I suppose I would be a donor. But I wonder, I have heard of people
leaving the body "to science" for various reasons, would anybody consider doing that?

What could be worse is if some sick dude get your body and use it to do a creepy art work, while organ donation is a more humane and noble thing to do.

Why? You're an atheist and you'll be dead when it happens.

While I cannot legally be an organ donor at the present time, I figure, sure, I'd do it. I've never, ever heard of a paramedic or a doctor letting someone die so they could harvest their organs, and if I'm dead, well, it's not like I give a fuck if someone carves me into small bits, right?

Because I just am, okay? So sue me that it's not something like "because I want to be that much of a jerk." I just don't want to donate my organs after death.

Yes I am a donor. I'll be dead, I don't think that I care what happens to me after that.

Fun fact :: The Greek Orthodox Church incourages organ donors, but discourages cremation

I could care less what someone does with my body once I'm done with it. I think I'm registered, though I'm not 100% sure.

My uncle (an M.D.) told me once that the docs decide when you're too far to bring back and then call it; sometimes a bit too soon if you've got that organ doner option checked.

What kind of M.D.? And does that mean your answer is 'no'?

Now, why would the doctors do that? I mean, what's in it for them? Do they get a bonus for each pair of organs they haul in or something? Does it make sense that they would let someone die and then push their organs through a long, winding beaucratic process rather than fixing the person? Are they lazy? What is it?

I'll bet it has to do with the fact that there's a long waiting list for organ donations (IIRC) and they're only good for a certain amount of time after they stop working (again, IIRC).

I'm not an organ donor, mostly because it's not something that is often a topic of discussion here, public or otherwise, and there is little info on it that you won't actively have to go looking for. I've been meaning to get that out of the way, because I'm certainly not going to need my organs after I die, but something has always come up or I've just plain forgotten about it until something (like this thread) reminds me about it.

I don't have a licence at the moment, and I lost my card, but i am on the register.

And I damn well hope my NoK (parents) have the good sense to say "Yes, cut my beloved duaghter up and distribute her parts to the needy."

Or send my intact body for the first year meds to cut up and give silly names to.

I'm uncomfortable with the idea, but it's not like I'm going to care when I'm dead (even if I'm not a registered donor at the moment). I do give blood whenever I get a chance (I'm type O+).

I'm not currently an organ donor because I can't legally give blood. I set off one of their zillions of tests the last time I donated blood so I'm not permitted anymore. Because of that I revoked the organ donor thing on the back of my license just in case there was something really wrong. I didn't want them giving my organs away only to find out that they might kill someone. Plus, it pissed me off that I got disqualified by a false positive on the twitchies test of the blood screening.
