Hope they have more realistic protitutes, the ones in stock NWN are arrogant, self-rightous pricks.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Oooh....I'm going to have to add them to my favorites for when a final version and modules start coming out. That was one thing I wanted from the beginning was a modern expansion for NWN.

Why isn’t that ever an issue of politics? Because you don’t live in a democracy. You live in a plutocracy. Money rules.
I'd take a proper mathematically modelled system over a PC implementation of a pen-and-paper monstrosity any day. Systems without sharp cutoffs, real-time curves, without cutting out accuracy to reduce paperwork... it's lame that they just port standard RPG code, when they've got all the housekeeping and processing power they need.Sr.mal wrote:Meh. Ill take my L5r D10 any day over a d20 game. God I love AEG's D10 system.

Oh my, programmers making games that RPG people would like, what has the world come to wonder what's next, a game that simulates Chess or card games, with random cards numbered from 1 to 13 and four suits, instead of an infinite range of random numbers that can give a much better curve of probability

The trouble with a complex mathematically modelled system is that the players won't have the kind of instant understanding of it that they need in order to make decisions about what their character can attempt or not attempt, what their alternatives are, and how to progress the character.
This is why people are daunted by Rolemaster, and the five hundred billion stats and variables it requires, even though the actual dice rolling boils down to something quite simple. People take one look and go "no, I can't be fucked, I'll play something else"
RPG systems work best when their probability curves can be worked out in the brain of the average high school student with too much Mountain Dew inside them or the average university student with too much beer inside them..
A system like D20 might not be anal enough for you, but people who use it can easily gauge their character's abilities, assess their options, and choose their course of action, all without either dying because the computer controlled monsters don't have to sit and work all the probability curves out, or pissing off everyone they're playing with by spending ten minutes agonizing whether to try and pick the lock or pickpocket the guard for a key
The best computer RPG systems are the ones that simplify things like that, not make it all complex for the sake of 'realism' at the expense of immediacy.

Bullshit. Star Wars d20 is completely different; the only thing it shares is the types of dice you need.Sr.mal wrote:L5r d20 is shit compared to the d10 version. The d20 is just DnD with different names.

I'm not refering to Star Wars d20, I own that book I know. I am refering to the Rokugan D20 which is identical to DND d20.

There's still the possibility of systems that are easy to understand but hard to calculate. Take my friend Toh's exponential system. Your probability of suceeding at any task is e^-x, where x is the difficulty. You get nice smooth curves with no cutoff, and you never get the normal Dfoo problem where something that is difficulty foo+1 is just as hard to do as something of difficulty foo. The system is easy enough mathmatically, at least for those of us who can figure probabilities in normal RPGs, but its a bit combursome for a kitchen table.Vendetta wrote:The trouble with a complex mathematically modelled system is that the players won't have the kind of instant understanding of it that they need in order to make decisions about what their character can attempt or not attempt, what their alternatives are, and how to progress the character.

OMG! Not only RPG players like them, but they had the nerve to call them RPGs! I tell you, one of these days, bang! straight to the moon!Stark wrote:Lol RPG players like them... and thats it.
Of course! Because the way to grow the market is to change everything we know, instead of adding more variety! Yeah, we should completely erase 1st person shooters and RPG games and puzzle and card games, and make games about calculating the probability curve of the mating habits of the African elephant! Now THAT's innovation and progress.Way to grow the market 'Innovation' and 'progress' unheard of, excellent!!
