Chamber of the Council
Eketrina Cluster
Hudson System, Ouster Occupation Zone, Edge of Known Space

The vast, beautiful gallery that was the Chamber of the Council. One of it's walls was an ephemeral-seeming crystalline sheet, overlooking the vast chaos of lights, industry, and swarming life that was the Eketrina Cluster. The Circle of the Council was bereft of one of it's members- The seat where Artus su Achtzehn had situated himself at a thousand Council meetings before was empty. The Speaker's skinsuit was a somber black, the usually gaudy rank-slashes along her flanks replaced with slim bars of color- Artus had been a close friend and sometimes intimate.

Before the Council, her body cradled in a life-support chair, was the shattered form of Elanie su Madrighala, Blackeyes Assassin and, at one time, the knife planned for Karsus' breast. Her face was covered by the healing medium, hidden by bandaged and packets of genemodded healing viruses. One eye stared from behind the mess of medical equipment, the only sign that a living being was somewhere in the cluster of cybernetics intently repairing the twisted body.

The voice that emerged from mess would have torn the heart of those who had known her before the disaster on Earth- every word was a symphony of pain. Over an hour, syllable by syllable, she told the story of what had happened. The bombardment, the reports of a robotic army gone mad- the chaos that had exploded as the orbiting warships had targetted bunker after bunker, prompting the Hajr's delegates to attempt an escape- the explosion that had hurled their vessel to the ground, where it's crew and most of the delegates were consumed by burning fuel.

The Speaker silenced her with a hand motion.
"Go, then, Boundwoman Elanie su Madrighala, Bound Blackeyes to the Hajr. Seek rest, pray for recovery, and know that the fire of your life may yet burn brightly."

As her vessel was removed by a group of medtechs, the Council began to speak. Courses of action would be examined. Was it appropriate for the Hajr to assist in the search for vengeance? Was the attack on Earth of consequence to the Hajr? What to do with the Krynor Empire?

In time, the deliberation ceased. The Speaker was ready.

<< Let it be known- those who rained fire on Mother Terra will pay for their crimes. To facilitate the bringing of justice to these criminals against life, the 2cnd Cruiser Swarm, headed by Subadmiral Atja su Miitgar, Hero of the Battle of Camaro, will be dispatched to search for the enemy. We will bring vengance on those who so brutally assaulted the Monacorans. >>

"We'll run the evacuation. We've got the Massive Fleet of Camaro Transports coming in. We'll bring them back to Farpoint first, we'll probably evacuate everything there, and then we'll take them to the Sparta Planets. We've got somewhat of a goldmine there, and we're going to use it to repair this wonderful planet..."

Re: Vengeance

I am sorry to be transmitting this myself, but the Combine leaders are not currently in a position to be communicating. What I have to say is simple: The Combine has been hired to spearhead the search for the Overseer and we are currently engaged in massive operations towards that end. Should anyone wish to help find and fully bring to justice those responsible for this atrocity, contact us directly. We will coordinate the search between the different nations, and having a centralized intelligence center will benefit everyone.

The emperor tried to console the prince.

Earth
Caribbean Sea
Dominican Republic

The sudden influx of activity had caught the Veithan delegation by surprise, one moment they had been walking down a beautiful covered walk way on their way back to the delegation when they were approached by a quartet of Monacoran personnel and dragged off away from the grand ball. Their questions were met with polite answers, although the chaos in the sky above had been difficult to miss. Monacoran defenses were tested to the breaking point as planetary shields dueled with torrents of energy. Her eyes widened instantly aware that someone or something was attacking the cradle of humanity, the place that had always been considered an unbreakable fortress.

The delegation had not been aware of their final destination, the shuttle which carried them moved quickly and effortlessly over the air and then over a sea. The Veithan naval vessels that had escorted them as well as the diplomatic vessel had known that attempting to fight the juggernaut that assault Earth would be suicide. Only a single heavy destroyer had remained behind, deploying a myriad of sensor drones in order to record the carnage and analyze the data as it occurred. The shuttle which carried them finally came to a stop, landing in an airfield secreted in a valley between mountains. Magdalena was aware that it was an island, and the temperature suggested that it lay near the planet’s equator. She had no time to consider her location, as Monacoran troops were insistent that she and her two escorts move quickly.

