New Iraqi Flag Unveiled.....

Post by MKSheppard »

Image

The Iraqi Governing Council (IGC) has approved a new national flag to replace the one flown by the former Iraqi government.

The flag consists of a pale blue crescent on a white background and has a yellow strip between two lines of blue at the bottom.

The influence of Islamic groups in the IGC has reflected in the flag. Saddam’s handwritten Allah u Akibir, as a symbol of Islam in the former Iraqi flag, is replaced by a pale blue crescent.

The white stands for peace. The yellow represents Kurdistan, while the blue strips represent Iraq’s main rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates.

It is not clear why yellow represents the Kurds. Currently yellow represents the KDP, lead by Barzani.

It is also not clear whether this is a flag for the transition period or whether it is a "permanent" Iraqi one. The permanent Iraqi flag is expected to be decided by the elected Iraqi parliament.

Oh goodie, a cresent in the flag. Probably the best thing we could do for em is to get a seperation between church and state to be the first sentence in their constitution.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Having Separation of Church and state on paper doesn't make the nation all that secular, compare the US to the UK or Sweden which both have (or had) state churches and if you have a weak government takes a strong stand against its people then that government will fall.

Iraq is not going to become a western democracy from our construction, we must put them in a good enough starting position and they must take themselves the rest of the way.

Most flags do, but it could be worse and just be one of those plain boring tricolour affairs.

I bet the relegious will protest first, since there is no green in the flag.
In most arabian flags there is green, the color of islam. Ignoring it cries for problems.

We think somehow that if we change their symbols it will help make them more pacifistic? This abortion of a flag will simply add more fuel onto the fire of the Iraqis' resentment against the occupation. Even the Ba'ath Party paid heed to Muslim tradition in the design of the former nationalist flag.

Just another reflection of how inept our policy is and how the occupation authorities wallow in their total ignorance of the Iraqi national character.

Funny, when you consider we didn't design it at all deegan.

Proof
The flag was designed by an Iraqi artist and approved by the Governing Council.

Looking at this flag reminds me of the arrogance of the administration.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Ah, you're right. We got our puppets to design and approve it. That makes all the difference in the world.

The guy who designed that thing was clearly anti-europe, that or the biggest retard ever to be born in this part of the world. Either way, he should be beaten to a pulp.

In the absence of evidence to the contrary we can safely assume that, as an employee of the Governing Council (a wholly owned subsidiary of the United States of America), he is more than likely a 'puppet' as you say.

Anyway, the Iraqis apparently hate it already...
