Suprised this hasnt been posted. A Republican Guard General is to lead an Iraqi force in Fallujah to restore 'peace'.

I mentioned it briefly on another thread, but yeah it deserves its own thread. He still wears his Army uniform.

This is really funny; I first saw this flicking through cable news channels; right after listening ot FOXnews's 'the whole insurgency was planned by Saddam years ago, and is being carried out by former Saddam supporters' I see the 'USMC around Fallujah to be relieved by former Saddam General'... one more FOX retcon down the toilet

Obviously he was in on the planning so he should know how to fix it!Stark wrote:This is really funny; I first saw this flicking through cable news channels; right after listening ot FOXnews's 'the whole insurgency was planned by Saddam years ago, and is being carried out by former Saddam supporters' I see the 'USMC around Fallujah to be relieved by former Saddam General'... one more FOX retcon down the toilet

So? We should have never dissolved the Iraqi army in the first place. Not everyone in the old Iraqi army was a war criminal, for God's sake.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
Oh, and he's not Republican Guard, he's regular Iraqi Army. The 38th Infantry was not an RG unit.
However, the 38th was involved in the crushing of the Shi'ite rebellion. Hopefully they checked on this guy.

This is worse for the insurgents - killing coalition troops is one thing, but if they start killing fellow Iraqis trying to bring law and order to a chaotic area they'll have a much harder time justifying themselves.

Oh, I'm sure they have —given the thorough and meticulous planning that's gone into the occupation effort to date...Vympel wrote:Oh, and he's not Republican Guard, he's regular Iraqi Army. The 38th Infantry was not an RG unit.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

Even so, I doubt they would put him in command of anything bigger than a prison cell if he was a Saddam loyalist. I seriously doubt that anyone over there's stupid enough to not check up on him.Patrick Degan wrote:Oh, I'm sure they have —given the thorough and meticulous planning that's gone into the occupation effort to date...Vympel wrote:Oh, and he's not Republican Guard, he's regular Iraqi Army. Don't be a dumb-ass. Every officer in the Iraq Army was a Saddam loyalist. If they weren't, they died. So all they can do is check to see whether he's been actively involved in the insurgency or whether he took part in any particularly well-known atrocities, and since they don't really know who's been involved in the insurgency, the former is not possible at all while the latter doesn't say much.Rogue 9 wrote:Even so, I doubt they would put him in command of anything bigger than a prison cell if he was a Saddam loyalist. I worded that badly, sorry. I meant to say whether he still remains loyal to Saddam, and whether he participated in any atrocities.Darth Wong wrote:Don't be a dumb-ass. Congratulations are in order for the Bush Administration. I had managed to convince myself that nothing they did would surprise me any more. This surprised me.Joe wrote:Yet ANOTHER update:

Well there could be a case made for an new era of cooperation between the occupation force and the insurgents ... no, no one would be that stupid to even try and selling that, would they?Joe wrote:Yet ANOTHER update:

It distracts attention away from his own blunder of going there for no disernable reason by putting the blame elseware.
