American Deserters...Canadian Boycott?
The basis of the story here-

I am not sure if you guys are Factor viewers but this story is directed towards all Americans and even other citizens of the world. If Canada does not give up the soldiers, would you boycott Canadian goods? Do you think this undermines the US' position in the war on terror? In general, what do you think of the whole mess?

This poll is quite moot for me (since I'm a Canadian), but if it were up to me, those two deserters should be sent back to the States, then be court-martialed and sent to Fort Leavenworth for the rest of their lives (too bad the firing squad isn't an acceptable punishment for desertion anymore). C'mon! they were VOLUNTEERS, not conscripts like during Vietnam, and thus they should rightfully face the full consequences of their actions.
If they thought the Iraq war was wrong and wanted no part in it, they should have declared themselves Consciencious Objectors and faced the music, like Staff Sgt. Camilo Mejia did.
Paul Martin says he wants to improve our relations with the US. Handing over these two worthless cowards would be a good place to start.

O'Reilly's Fuckhead Factor doesn't bother mentioning whether the US has attempted to initiate extradition proceedings yet. Does anyone know?

They actually applied for Consciencious Objector status but were denied, due to statements on their websites that they would fight in self-defense.Ma Deuce wrote:If they thought the Iraq war was wrong and wanted no part in it, they should have declared themselves Consciencious Objectors and faced the music, like Staff Sgt. No, but it doesn't help that elements of the Canadian media are embracing these two fucktards, especially the CBC, (which I now consider to be as worthless as Faux News), who ran these promos:Darth Wong wrote:O'Reilly's Fuckhead Factor doesn't bother mentioning whether the US has attempted to initiate extradition proceedings yet. "For more than 200 years, Americans have been escaping war and strife in the US by heading north,"
"They came during the War of Independence, the Civil War, the Vietnam War ... and now there's that other war in Iraq. It's only a trickle, but it's starting to happen again."
O'Reilly is of course, using this as ammo, especially since CBC is owned by the government (of course it's independantly run, but it's very easy for someone as unscrupulous as O'Reilly to neglect to mention this)
After being denied CO status, they should have actively refused to follow orders and willingly face a court martial. What they finally decided to do was nothing more than shameful and dishonorable.Bob McDob wrote:They actually applied for Consciencious Objector status but were denied, due to statements on their websites that they would fight in self-defense.

Does it really make a difference why CBC did it?Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:That's nothing more then stupid advertising. They're embracing the ratings.

Given the CBC ratings - yes - - the extra 10 viewers they get double their Nielsen ratings for programs not hockey relatedMa Deuce wrote:Does it really make a difference why CBC did it?Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote:That's nothing more then stupid advertising. They're embracing the ratings.
Seriously - CBC will embrace just about anything these days that is radical/far left IMHO. Hopefully the next government will be at least a minority with the Conservatives as major players - say goodbye CBC. The non-confidence vote and new elections can take place the next day once CBC TV has been cut from the public feed.
Given the way the Canadian extradition system works (especially if they claim to be "refugees") the US might have to wait until the 2008 presidential elections to get them back.
They weren't drafted, they volunteered. They knew full well the potential ramifications of their decision to enlist when they signed on, they're a bunch of fucking cowards.evilcat4000 wrote:There is no reason to boycott Canadian goods. I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.
Staff Sgt. Mejia did the right thing. Like these two, Mejia refused to fight in an "unjust war", but unlike them, he also had the moral convinction to face the legal consequences of his decision. This distinction is the reason I respect Mejia and his decision, but at the same time feel nothing but contempt for those two deserters.evilcat4000 wrote:Those soldiers did the right thing by deciding not to fight an unjust war.

Who cares if Canada doesn't send them back? What reason other than throwing them in buttscrew prison would we have for wanting them? They won't return.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

The same reason you want any other criminal extradited back. So they don't encourage this type of behavior by getting away with it. You idiot. *Smack*Hamel wrote:Who cares if Canada doesn't send them back? What reason other than throwing them in buttscrew prison would we have for wanting them? They won't return.

Yeah, we just let you send any suspects to Syria. Not one individual has been prosecuted for terrorist activities,
Which shall remain nameless.even though U.S. intelligence has identified at least 50 pro-terror outfits operating north of the border.
Policies that remain nameless.Continued its loose immigration policies.
Some MINOR civil cases in which rulings must be agreed upon by both sides and must abide by Canadian law.Is allowing Islamic courts in Ontario to decide on some civil cases involving Muslims.
Oh yeah, we've really seen what a big mistake that was...Refused to send troops to Iraq.
Because pot is evil and must be destroyed. Not like say, guns that are smuggled into Canada.Decriminalized marijuana, making it easier for smugglers to send pot into the U.S.A.
I must say, I've never heard of this. And supported a quasi-legalization of heroin in the city of Vancouver.
Its interesting that he failed to remember that Canada has SENT SEVERAL THOUSAND TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN.

So we boycott Canadian goods and services, thereby hurting legitimate, private Canadian businesses in order to get back at the government, and this makes sense...how?

I fail to see why i should boycott canada because a few idiots decided they didn't like the idea that they might actually have to *gasp* fight after joining the military. They volunteered for the military, they knew damned well they might be called in a situation that required fighting. You have to be an idiot to not expect to be called to fight when joining the military.
