That's what I said. Very thin ice she's walking on with that. Could come around to bite her in the ass someday.Alyeska wrote:I especialy liked reading this.

Have you ever lived near a church which actually rang bells? It's fucking annoying, it's intrusive, and it's noise pollution. It's far louder than passing traffic, and when I used to work nightshift the fucking bells used to wake me up during the day.
It's just plain noise pollution, and it's as inconsiderate as some fucker blaring Twisted Sister on huge concert-sized loudspeakers in the street on a Sunday afternoon. I listen to my music in the privacy of my home, and they can keep their goddamned prayer calls to themselves.
The problem here is that if you're going to allow one religion to shit all over noise ordinances, you have to allow them all.

I live two blocks from the aforementioned church. I only notice the bells when I'm listening for them now.

Two blocks is a long fucking distance. I lived across the street from a church. I could not sleep, and when I told them that they were disrupting my sleep, they told me to go to the city council and complain.Rogue 9 wrote:I live two blocks from the aforementioned church. If the noise ordinances specified two blocks as the radius below which noise disruption was acceptable, it would be legal to run around blaring concert-sized loudspeakers in residential neighbourhoods.

Personally, if it were up to me, i'd just let them play their speakers.
It's annoying? So what...i find many things my neighbors do LOUDLY annoy me, never do i tell people they cant to do them because i dont like it. It's loud? Have you ever heard 50 Cent's In The Club at 2:00AM driving by your window...trust me, compaed to that this stuff would be a symphony.
In my humble opinion, just let it go. Even if its annoying, surely it's not going to kill anyone.

And that would violate noise bylaws. The fact that you can't catch and prosecute the rappawannabe fucker in the ricecar at 2 in the morning doesn't change that.18-Till-I-Die wrote:Personally, if it were up to me, i'd just let them play their speakers.

I wasn't aware that "it's not going to kill anyone" is a catchall excuse to ignore regulations. In my humble opinion, just let it go. Even if its annoying, surely it's not going to kill anyone.

I dont know. I never heard church bells ringing in my country.MKSheppard wrote:I wonder in how many muslim majority areas that churches are allowed
to ring their bells across the middle east
That said I think azan should be allowed in the west. India is hindu majority country yet they allow muslims broadcast azan five times a day.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
I don't think that church bells are designed to be audible over the entire town (anymore, certainly that was the goal once). On the other hand, this Islamic Super-Speaker system is supposed to be audible everywhere: if it was not, it would not serve its purpose.
So I guess the question is what radius of noise is allowable. If two blocks is okay, is an entire town acceptable?

I live about 30 metres away from one.Darth Wong wrote:Have you ever lived near a church which actually rang bells?
Says you. I like the melodies they play on their different bells. It's fucking annoying,
So is office chatter. But people adapt.it's intrusive, and it's noise pollution.
You never adapted? The church next to my flats go crazy at 9am on Sundays. They used to wake me up, no matter how late a night I had on Saturday, all the time in my first month here, but now, I sleep through them. I'm pretty sure most people adapt to church bells too. It's far louder than passing traffic, and when I used to work nightshift the fucking bells used to wake me up during the day.
Who am I to rock up to my Church, and bitch about their bells? The Church was there first, and it caters for many people, while I am just one person. If the bells still bothered me after I tried adapting, I'd move.
Fine, let them. Bells don't bother most people [in the long run], and I'm sure Muslim pray calls wouldn't bother most people either. The problem here is that if you're going to allow one religion to shit all over noise ordinances, you have to allow them all.

In my country mosques use large mikes to broadcast azan. It is audible over a large distance. Infact in muslim countries almost all houses are covered by mosque loudspeakers.Howedar wrote:I don't think that church bells are designed to be audible over the entire town (anymore, certainly that was the goal once). Irrelevant subjective bullshit. The point is that they violate noise ordinances.BoredShirtless wrote:Says you. I like the melodies they play on their different bells.
Office chatter doesn't wake me up in my own house, moron. So is office chatter. But people adapt.it's intrusive, and it's noise pollution.
I shouldn't fucking have to. If I went around playing "Number of the Beast" on concert-sized loudspeakers in public streets people would refuse to "adapt", and would rightfully cite me for shitting on noise ordinances. You never adapted? It's far louder than passing traffic, and when I used to work nightshift the fucking bells used to wake me up during the day.

If church bells violated noise ordinances, they'd be banned. The obvious point is that it's noise pollution.Darth Wong wrote:Irrelevant subjective bullshit. The point is that they violate noise ordinances.BoredShirtless wrote:Says you. I like the melodies they play on their different bells.
No shit. The point is this; if you can't adapt to church bells, either get enough people with you and complain about them to your council, or move. Assuming the Church was there first, it's YOU who has to adapt, change the status quo through majority complaining, or move. I know you did complain, but you should have known that a complaint from just you, and especially to the Church, would have fallen on deaf ears.Office chatter doesn't wake me up in my own house, moron. So is office chatter. But people adapt.it's intrusive, and it's noise pollution.
If the Church was there first, and isn't violating noise ordinances, then sorry, but you do. Or move. Or complain effectively.I shouldn't fucking have to.You never adapted? It's far louder than passing traffic, and when I used to work nightshift the fucking bells used to wake me up during the day.
Right, mainly because you're only doing it for yourself. Church bells and calls to pray serve many people. If I went around playing "Number of the Beast" on concert-sized loudspeakers in public streets people would refuse to "adapt", and would rightfully cite me for shitting on noise ordinances.
