True, though there are only a few real standout animation directors, largely due to the fact that directing an animated movie is quite a bit different from directing live action, and the role of the animators and supervising animators can often be just as, if not more, important than the role of the director.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:Not to mention that, as usual, animation is pretty much ignored.Robert Treder wrote:Sci-Fi/Action genre, yeah. That's just about the only way to justify McTiernan or Jackson on any "best director" poll.Bug-Eyed Earl wrote:This poll might as well have been "Who is the best genre director working today?"
Some of the great animated directors to add to the list would be Miyazaki, Disney, Bluth (who I find to be hit and miss), Lasseter (though computer animation could start a whole list of its own)...we'd be remiss if we left out the great American short cartoon directors such as Jones, Avery, Freleng, Hanna, Barbera, and Fleischer. As far as the Japanese contribution to animation goes, certainly no one director stands out as much as Miyazaki. There have been many great anime masterpieces, but no one Japanese director has as impressive a portfolio as Miyazaki.
And lots of people like Ralph Bakshi, though I've never seen a single thing of his that I didn't find completely retarded.
