The only explosions that don't leave anything behind are anti-matter explosions. Of course, there are "other" ways of telling what sort of explosive was used.

Well anti-matter anhiliations create either a gluon, a photon or a Z particle, the Z particle decays too fast to detect and the photon isn't anything special; but the release of gluons are a dead giveaway.

Laz, we dont place 2nd level mages in the military. They are not on world. I suggest you edit your post.

Perhaps you'd care to tell what sort of mages would be found on regular patrol? They can't all be level 10 mages.

Laz, thirdfain is right. Though to be fair, if you were persistant, you might eventually find what you need through a long drawn out pirating campaign. However, that is likely to draw a lot of attention from Alyrium, who I think likes to go a little overboard at times (see the actions in Sol).

Really? Not one? You need to have a very large army, are all of them high-level? Even the front line-grunts, fresh outta boot camp? How do you manage? What is the lowest level mage you have? Cuz Laz will just steal from that guy.

And remember, we are keeping your magic consistant to the tech level. Your ship was ambushed in deep space. Teleporters dont have the kind of range that you are bosting for the plane shift. The only place you could go to is onto Laz's ship, and that wouldnt turn out well for you. Please edit your post accordingly.

Bystander, I think it's fair to say tha the crew could wreck the ship's magical reactors and so forth. If someone nabbed an Ouster merchant vessel, they'd almost certainly find the ship' s freecasters and Kincaid drive busted.

What sort of response? I'd be inclined to respond with an escort force, given that he's kind of in a state of war. Would you send random cargo ships with important shit around unescorted with things as turbulent as they've been?

Jesus, Rogue, unless he's working his ships in convoys (something he'd have to post,) every one of his merchant vessels wouldn't be escorted.

There are TONS of Ouster military transports moving about the Occupation Zone without escorts, and you might even succeed in nailing a few of them- but remember, this is one transport vessel out of a fleet of hundreds. It's hardly important.

I edited the post so that they dont ruin the ships.. But um.. Every ship has a convenient and obvious self destructe device in the form of a glowing mythallar of a reactor. They simply destroyed that, cast Mords Disjunction on all the magic items, shreded the scrolls, and basically cast a spell that wiped all their spells out of their mind so they cant be forced to give the info on casting.

and frankly ANY SHIP CAN SELF DESTRUCT.

The secondmate shifted into the Plane of Shadow it isnt instantaneous, it is like moving in a world of darkness. We have bases there as well. Consider it like an escape pod.

Yeah, well that's a side issue, even. My main beef is that Laz somehow managed to magically seize the ship with no resistance at all, and provided no reason for why this was the case. I seized the smuggler ship without having my Marines shot at, but I gave a damn good and reasonable explanation for that. This thing with "I win because I'm awesome and can't lose" has got to stop.

Yes, they can easily overpower the ship. Its the boarding operation that's the problem; specifically the lack of one.

He teleported the crew out one by one, of course, as Alyrium pointed out, in the time they spent battering down the shields and tugging the vessel into hyperspace, the crew was able to destroy the ship's valuabl stuff.

OF course, if he tries that against a military craft, or a prepared civilian craft, they would be able to use jammers to render the teleporters useless. I think it's OK to not write a lengthy boarding post for a simple, unimportant raid like this one.
