3 years is not really that much distance.
Only concern is she'll be done with college possibly when you're not, but that can be resolved later.

Elheru, the saying "Good things come to those who wait" does not apply when looking for a partner. If you like her and she likes you, then you have no excuse whatsoever to back out. If you don't even try, how the hell will you know whether or not something long term will develop? It's the same every time you meet someone new, you won't be able to tell immediately, getting to know one another takes time, and a good, solid relationship can survive some time being apart. There is also the fact that it's better to see where this will lead than regret not doing it for the rest of your life.

Well, except for when I asked this one cute waitress out who I thought was mid-20s, and I found out she has five kids and the oldest of them is fifteen.Stofsk wrote:Everyone says go for it. You should listen to them. They're right.

But even then I won in that now I have a funny story to tell people about the time I tried to pick up a waitress at Shari's.
You nailed it on the head right there. Even if you lose you still "win" - maybe it's the experience you gain, what to say, what not to say, or maybe you can laugh about it later. Whatever the ultimate outcome it is always better to do something rather than stay at home and do nothing.Uraniun235 wrote:Well, except for when I asked this one cute waitress out who I thought was mid-20s, and I found out she has five kids and the oldest of them is fifteen.

Besides, El - a three year age difference is nothing.

Thats an insignificant age difference, I wouldn't bother with it.Elheru Aran wrote:Anyways, I'm 19-- she's 22... I think she'll be a senior next year (although i'm not certain of that, but it's probable), and i'll be a sophmore.

Really? I've always thought the biggest changes occur between 15-18 and after that not alot happens or atleast very slowly.Bertie Wooster wrote:Going out with a 22-year-old girl would be a lot more fun than going out w/ a girl your own age so definately go for it. When I was 19, I went out with 2 girls who were both 22 and it was a good experience for me with both of them because they were more mature about dating and life in general, and also knew how to have more fun than girls my own age. A lot of growing up occurs between the ages of 19 and 22.
Differing societies I guess can have an effect.

hmm... between 19 and 22 you´re likely to be at uni which means you get really smart. not the semi smart whcih you can get in highschool, but the real smart whcih you can only get in uni.His Divine Shadow wrote: Really? Well over here highschool usually ends when you're 15 or 16, then you usually move out of your parents house as you live in dorms or apartments(usually it's a dorm for the school where you goto, that usually lasts 2-3 years then many people study another 2-3 years or more, or they start working) for several years at other schools, you become alot more self-reliant and such during those years.salm wrote:hmm... between 19 and 22 you´re likely to be at uni which means you get really smart. not the semi smart whcih you can get in highschool, but the real smart whcih you can only get in uni.

9 grades(Elementary school grades 1-6 and Highschool grades 7-9), you usually start school at 6-7 and it's usually a year of kindergarden before that.salm wrote:15 - 16wow, how many grades do yuo have? most countries it hink have 12, here there are 13, so you usuall are finished with 18 or 19 and then you do a year of military or social service, so you start uni at 19 or 20.
After that it's usually another 3 years of education of free choice, after that you either work, do your required time in the military or continue on with additional or higher schooling.

Are you shitting me? Of COURSE you should go for it! Geez!Elheru Aran wrote:Okeydokey... well, you see the subject? ^ there thats it...
9 grades... amazing. that´s the lowest limit of regular school you can and have to get around here. it´s called hauptschule and with hauptschule you are very limited in further education. you can basicly only do craftsman jobs and similar stuff. His Divine Shadow wrote: 9 grades(Elementary school grades 1-6 and Highschool grades 7-9), you usually start school at 6-7 and it's usually a year of kindergarden before that.

then threre´s realschule which is 10 years and is required for stuff like working in banks and some office jobs.
if you want to go to uni you have to go through 13 years of gymnasium.
how the hell do the finns manage to get fit for uni in only 9 years? (probably because they smoke less pot

You can't get into uni directly from highschool anyway, you have to attend Gymnasium for that, it's all theoretical stuff, languages, math, etc. and usually takes 3-4 years, the really smart ones can pass it in 2 years, it's like college.salm wrote:how the hell do the finns manage to get fit for uni in only 9 years? And almost everyone here takes atleast three extra years of education, such as metalworking, truck driving, plumbing, construction, computers, economics.
These are basic degrees, many computer guys study more, some construction guys study further and become engineers etc.
It's only really metalworking, driving and plubming that doesn't really require any extra schooling because only real work experience will get one further there.
Coming out of highschool here doesn't mean your fit for a job, it just means you have the basics, now you start studying more specialized for whatever field you plan to work in, or you goto the gymnasium.

But keep in mind that European education completely kicks the shit out of our pathetic NAC (North American Combine) education.salm wrote:9 grades... amazing. His Divine Shadow wrote: 9 grades(Elementary school grades 1-6 and Highschool grades 7-9), you usually start school at 6-7 and it's usually a year of kindergarden before that.

Yes!!Elheru Aran wrote:So is waitin' till next semester an issue... should i pursue things now, considering i'll be living just outside town and she's taking summer classes (and therefore staying around)?
[Ahnold] HIT IT!! HIT IT NAAAOOOWWW!!

The longer you wait, the more likely it is that she'll meet another guy. Also, she may take a long delay, like summer break, to mean that you're not interested.
That's a mistake you can't afford.

Hear that, its the sound of Kosh talking inside your mind. He says:
"Jump on her. Jump on her now!"
Do yourself a favor and take that leap. Older women are excellent.

Just go for it. The more you temporize and debate the issue internally, the less passionate and interested you come across.Elheru Aran wrote:The big issue, really, is mainly that I'm a long-term-relationship type of guy... I tend to go in looking for a good long run, I'm not into the whole spark-two-months-then-break-up thing. She'll be graduating next term, most likely... that makes things kinda awkward when you look at it from my angle, cause she'll be moving out of town and workin', and i'll still be stuck here. I'm just trying to decide whether it'd be worth it to start up a relationship, considering that...
Internal conflict is not attractive in a guy (to a girl).
Girl: Do you think I'm pretty?
Guy: (thinks)...Well, yes. I guess. Are you planning to stick around?
Girl (faints from the overwhelming nature of your flattery)
The first, best choice you can make in a relationship is to enjoy the woman in the here and now. See where it takes you. She might like you enough to change her plans just to be near you, or you to be near her. Or, you might be comforted because she'll never move away, but lose interest in 3 months anyway. The biggest risk to your relationship is not to have one.

Well, update...
Met up with her tonight... she brought her little sister (ok, so 20 isn't exactly "little"...). hung out, had fun... went to IHOP for supper... seemed to pretty much just be a friendly evening, at least IMO. she does definitely seem interested... she mentioned the other night that she doesn't know too many people here, and that (her words) she's glad she has someone to talk to now... good sign? i'm thinking that, definitely...
Didn't hit on her too much though, as her sister was around... I can certainly hit on more than one girl at once (i think one time i was flirting with about ten girls at once... that was back in high school though... man, i was some ladies' man back then-- hard to believe now), but for results i prefer to concentrate on just one at a time. so i decided to wait and see... she also said something about us gettin' together sometime soon this summer. very good sign, and that's definite.
oh, and a tidbit... she's actually more strawberry-blonde than actual redhead. her hair just darkens when it hasn't had much sun, is why i thought she was redheaded...
