btw, a gramatical nitpick but one that has been bothering me. Marcao, the word meaning "to end" is spelled "cease," not "seize." "Seize" means to grab... or to convulse. Several of the Krynor ships have "convulsed to be," and it is a bit jarring to read. Just so you know...

Genetic Engineering works, though having the species on hand simplifies things, in my estimation. Also adds a bit of spice to things, as you can deal with possible idealogical conflicts between an oceangoing species and a dry land species

on a side note have you studied marine siences because you obviously know what you are talking about.

Not particularly, no. Know a bit of evolutionary science, I suppose, but aside from some trips to New England and my 5th grade section on whales, haven't really focused so much on marine biology.

Alyrium, we are currently ignoring Laz's latest post in the STGOD. He left, he shouldn't really be adding anything more to it now that Marcao is in command.

I'd just like to say that, faced with unbeatable odds and thrown into the position pretty much on the fly, Marcao is doing more with the Krynor in a day and a half than Lazerus did in a month.

You know, I'm begining to think that if we gave the entire STGOD to Marcao it would turn out twice as interesting.

Hmm....an extended solo....now that could be interesting. I don't think I've seen the like from him before.

I tell you though, he has practically written full-fledged books. Not that I've read them yet, but I hear stories.

Though, there is an evolutionary path for them.

You have a warm blooded mudskipper-like creature. First moving on to land to escape from the VERY nasty predators in the water. They essentially would have become a tidal creature. Living in the Shallow water and mud flats.

Thbey would have been eating small fish and things, while tracking overland long distances on mud flats. Those things get pretty damn large on a planet like his.

Being able to see a long distance would help with that, hence the bipedalness.

Though, I am just speculating. Problem is, we have no examples of this here on earth to go from.

Well, evolutionarily speaking, there's little reason to become humanoids unless you need to fill the niche humans fill. It's called covergant evolution, and you can see it when you compare dolphins and sharks. They are very different, biologically speaking, but they share the same type of shape and structure, and roughly the same ecological niche.

So, while a race of advanced telekinetic squids (just tossing out a Space Empires 4 example) which have managed to create a civilization without filling the humanoid niche is entirely plausible (once you accept telekinesis, that is), a race of aquatic humanoids is much more difficult to swallow, unless you allow for divine intervention. Humanoids on the surface that are perhaps more fish or frog-like (heck, maybe even dinosaur type)? Hey, that's all up to chance, really. The point is though, you tend to either be evolved to the ocean or to land, the ability to be both, well, it's not something that's not likely to be selected for in nature. When you find a niche, you tend to stay there. That's how speciation happens, after all.

I'd say give them a common ancestry, and perhaps allow breeding once genetic engineering advances far enough, and after that, go nuts

Ya know its funny I did not intend to spark such a huge debate by creating these creaturs. They were first and formost an artistic indever then my anal retentive side took over and tryed to make it work. Yet it is quite curious how this is all so hotly debated while we have an entire empire that uses magic.

No, I'm not. I'm saying that this is science fiction, and aquatic humanoids are hardly unprecedented in that genre.

Oh, don't misunderstand, I'm not saying you should conform to what I say or else. Far from it. I've just been having fun thinking about the concept for a bit is all.

It just sparked an interesting discussion is all. I'm just presenting my thoughts on the matter. If you look at my OOB, you'll note I have beings that evolved on a Gas Giant as a part of my power. Now that is most certainly alien, and well outside of the normal classification methods we use today.

As for the Gungans, no, I did not intend to compare them to your race, but rather as a foil to use against Rogue 9's introduction of a point irrelevant to what I was talking about in the first place
