he helped push the movie over the top from cheese to almost great.
