SDnet able to email AOL addresses again
In case anyone gives a shit, I've started getting my topic reply notifications at my AOL address again. So I guess AOL figured out Mike isn't a spammer. Yay.

I don't care. I hate AOL (they still block mail from people running servers at home with a different from address, right?).

It's not some thing any one person did.Frank Hipper wrote:I'd like to know who it was that reported SDN mail as spam.
AOL has a shitty spam filter and it tends to catch any instituational mailing and automatically dump it in a spam folder. The board's notification Emails are among those so labeled. The contents of said spam folder, unless the user goes in and corrects the mistake, wind up being sent to AOL as spammers. Enough of these wound up going through and we got nailed.
Trolls have nothing to do with it, just the usual AOL shit.

I just got a bounce message from someone trying to watch this thread on AOL. If we were cleared, it must have only lasted five minutes.
For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.
But now, you shall witnesss ... its dismemberment!

That was probably me. I was testing to see if thing would come through. I'll disable the notify fucntion so it won't keep repeating with follow up posts.AdmiralKanos wrote:I just got a bounce message from someone trying to watch this thread on AOL. As of this morning I found a message from bbs@stardestroyer.net pertaining to an update on this thread. So, that likely means that my earlier notification was blocked and then when Mike posted to comment about it the message telling me that came through.
Although, looking at the time of his post and the time of my notification there's almost an hour's lag time in there, but IIRC the thread watching notices tend to move slower than the PM notices. At least in my experience.
Also, these AOL Dweebs appear to like MetrionCascade better than they like me.
Anyway, I still would suggest that all members who are using AOL add bbs@stardestroyer.net to their address book just to be on the safe side.

Probably.Andrew J. wrote:This whole "castrate Straha" thing has gotten way out of hand.
But remember Straha does have the title 'lord of spam" (unless it has changed rescently), and its a fairly large number of people who casually do it(Or some Mod going around editing the polls).
Plus if managment (aka Mike Wong) thinks it isnt acceptable, then it will stop in short order.
But till then, what you are proposing is known as "arm chair modding". Take it up privately with one of the Mods/admin if you have an issue with it.

Actually, that was just spamming. I don't really think it's too bad, but saying so sure addded 1 to my post count!ggs wrote:Andrew J. wrote:But till then, what you are proposing is known as "arm chair modding". Take it up privately with one of the Mods/admin if you have an issue with it.

Don't hate; appreciate!
RIP Eddie.

After getting that one message about this thread I didn't get any more so I assumed that was a fluke.
Therefore I changed my email address to my work email and then had my work email forwarded to my original email address.![Neutral :|](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)
It works fine and comes through quickly with the bbs@stardestroyer.net address displayed. (
AOL Non-Spam Blocker) So until we know for sure its fixed I'm leaving it this way so I at least get the messages somewhere.

Yep, the whole SMTP thing is fun, isn't it? *feels smarter now, even though he doesn't really understand that whole thing either, but paid enough attention to bring it up*Tsyroc wrote:After getting that one message about this thread I didn't get any more so I assumed that was a fluke.
