NFL Draft

Post by Straha »

What do you think of it?

All I have to say right now is that the Giants were really really damn stupid...

and the Chargers and Lions made out like bandits!
we got a plug for the hole that was Ted Washington and a halfway decent Tight End. Not to mention our pre-draft trade for Corey Dillon! ph34r!

I think the Cards did okay. Certainly the team has two very good recievers now. I'm just not convinced they have someone to throw to them.

The Dennis Green era in Arizon is definately going to be interesting.

It was nice to see Robert Gallery (OT, Iowa) go so high, even if it was to Oakland.

The bitching and moaning over picking an offensive lineman is in full swing over here. I'm of two minds over it. It would have been nice to have taken someone who could contribute immediately, but that O-line is going to need to be rebuilt in a few years. It should look better this year because the wideouts should be getting open, but it's getting long in the tooth and injury problems are starting to crop up.

You've got more to look forward to than that. The Fins have to be quickly reaching the point where Ricky Williams has carried the ball entirely too many times and can no longer be effective.

I'm pretty happy witht he bengals draft. The so called "draft experts" are all over the palce with how they rate this draft for us, but who cares what they think? Instead lets hear what I think.

First Round:
Chris Perry RB,
A hell of a running back who has shown he knows how to pund it up the middle (51 carries against Michigan State) but also has moves to make defenders miss and also has good hand to catch the ball. I think he could be an NFL starter in a few years, but for know I think he's about to become the best 3rd down back in the NFL. Him and Rudi are going to make a punishing tandem.

Second Round:
Keiwan Ratliff CB,
I'll admit I haven't heard to much about this guy but he did lead the SEC in interceptions, and the Eagle were trying to trade with us so they could pick him up. I'll trust Marvin on this one, he looks like he could come in and be our nickelback.

Madiu Williams FS
Never heard of him before but he looks like he could have promise as the eventual replacement for Kim Herring. A back up but he should be a starter in a couple years.

Third Round:
Two linebackers, can't remember there names, both are said to be a little undersized but are extremely quick. People are complaining about this, but remember people said the same things when Marvin as the D Coordinater in Baltimore drafted Ray Lewis. Marvin knows defense and so I expect both these guys to eventually be solid players, and they should do good on special teams thsi year.

Fourth Round:
Picked up a massive run stuffer Mathis Askew who came out as a junior and was predicted as a first rounder if he'd stayed another year. May take a year or two to become a starter but he is exactly the kind of DT we needed.

Also got a DE in Geathers who is also coming out a year early and looks to have some promise as a pass rusher, we'll see how it goes. Hopefully he will eventually take over for Duane Clemons and start opposite Justin Smith.

Picked up a massive RT in Stacy Andrews, the older brother of the Eagles first round pick this year Shaun Andrews. He's a project who's only played in five college games after being a hammer thrower in most of college, gave up a shot at the olympics to go in the draft. 6'6" 340, If it works out he could eventually be Big Willies replacements in three or four season.

Fifth Round:
CB Greg Brooks, he's a fifth rounder. Hopefully he ends up being solid. Other then that I don't know.

Sixth Round:
QB Casey Bramlet. I have hopes for this guy turning into our long term back up for Carson Palmer. My new SI which I got in the mail a couple days after the draft ahd him listed as a late round sleeper with good accuracy and arm strength, but on a bad team in college.

Kitna has signed an extension for two more years, but the second year is rather pricey, so I don't expcet him to be back after next year unless he renegotiates again. So hopefully we've got a long term number two guy here.

Well that was long, but hell, its not like you had to read it.
