Can anyone give me an explanation as to why/what motivated Ralph Nader to reun presidentially?? The only plausible one is that he has the ego the size of the entire US CO output.

Seems to me that if the Greens really wished to be anything more than a dinner table joke, they would have simply put him up as a Senator/Congressman in the Pacific NW (where most of their vote was)?

When was the last time an Indie sat in either house??

Apparently Vermont currently has one Representative and one Senator that are both listed as Independents on Congress.org

Representative Bernard Sanders (I-VT At-Large) I'm not sure what the "at large" bit means.


In most cases when someone is an Independant they usually declared themselves as such after they are already in office. I could maybe see a Representative getting elected as an Independant but it would be really tough for a Senator.

Who knows what the deal is with Nader? I think on some level there must be some ego involved. I like the idea of trying to push for viable choices other than the Democrats and Republicans but the Greens really haven't done that. If anything they are weaker this time around than the last.

I think Perot's Reform party would have had a decent shot except Perot proved himself to be a bit of a wacko/control freak. So his need to be in charge kind of killed that one.

The Libertarians in my state usually put up canidates each election (usually the *same* canidates each time) and they rarelly do well. Ocassionally they might get some sort of office on the state or local level but not too often.

The problem with Libertarians is that they have an extremely wide range of ideas. Some are so anti-government as to be ridiculous while others are fairly decent.

Vermont is a state with only one Representative. Because there is only one Rep, there are no districts, so he is the Rep for everyone in the entire state or the Rep 'at large'. The Dakotas, Wyoming and Idaho are the same way IIRC.

We have Greens on the city council. Fucking assclowns. The Brown and RISD kids live here part time for 4 years, and plop a nitwit on the city council and another in the State Legislature to represent their little slice of crazyville. I swear, they make up half the vote on the east side. They always have the same agenda. Raise business and private property taxes, jack up the city minimum wage to 12 bucks an hour yadda yadda yadda. What do they care, they don't have to pay for it, they go home and live with their goddamn parents after they graduate with their degrees in art history or sanskrit.
