"Wonderful" dinner conversation
Ok getting stuck at dinner with the newly wed couple that is high school friends of my best friend in the park...
Things weren't that bad until the guy went on, and on about his distain of Starwars, and his love of everything Trek including voyager and enterprise.
First of all he said that Startrek was the FIRST sci- fi TV series. I pointed out that Billy Mumy was a regular on Twightzone, and Lost in Space came out well before Startrek.
He responeded with, that they didn't count because lost in space was not "Serious" and The Twilight Zone had no continuity (gee star Trek doesn't exactly have continuity anymore but I let that slide). Ok, then I pointed out that Dr. Who seriously beat StarTrek, in terms of longevity, entrance onto the scene, and initial popularity, as Startrek got it's ass kicked in the rating until it came on as re-runs, Dr. Who was a straight out hit, from the word EXTERMINATE!
His response: Dr. Who?, it's from britan no one's ever heard of it. (best friend and my ex-gf realize I am swearing my scarf, and my floppy hat and long jacket are on the coat rack, drying)
Him: StarWars ripped off star Trek
Me: no, Errol Flynn, Akira Kurasawa, Lensman, WWII movies, and Lensman, but nothing from Startrek.
What, the fuck is Lensman?
Lets just say my sci-fi fanship goes back to old pulps
By the end of the conversation he had included every single fallacy of the whole freakin list...
oh he also offended My Ex, by calling B5 a DS9 rip off....
(I'm just lucky that mike didn't make any snide comments about Akira Kurasawa films (he knows I love my bblack and whites...)

Personally, I remain absolutely calm in arguments. In remaining calm, you piss them off greatly. Many give up.

LMAO...seriously?The Yosemite Bear wrote: also he thinks that the game is accurate....
C'mon that literally puts ST in a worse light.
Sorry game mechanics should never be even considered any sort of basis casual or not simply because of how inordinatly skewed it is to allow the player to win.

He's from Kern county, erm
that means cailfornia redneck to all of you from outside of Californication.
actually he has this Fed=godly complex, I really enjoyed kicking his ass on mike's DSL link in SFC, because he won't play anything but feds, and I usually play Kitties and Hydran....
come to think of it he did try to stop me, using fed carriers, I just showed him what a lot of Phasor g's can do, and what a carrier's enhanced ECM suite is for...... idiot kept plinking my shields from long range, while I tried to keep out of his way, and used my phasor g's on slaved point defense mode...
finally he caught up with me, and took a probe and two scuicide shuttles in the face from my (mostly unarmed hydran) (funny running a ship with 4 times his fighter capacity, and no heavy weapons)

That only proves that Star Wars will own them, all they have to do is attack from above or below since Trek ships only move in two dimensions...The Yosemite Bear wrote:he want's help fixing his "illegal" copy of Armada, and can't figure out that it's security cracking down.....

Hey Yosemite, maybe you should get this Uber-Trekkie to watch Forbidden Planet some time, and see if he claims it ripped off TOS, then show him the release date (a full decade before TOS).

And I think the name was Ayn Rand, spelled kinda funnily.
Anyway we where talking about your commie friend... Next time he visits you should hide any classified military documents you might have lying around, just incase.
