Even if Rummy get fired, that still leaves the rest of the Bush administration. Hopefully, this debacle won't be forgotten come November.

Nothing so dramatic Nitram. The logic is, Bush needs to get re-elected, not Rumsfeld. So Bush is authorized to blame his cabinet for his own blunders to save his presidency.

I believe Bush is well meaning, but stupid. Unfortunately, several members of his cabinet (who happen to be smarter than Bush, and therefore greatly influence his decisions) are conniving, malicious neocons.

Considering that Rumsfeld once proposed using only 15,000 troops to conquer Iraq, I'd have to dispute the theory of his intelligence.

It's quite funny, I was channel surfing- both BBC and CNN were reporting the calls for Rumsfeld to resign. Then I turned it to Fox News to find Tony Snow (i.e. a Fox News anchor) talking to O'Reilly (another Fox News anchor) about how horrible it would be for Rumsfeld to resign (because "the Democrats" and "the terrorists" would take advantage and there would be a "power vaccuum" and you'd have to "rebuild the Pentagon").