The Monacoran position was impressive and the bunker that laid buried deep within the earth was mighty in its own right. The engineering capabilities of the Monacorans had never been in doubt, but she could not help but feel as she watched the massive doors that led into the complex shut behind them, that this place would be their tomb. The Veithan delegation was quietly led to a well furnished room where their needs were taken care of. Food and drink were brought, and as the tension of the Monacoran soldiers eased they became more talkative about the situation. The fact that Earth was under attack was not in doubt, but Magdalena quickly ascertained that it was not by any force her people had encountered. The room possessed a wide range of information gathering equipment, but nothing was working as it should. Eventually, she found the Monacoran emergency communication network. It was still managing to broadcast information, and what the Veithan delegation saw they did not like.

Minutes seemed like hours as time passed, the assault continuing unabated. It was exactly one hour and forty five minutes when all hell broke loose. It had been the activation of the bunker’s shields that had led their enemies to them. The Monacoran intentions had been in the right place, but the enemy forces understood that something worth shielding was worth protecting. It took over fifteen minutes of concentrated fire, for the shields of the bunker to finally collapse. Magdalena had expected them to last only five. Without the shields to protect the bunker, it had only earth and its reinforced structure to protect them. It was not enough.

Monacoran guards burst into the room, quickly leading the Veithan delegation down a series of stairs as they sought to move deeper within the complex. There was another way out, a submarine that was connected to the bunker. If they managed to reach the lowest level they could escape into the depths of the sea and wait out the storm. Explosions rocked the complex, the entire structure seeming to shudder and bend beneath the fury of its enemies. They had made it eight floors lower than their original level before the bunker’s outer perimeter failed. With that task accomplished, all that remained between the genocidal force above and the bunker inhabitants were the lattice work of floors which made up the bunker itself.

They had made it ten floors down before the world exploded, the stairwell collapsing in various places as Monacoran troops and anything else in the way were brushed aside. Anything in the top eight floors were vaporized, those in the middle floors fared little better, but the Veithan delegation and their escorts were low enough not to have the luxury of dying quickly. Monacoran troops screamed as walls collapsed while others seemed to implode showering everything around them with jagged pieces of shrapnel. Magdalena screamed, feeling something wet hit her as she fell.

When her eyes opened, the lights in the floor were all dim and her entire body hurt. She used her mind to dull the pain, erecting mental defenses that acted like analgesic blocks between her brain and angry nerves. It was only after she had managed to deal with her own pain that she concentrated outwards, her mind seeking her escorts. She found Maisha, but she could not feel the presence of Alarik. Her mental query to Maisha met with silence for a moment, before the mind opened up and Magdalena gasped softly. Sorrow washed over Maisha’s mind in waves, at the loss of her husband. Even now, her arms were clutching the cold form; Alarik’s body had been nearly split in half. He had died instantly. Magdalena reached out gently with her mind, trying to bring comfort to Maisha but it was too little avail. Maisha and Alarik had not only been married, but their minds had been bonded. In essence, irregardless of separation one would always feel the mental presence of the other. It was a common arrangement in Veithan marriages, and the residual shock of having her husband’s mind ripped from her own, had traumatized Maisha to a great extent.

Magdalena tried to stand, managing to do so for a fraction of a second before she heard two “snapping” sounds and fell once more. She grimaced, as waves of pain assaulted her mental defenses, her left hand reaching down past her waist and touched her exposed legs. She could feel the bone protruding from her left leg, her palm and fingers coated in her blood. Ah, that explained a lot. Her head turned, by now her eyes had adjusted to the darkened conditions about her and she could see the bodies of her Monacoran guards. Two of them seemed to be sleeping, if one did not notice the gaping wounds in their chests and arms. The other two laid in grotesque parodies of motion, body parts arrayed in a fashion that made her stomach twist. Her nostrils flared, the smell of death which surrounded her only now truly realized. She was bleeding, that explained the dampness underneath her but was it all her blood or was it monacoran blood as well? Did it matter?

The bunker shook once more, and her eyes closed. So, their enemy wanted to make sure that the deed was done. The explosions only intensified as time passed, each second the bunker shaking more violently the sounds louder and louder. Maisha finally snapped and began to laugh loudly, her arms still clutching the body of her husband. Magdalena tried to reach her, but her mental touch had been immediately reproached. Maisha was gone, her sorrow rising to such heights as to consume her rational mind. It was when the shaking had reached its peak that Magdalena understood she would die. She had no regrets, her final thoughts breathed to her husband in the hopes that they would reach him before the end came.

