A D&D3 Magical Weapon
Here's my idea:
Take a decanter of endless water, set it on it's side and attach a metal pipe to the end. Affix it to a gun/crossbow frame. Bend the pipe around and place a cartridge/wand in the handgrip so it intersects barely with the water flow.
Now, you activate the geyser function and then you open the valve to let the water out. Depending on the wand/cartridge you can either infuse the water with supercold temperatures or with electricity. The electricity gets conducted through the stream to the target, doing shocking grasp damage in addition to the possible knockdown. The cold cartridge turns a shot into an eight-inch wide bolt of ice that does sick impact damage. It doesn't freeze in the barrel, because the water is chemically pure, but instead freezes on contact with air.
Anyone have any comments on my "Gun of Hydro-whupass"? Is there any reason why it shouldn't work? I don't want to build a flawed weapon.

Well, for the lightning version, you could both electrocute yourself and get better results for cheaper with a wand of lightning bolt.

Almost as good as the Decanter Of Endless Alchemist's Fire.

Shocking grasp is cheaper to make and to replace, remember, I'm going to be replacing the clips every so often.Rogue 9 wrote:Well, for the lightning version, you could both electrocute yourself and get better results for cheaper with a wand of lightning bolt.
Thanks. I figured that if the decanter has a 1-foot wide jet that if I make the apeture 3 inches then I can increase the flow-velocity to about 45 mph. Anyone know what happens when you get hit with 240 pounds of ice travelling that fast? The ice version sounds good though.
Please... tell me more! My character is a gnome inventor named "Doc Clockwork", and he's an alchemy master.Almost as good as the Decanter Of Endless Alchemist's Fire.

Go for it. For the "cold" charge I recommend either a Cold Orb spell from Tome and Blood, or a Chill Metal spell, but that's a druids-only spell that you can cast on the barrel. Regardless, be sure to have rubber or wooden handgrips. Also don't forget the recoil or the fact that its a constant-fire device but that the Cold Orb isn't constant. Ideally a druid would make the chilled barrel as a specialty piece.frigidmagi wrote:Mind if I borrow the ice version? I have players to maim
You could hold it like an uzzi, but my gnome has to carry it on a backpack. A critical fumble means the barrel is clogged and you have to spend 4 rounds clearing the ice. What kind of dmg do you think it should do?

Badly, badly deranged Dwarf. Well, such is obvious; he made Arcane items! He was a 'Raver'... A Dwarven Sorcerer whose gift drove him batty. He was, however, devastatingly brilliant with alchemy, and never wanted to leave his precious 'firewater' behind. It worked just like the Water, except it expelled the liquid known today as Alchemist's Fire.CaptainChewbacca wrote:Please... tell me more! ....You can kinda guess the rest. Flamethrower. The Dwarf, by the by, had no hair on his head. Not even eyebrows.

Well, if I'm spraying it around, it's gonna break off into chunks that are about 10-15 feet long. If I have a 3 inch apeture to provide for 40 mph velocity, I figure that it's the equivalent of 20 lbs of ice, traveling that fast.
So, it's like four longspears. I think...
edit:
After reviewing page 89 of the DMG, table 3-18, given that something moving 40 mph is moving as fast as an object that has fallen 20 feet, I believe it would deal at least 4d6 damage.
Of course, this seems like not a lot. This crap could punch through WALLS, man!

Sounds pretty wicked. Here's an idea for a devastating incindiary device. How about putting one of those Endless Alchemical Fire Decanter whatzits next to a really powerful lightning orb thingy? Put both in a nice big box (or in a swimming pool devoid of water!) with a fuse designed to tip the decanter over after a certain amount of time, put the lightning orb on a platform so the alchemist fire fills up the box nice and FULL when it hits the lightning orb...
If you could somehow bless the water, so that it was Holy, then that weapon would be doom against undead and evil outsiders.

I'll look into that, maybe a holy gun-barrel that blesses the water as it passes through. I'm so glad everyone likes my gun.Defiant wrote:If you could somehow bless the water, so that it was Holy, then that weapon would be doom against undead and evil outsiders.
