According to this, Bin Laden's role in Al-Qaeda has been reduced to a figurehead. An Egyptian Ex-doctor is supposedly now heading the terrorist organization.

This is nothing surprising, really. Ayman al-Zawahiri has long been considered to be the real brains of al-Quada, planning and managing the organization's operations while OBL served as the group's political and spiritual leader, and of course, it's poster boy. Both men are largely irrelevant now, given AQ's transformation from a strongly hierarchial organization to a decentralized cellular one.

al-Zawahiri is also OBL's mentor and personal physician, and is believed to have been in part responsible for molding OBL's militant anti-Western views.

OBL is a figurehead rather than the brains behind Al-Quada. His job is to inspire people who is see Al-Quada as a defender of Islam against America.

I do believe you have a unique view on the middle eastern world through the eyes of a person of the Islamic faith, and I was curious, what impression do you get from others around you concerning OBL?

OBL is viewed by some people as a hero while others are neutral about him. The general consensus is America created Bin Laden and that Bin Laden is not responsible for september 11.

There is one conspiracy theory that Jews caused the september 11 attacks. According to the conspiracy theory no jews died in the septermber 11 so they must be responsible for it.

Even after the US released the video of Bin Laden admitting he caused the terrorist attacks many people refused to believe it. The video in their opinion was fabricated by the CIA.

Its unlikely he spent his whole 300 million on the orgainziantin, a big chunk is probuably invested tomake more money for them later, an endowment basically tp ensure that even if all external funding is cut off the core of the group will live on.

I think whats-his-face compared him to John Brown in his book, in that people see him as a unjust leader fighting for a just cause.

But really, I can't say this surprises me. If OBL were actually trying to accomplish anything, his subordinates would just kiss his ass at every opportunity, meaning they couldn't actually get anything done. One needs subordinants willing to question the leader in order to effectively accomplish something, particularly something so difficult as effective terrorism.