The eyes of Ahra Hyrt snapped open before he forced himself out of bed and walked to the bathroom. The lights were turned on, his eyes watching his own reflection on the mirror. Moments before, he had felt a sensation unlike any he had ever encountered. He had heard Magdalena, felt her struggling with something. He had felt her mind…cease? His eyes widened a moment later as his wife’s last thoughts drifted over his mind like a butterfly carried by the wind.

<<I am sorry m`love.>>

Ahra’s mind exploded with confusion, his fingers grabbing the edges of the counter as his heart tried to deny what his mind already knew. She was gone. Tears flowed from his eyes, as he walked out of the bathroom and towards the children’s bedroom.

"I must return to Carulan to help coordinate our next move. We will find this new enemy and wipe them from existance."

The emperor started to walk twards the shuttle pad, awaiting a shuttle to bring him to admiral Nakema's command ship.

He turned.

"Oh, and one last thing I plan on holding a memorial service on Carulan for everyone who died here today. Since holding it on earth really isn't an option, I'd like you all to attend.

Faran Tor waited outside the medical office, staring at the wall and trying to forget. A clicking sound made him turn, and he saw Adar Krell walk out of the medical center, a bandage wrapped around his head.

"Are you alright, Adar?"

"I'll be fine. Just a scratch, you know. Didn't even need stitches."

"That's good to hear. What about the others?"

"Trilla's going to be alright. She won't be able to walk for maybe a year, but they got her leg back on. They're calling you a hero in there, son. Your tourniquet saved her life."

Faran allowed himself a small smile. "And Emir?"

Adar just shook his head. Faran nodded. They stood there in the hall, neither looking at each other, neither saying a word. They didn't move for a long time.

Chamber of the Council
Eketrina Cluster
Hudson System, Ouster Occupation Zone, Edge of Known Space

The Speaker was about to retire to her chambers when Bondman Daryn su Candaris, head of the section of the Hajr devoted to running the admittedly small intelligence operations on Temesvar and across the realm of the Blood Lords, burst into the Chamber.

"Speaker! You must see the latest reports from Temesvar! They hold in them a great deal that is worrisome- and a deal of.... oportunity."

The Military Prince thought for a minute, and then shook his head.

"No, don't hold a memorial yet. Now is not the time for mourning, we will mourn later. Now is the time for saving Earth, and then War. If you could I would like to meet as many commanders from your Military in twelve hours. Andorra is relatively untouched, and the Palace should be safe. We will meet there, and discuss plans for the future."

Temesvar
The Court of the Vampire King

The sun rose over the palace for the first time in centuries. As the vampires in the capital city shut themselves away in their sleeping chambers, they took note. Ysevelod had been ... consumed by Casimir. The palace itself was severely damaged by the epic battle, and would have to be repaired. But there was time enough for it. First, Casimir had to restore order, which might take weeks.

In the absence of Ysevelod's strong authority, other vampires would be using the opportunity to advance themselves by absorbing their superiors.

Mars Refugee Center
Sol System

Those few private citizens with the means to exit the Earth independently after it's razing had been instructed to gather on Mars. There, Grand Prince Basil the Charmer, now second-in-line for the succession of the Blood Kingdom, attempted to converse with the authorities. He was inquiring after the fates of the other major diplomats and representatives who had stayed at the ball too long.

Elanie su Madrighala was one of those whose fate they could confirm. The Ouster party had been decimated, but the woman had survived. Severely injured, apparently. That was something he would have to take a look at.

Earth, Sol System
Super-Dreadnought Antaeus

Radim’s teeth were clenched inside his command pod deep within the bowels of the flagship of the Ravenlock Consortium. Earth…cradle of humanity…the safest spot in known space, was a smoldering wreck of a planet. Rage boiled within him, memories of the Dra’kol annihilating colonies in the war. Last time, he was unable to stop it because they needed to protect the home systems. He had to retreat. This time, he was too far out to stop it, and now, people were dead. He didn’t have the numbers, but just looking at the planet through the Super-Dreadnought’s sensors was enough.

