I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

Oh wait, this is the War on Drugs.

Silly me. That's far more legitimate and useful to society than the War on Terror.

Yes, he was. And he shall pay for trying to counter that state.

I'm wondering if this would happen if Kerry got voted in this year though.

Of course. The war on drugs was idiotic throughout the Clinton years and unless Kerry had made a campaign promise to fix it I'm not expecting a change anytime soon.

Probably, the US has stupid policy inertia second to none...

Because drug use is a very serious social problem. The reason the War on Drugs is such an awful idea is because it is so ineffective and it costs far too much, in both monetary and nonmonetary measurements. If the War on Drugs could be waged effectively without disrupting the basic civil liberties of hundreds of Americans and wasting untold amounts of resources it would be the right thing to do. It's just like Prohibiton; a noble cause, but ultimately an impossible and insane goal.

Of course it would. There will never be a serious re-evaluation of Anti-American...err, Drug Control Policy in this country.

Of course that isn't really relevant to this case, since there's no way this guy is a danger to society.

Too bad he was disabled.

Because if he wasn't, and I was in his place, I would tell the judge and the prosecutors to kiss my behind.

In fact I would have told the cops that arrested him in the first place to kiss my behind, and brandished my rifle if they refused

He needs to appeal immediately. He's no danger to society or himself at all, and it's plainly obvious the jury was unfit to deliver a just verdict (innocent on all counts).

I really wish a law would be passed stating that the taxpayer can fully control exactly where and how each of his or her dollars is spent. I have a feeling the War on Drugs would die, and we'd have the best education system in the world out of the deal.

No we wouldn't. The majority of Americans are Christians. It does not follow that the majority of Americans want a theocracy.

Furthermore, a law that allows citizens to have a say in how their tax money is spent does not grant power to change the form of government; just power to dictate how money is spent within the existing one. It could not be used to form a theocracy.

And such a law would cripple the nation anyway. Unless you want to launch a major mandatory education program to teach the average Joe Citizen about the budgetary needs of the country, too many obscure (not necessarily secret, just not well known) but necessary programs get no money. And unnecessary stuff gets pork barrelled to high heaven.

I don't know about you guys, but not only do I now feel safer walking down the street by myself at night, but my urge to go out and get high on whatever that guy got arrested for as since decreased.

Do you have even the slightest clue what happens to cop killers? They don't get away.

So do I. Being an upstanding *Snicker* citizen of the State of Florida, I must mention my gratitude at our outstanding Judicial System. Now I must ask a certain Bar Certified Attorney how the hell this can happen...
