Officials at the Defense Department are also said to be "livid," and well aware of the damage that has been done by the incident, according to NBC News' Pentagon reporter Jim Miklaszewski. Speaking on the Imus in the Morning radio/MSNBC program Tuesday , Mr. Miklaszewski said he asked a Pentagon contact about the soldiers alleged to be involved, to which the Pentagon official replied, "You mean the six morons who lost the war?"

As if it was just six morons. As more information comes to light, it becomes apparent that these are just the six sacrificial lambs, and that the abuse (and condonement thereof) was far more widespread.

But why should anyone be surprised? When you keep spreading propaganda about how the "arab world" are a bunch of insane lunatics who "hate freedom" and were collectively responsible for 9/11, some people are going to react that way.

Demonize the Arabs

Post by Aaron »

Part of the problem is that the US leadership has systematically demonized the Arab world over 9/11. It's common practice in the military to make the "enemy" out to be less than human so you can justify your actions against them. I witnessed similar behavior when I was in the Canadian Army, after we were comitted to Afghanistan suddenly everyone there was a "raghead" or "camel-humper", "sand-nigger" etc.

Although we never abused any of our prisoners, perhaps because the Somali incident was still fresh in our minds.

The '6' ... ? Surely there was a lot more people involved in tangeling up the US in a foreign policy disaster that is Iraq ... oh wait a minute, we're looking for scapegoats, silly me.

I don't think the administration has demonized the Arab world as a whole, if anything they've tried to put forth the case that moderate Arab Muslims are not the enemy, what with all the "religion of peace" crap.

There's also the fact that the current administration refuses to say anything bad about Saudi Arabia, ever. And that's a pretty important part of the Muslim world.

There probably are more involved. However, every soldier receives basic training on the laws of warfare, and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that stacking naked detainess to make a cool-looking pyramid is wrong. Moreover, they were stupid enough to photograph themselves next to the scenes. In the event the soldiers try to say they were told to do those acts, any US soldier is obligated to refuse an unlawful order and report he or she who told them to do it.

In the end, three sets of people should be punished:
  • 1. Those who did the acts
    2. Those of superior rank who ordered or suggested the acts
    3. Those who knew about the acts but chose inaction

Which no one takes seriously; everyone knows it's just window-dressing on the war between America and Islam. Moreover, even if one did take it seriously, it would not apply to any Iraqi prisoner of war, who was a combatant and is obviously not going to be considered part of the "religion of peace".
There's also the fact that the current administration refuses to say anything bad about Saudi Arabia, ever. And that's a pretty important part of the Muslim world.
We all know why that's the case, and it's not respect for Muslims.

Funny, I was under the impression that "the six morons who lost the war" had names like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Rice, Bremer, and Bush.

Let them be tried by the UN under Geneva Convention. The whole lot, the six in question, their immediate superiors, and the commanding general (who was removed from her post already over this). I mean, we'd have demanded the same if those were US troops being treated as such by another army.

Well, they did (matter of opinion, I realize), but no one in the Department of Defense was going to come out and say it, now were they?

What? Quote Rush. I want to read this sopping garbage.

And maybe Limbaugh got hazed by being forced to pose for pictures pretending to suck another guy's dick, being sodomized by chemical lights and broom handles, being beaten, etc., but I've never heard of hazing like that before. And if it is there, one more reason we don't need money and manpower in Iraq.

stupid rightwing old fucker aka Cal Thomas wrote:Second, Iraqis and insurgents from other countries have made sport of knocking off American and British troops by sniper fire and exploding devices.
How this justifies torture of prisoners, I hve no idea. That's right, bombs and sniper fire are only immoral when the other guy does it.
Newspapers recently carried the story of a young boy who shot and killed an American soldier.
That's terrible. Still waiting for how it justifies jack shit.
Third, where was the world's outrage when mass graves, rape and torture rooms and other evidence of Saddam Hussein's genocide and other inhumanities were revealed?
Don't change the subject, asshole. Furthermore, Saddam Hussien was long held as a monster and forgive the world for holding the US to a higher standard (which the US helped along with it's sanctimonious rhetoric).
Some Arab commentators are repeating the myth that the West has, once again, humiliated Muslims. If there has been humiliation, it isn't the fault of the West. It is Muslims' fault.
This should be good
They took trillions of dollars in oil money, and instead of building a culture dedicated to elevating their people, including women, they have squandered it on agendas and adventures that had the opposite result. Like communism, which blamed the West for its failure to produce a better life for people forced to live under that system, Arab dictatorships must have an external enemy to keep people from blaming their leaders for the misery they have created.
WTF does this have to do with US torture of Iraqi prisoners, you moron?
Before universal condemnation of British and American forces goes any further, consider the comments of columnist Barbara Amiel in the May 3 Daily Telegraph of London: "The first casualty of war, it is claimed, is truth. I'd say the first casualty is context. Demanding that troops, who are subject on a daily basis to roadside bombs, suicide attacks, ambushes and rocket-propelled grenades, should respond without any cruel or unprofessional incidents would be a demand for sainthood. These troops face resentment and hatred from some of the very people they came to liberate and did liberate. Most coalition troops feel, mistakenly or not, that they are doing a favour to people with a personal animosity and primitive methods not usually found in Western warfare."

That's the best way to look at these pictures.
I just love this: "a personal animosity and primitive methods not usually found in Western warfare"- if only the poorly equipped and trained insurgents/guerillas fought catering to their enemies strengths, allowing them all to be massacred in two seconds flat by superior firepower, US troops wouldn't have to stoop to torture. Are you convinced?

here
CALLER: It was like a college fraternity prank that stacked up naked men --

LIMBAUGH: Exactly. Exactly my point! This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation and we're going to ruin people's lives over it and we're going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time. You know, these people are being fired at every day. I'm talking about people having a good time, these people, you ever heard of emotional release? You of heard of need to blow some steam off?
and here's the fuckwits latest words:
LIMBAUGH: All right, so we're at war with these people. And they're in a prison where they're being softened up for interrogation. And we hear that the most humiliating thing you can do is make one Arab male disrobe in front of another. Sounds to me like it's pretty thoughtful. Sounds to me in the context of war this is pretty good intimidation -- and especially if you put a woman in front of them and then spread those pictures around the Arab world. And we're sitting here, "Oh my God, they're gonna hate us! Oh no! What are they gonna think of us?" I think maybe the other perspective needs to be at least considered. Maybe they're gonna think we are serious. Maybe they're gonna think we mean it this time. Maybe they're gonna think we're not gonna kowtow to them. Maybe the people who ordered this are pretty smart. Maybe the people who executed this pulled off a brilliant maneuver. Nobody got hurt. Nobody got physically injured. But boy there was a lot of humiliation of people who are trying to kill us -- in ways they hold dear. Sounds pretty effective to me if you look at us in the right context.

Still, Limbaugh says it's no different from a pop concert or homoerotic pornography:

LIMBAUGH: The thing though that continually amazes -- here we have these pictures of homoeroticism that look like standard good old American pornography, the Britney Spears or Madonna concerts or whatever, and yet the Libs upset about the mistreatment of these prisoners thought nothing of sitting back while mass graves were being filled with three to 500,000 Iraqis during the Saddam Hussein regime.

On his May 5 show, Limbaugh attributed the American public's outrage over the allegations to "feminization":

LIMBAUGH: I think a lot of the American culture is being feminized. I think the reaction to the stupid torture is an example of the feminization of this country.

Many Freepers took it to the next level. A shitload of them are saying that this was a setup orchestrated by leftists.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."