As they were inbound, they blasted their intentions as loud as can be, and cooperated with what was left of Monacoran System Traffic Control when they arrived, too late to do anything except watch over everyone as they cleaned up. The two troop transports in the fleet asked for permission to send down Groundform to assist in rescue efforts.

“Admiral, no word yet on our boys planetside,” Captain Harris’ synthesized voice whispered into Radim’s earpiece.

“Shit…I hate this waiting Harris. We busted our asses getting here, and now, nothing. Not a god damned thing!”

“I know,” a pause. “Radim, they, the Monacorans. They want to know if they can count on us to help them out.”

“Wipe the fuckers from the void. What we shoulda done to the Dra’kol. We don’t stop this time, Harris. We don’t fucking stop.”

“I’ll pass it along,” another pause. “A.J., we will find the…things that did this.”

Radim had tuned out Harris by now, returning his attention to the planet below. This was far from over.

Earth, Sol System
Undisclosed Location, hours earlier

The Monacorans, realizing that the base was not going to withstand the amount of fire that it was receiving, decided to try and evacuate their charges. The Ravenlock they had been protecting grudgingly went along, but it was too late. The base was beginning to fall apart. Jon, Thomas, and the two aides, were separated from their Monacoran bodyguards as the base began to break apart and corridors were sealed off. One of the guards was knocked unconscious mere meters from their escape craft. The aides, under Jon’s direction dragged him into the pod.

That was when the ceiling collapsed on top of Jon, partially burying him. Thomas ran to him, to try and dig him out, to drag him into the pod.

“Damn it Thomas, that was not a request! Get them out of here!”

“But si-”

No buts! Go!” Jon screamed as he pushed the stubborn diplomat away, towards the escape pod.

Thomas said nothing, he just looked down at Jon for a moment, as if lost.

“I’ll expect a full report when you get back.”

Thomas nodded, as if in a daze, and went back to the escape pod without another word. The launch sequence began, and in moments, the bunker was gone from sight.

“Sorry Ajay…someone beat you to the punch,” Jon croaked out before the rest of the tunnel collapsed around him.

Earth, Sol System
Escape Pod 0031k-AZ, Now

“This…is it, isn’t it? This is all there is…” Thomas could not feel anything below his waist, and he wished the same held for every other part of his body as well. He couldn’t move, pinned down by the wreckage of the pod. The attackers, whoever they were, they were sharp. They caught the pod shortly after it had launched. It hadn’t taken much, Thomas didn’t know what hit the pod, but it was enough to knock it out of the sky. He supposed that the attackers didn’t think there would be any survivors anyway. They were probably right. He couldn’t hear the others, and he was afraid to call out. He knew there should have been some comfort here, but he couldn’t see it. That was when the voice in his head began.

~Thomas, this is Tha’moth, Jon’s aide. Don’t speak, I will talk to you here. Don’t concentrate, just relax. I will help to calm you. Help is coming.~

~Who? How? Dead?~

~Monacorans. They finally heard our distress beacon. Ata’hem, two of our guards. Ata’hem tried to protect them. Ata’hem failed. I tried to protect you. I am not sure if I fail or accomplish.~

~Doesn’t matter. Thank you. Deeply.~

~Does matter. I help you live. My duty, now Jon is…~

~I know.~

~Live…~

The Monacorans arrived at the site and did what they could, Tha’moth and Thomas were moved to intensive care, but their respective conditions did not look good. Thomas was seriously injured, several limbs had been mangled beyond recognition, and the Monacoran doctors did not even know where to begin on the Dra’kol aide, Tha’moth, afraid to operate from ignorance, they merely kept her under strict observation until they could get advice from above on the matter.

Fleet Admiral Radim requested permission from the Monacoran government to aid in the search for survivors in the ruins of the bunker where Jon Cameron was last seen alive.

Veithan Empire Space

The fifth fleet was gathered, one hundred and twenty ships preparing to launch themselves into hyperspace. Their orders were simple, to travel to the Sol System in order to show solidarity with the forces of Monacora. The fifth fleet was unattached, and had no patrol duties. It was the primary instrument of war for the Veithan Empire, and now it prepared to work with other nations to hunt down and find the perpetrators of the attack upon Earth. The death of Magdalena Hyrt was public knowledge, and the nation as a whole grieved. Magdalena had been well liked by the people. She would be missed.

The fleet aligned itself into formation, super capital ships led by the VNS Blood and Fire, the four kilometer flagship of the fifth fleet. Moments later the entire fleet submerged into hyperspace, their course set for Earth.

Sol System

The massive Fleet Tender Glorious Return dropped from Kincaid distortion high over Earth, half of the 3rd War Cluster dropping in around her. She was a 15-kilometer behemoth- and her troop carrying bays were empty. She had supplies to feed and support millions of soldiers- and now, those supplies were useless as the Tender's troop complement fed itself from the shattered remnants of the Krynor Empire on far-off Sparta.

<< This is the Warship of the Hajr Glorious Return. This wasn't quite how we were intending on ending up over Earth, but we come prepared to offer succor to, perhaps, three or four million. >>

The fleet moved slowly in. It was massive, more massive then before. Slowly it descended to Earth. The transports that had performed so effectively as a ploy in Camaro were going to start shipping the injured, hurt, sick, and visitors off planet. Then in the second wave they would bring those from ravaged areas to Far Point, Sparta, or less Damaged areas of Earth. The first shipmennt of emergency weather control was arriving from Far Point, and at the same time a call from the remaining Earth born governments arrived in Andorra. In the next few hours damage control began, and Earth was once again united under Monacoran rule.

Orochi city, planet Kurushio, Imperial Palace:

I really must have that secretary replaced Emperor Taro thought as he heard the sounds of arguing from the outer reception area. On the plus side, he recognised the voice that was insulting his secretary. "Gentlemen, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to handle this matter another time" he said, gesturing to the rear exit of the room. The cabinet, that had moments before been looking curiously at the door, rose as one and filed out, followed momentarily by the Emperor's guards as he waved for them to follow.

The sound of a resounding bitch-slap came through the door quite clearly, a second before it opened, allowing what to all appearances was an eighteen year old red-haired girl to storm in, with a mass of charred metal over her shoulder. She immediately tried to launch into a tirade, "You are going to have to fire-"

"That bitch, yes, I know Genko. Why the rush, and why did you let yourself be seen?"

"This," She slammed the mass of charred and melted metal on the conference table, "And a dozen more like it were killing miners on one of the outer moons. They seemed to be working to replicate themselves, and were trying to take over our people with some form of techno-organic implants."

"And?"

"And I am taking the flagship and going to attempt to make contact with anyone that will listen. This has the potential to grow into something far greater than we can possibly handle. I need you to make the appropriate calls, because we both know how well your officers tend to take the news that I'm in charge when I break it to them myself."

"Understood. Do try not to start any wars right now, Imperial Auditor Genko."

At that, the redhead turned and left the room. As the door closed, the sound of another bitch-slap echoed momentarily.
______

Within the day, the flagship of the fleet, Love and Peace departed for Earth. It would not arrive in less than three weeks.

Sweish Mountains

Dressed in U.P armor with it's full NBC gear, the Lord Protector gazed out on a ravaged and burning Earth. He had been luckier than he had had a right to. His party had only lost 4 people. Earth on the other hand... There were no words for this horror. He was left asking why? What had Earth done to deserve this?

In the constant rounds of cival war and rebellion that had determined the history of the United Protectrates for over 500 years until Final Union, there had been planetery bombardments. It was one of the reason that most citizens chose to live underground. But this... This was insanity.

He hear a crackle of static over his radio. Seems that the fleet was here.

"This is Fleet Admiral Anderson, to any surviving U.P forces, is anyone alive down there? Sir Brain? Sir Ashton? My Lord Protector? Anyone please respone!!!" He could hear his uncle panic laiden voice. He sighed, fighting down fresh tears... Sir Ashton would never answer anyone again.

"Fleet Admiral, this is Frost Wolf actual. Still breathing uncle." He answered.

"Thank God! Orders?" Cheering could be heard in the background. Wait a little bit, let them see what had happened to Mother Terra...

"Contact our host, send down medical teams. Full relief. What are you packing?"

"1st and 2nd. 3rd just jumped back to U.P space." Anderson answered.

"Have 2nd off load it's truma teams and med supplies and jump back to U.P space. 1st fleet is now Frost Wolf Orbital." The Lord Protector ordered. He didn't know what was going to happen next but he wanted in on it. Yes indeed he wanted in.
