Hey did anyone notice the post on the game board a while back inviting all surviving dignitaries to a game on one of the atlantian ships?

And has anyone ever heard of greased watermelon? Because that is what the game would be based on and it would make my life easier if some folks allready knew what it was.

LOL! memories of summer camp, greased watermelon. The Ousters won't be attending- such Bound frivolarities are beneath us -snoot snoot.-

Oh, and Rogue, re-read the pirate-hiring post. They are merely using that asteroid for that one meeting, it's not their base or anything- that would be nonsensical.

Apologies, but I won't be joining you. My dignitaries are all dead or in critical condition at the moment. In fact, I should be wrapping up that thread, and a few others as well.

Why the livid fuck would they still be there? They were just paid to start raiding the CoG, they'd be off earning their keep. And why would you know about a pirate meeting in a remote, rarely-travelled location anyways?

Yes, and you've made direct reference already to one council member basically being a council member for life, serving hundreds of years in office. Term limits, anyone?
No term limits, if they get re-elected they get re-elected. He has been running UNOPPOSED because he does a good job at the local level. He hasnt been a member of the COuncil of Seven for that long necessarily
Yeah, so? You're chock full of Legendary and Epic level characters all throughout your empire, and you've got a large population. Are you saying there are no highly experienced peasants?
Just stating a fact, and I am not the one arguing the charisma bit, I let that slide and went with it. You are beating a dead horse

Still, there is no logical reason your "mechanical" tech level would suck so much, given that you clearly have the means to improve it, and quite quickly. It makes no sense whatsoever.
Because we choose not to. Why cyhange the entire ifastructure when you have one already?
But mass charm, prismatic sphere, et al are perfectly acceptable. You already summoned an Astral Deva, and referenced the Forgotten Realms Pantheon as having granted powers to your specfor. Pray, what are those analogs to?
You can increase a groups warm fuzzy feelings using chemicals... Prismatic sphere is within the tech level, and doesnt really help me for game purposes.

The Astral deva isnt used in combat, and really arent that strong

And the gods granted special abilities like bardic knowledge oooh scary.
Yes, yes, you stated the spells you can expect us to see, from mageblades, and a handful of other spells...however, you still reserve the right to pull something out as you need it. For example, I didn't see hold person on your list, yet you obviously have it. You also don't list metamagic feats, but yet you obviously have them.
But I will use a force declaration before I use any of them. And will make sure they are within the tech level and work for game balance.
Mind affecting spells are mind affecting spells.
And anyone else that uses teeps can do the same damn thing
Where did I claim you did those specific things? Oh, right, I didn't. Oh, but wait, you did auto-charm entire worlds. And you auto-held those Jaffa at the Alpha Prime conference.
Eldritch wall, in the OOB You stated I was claiming imunity to things that upsetted game balance...
Really? Let's talk numbers, shall we? How big is your army? How many of them use magic, all of them? What's the minimum casting requirement before you see active duty?
I never really quantified their level, I am treating spells like I would weapons with limited ammo.
Which just brings us back to the original point, your government is clearly not a democracy. In a democracy, anyone can apply for office, not just the elite of the elite spellcasters. In fact, the elite of the elite spellcasters are better off in industry, research, and education for the most part. What part of locking yourself in a library with a bunch of dusty tomes makes you a more qualified leader?
If they get re-elected they get re-elected. And they actually have other jobs. Depending on how many they represent. Artimus represents every psionicist on a world, he has to sift through many things. A mage who represents a district on union would not represent as many and COULD do research.

I dont fucking nitpic your government to death. And the magically enhanced lifespan of a congressman doesnt fucking matter for game purposes.

Nice job avoiding the simple fact that there's NO REASON FOR THEM TO STILL BE THERE.

... and besides, a couple of ships running quiet in the vast mess that's the wreckage of the Womb would have a very good chance of remaining undetected as long as they stayed stealthed and you didn't spend the time searching the remains- which I don't recall you posting doing.

It's still a political system based on the "strength" of individuals, rather than their administrative qualifications.
Just stating a fact, and I am not the one arguing the charisma bit, I let that slide and went with it. You are beating a dead horse
The way you stated it implied that you felt it was highly unlikely.

Because we choose not to. Why cyhange the entire ifastructure when you have one already?
The Amish choose not to change their mechanical tech level. It's stagnation, but hey, whatever...
You can increase a groups warm fuzzy feelings using chemicals...
Yes, but in order to do that, you have to administer those said chemicals in some way. You bypass that altogether by just saying that the people are under the effect of the chemicals because you say so. Plus, when the group wakes up and discovered they've been drugged, they're not going to be terribly happy.
Prismatic sphere is within the tech level, and doesnt really help me for game purposes.
Sure it does. Without highly skilled magicians, your society would begin to crumble, as you would lack the ability to build and maintain your higher magics.
The Astral deva isnt used in combat, and really arent that strong
Really? Third most powerful celestial. Let's look at the MM.
"Astral Devas are not afraid to enter melee combat. They take a fierce joy in bashing evil foes with their powerful +3 heavy maces of disruption."

CR 14, btw.
And the gods granted special abilities like bardic knowledge oooh scary.
and extreme luck, and apparently some form of uberteleport.
But I will use a force declaration before I use any of them. And will make sure they are within the tech level and work for game balance.
Where's the force declaration for your instantly chain-cast string of 4 hold person spells?
And anyone else that uses teeps can do the same damn thing
Not really. Teeps tend to be one on one...
Eldritch wall, in the OOB You stated I was claiming imunity to things that upsetted game balance...
That I did, in a different point that you are now getting confused. This point was about you automatically declaring success for spells that clearly do not give automatic success in their spell descriptions.
I never really quantified their level, I am treating spells like I would weapons with limited ammo.
I would suggest that, instead, you treat forged magical items as weapons, armor, ammo, etc. Otherwise, you are forcing your armies to become insanely high level in order to compete, which throws your first strike potential through the roof.
If they get re-elected they get re-elected. And they actually have other jobs. Depending on how many they represent. Artimus represents every psionicist on a world, he has to sift through many things. A mage who represents a district on union would not represent as many and COULD do research.
Part time politicians? That's another recipe for disaster, but hey...
I dont fucking nitpic your government to death. And the magically enhanced lifespan of a congressman doesnt fucking matter for game purposes.
This isn't a nitpick. A nitpick would be me finding some little detail and blowing it out of proportion, like the fact that you call your power the Arcane Empire, but yet the government type is not an Imperial one. What you have is not a democracy, it just doesn't fit the definition, but that is the government type you keep saying you have.

The government form of the United States is not a democracy, it doesn't fit the defintion, and furthermore it never has, yet we keep claiming that we're a democracy. This has no relevance.

I have no interest in viewing a flamewar, so let's just simplify the comments down to this:

Aly, you have your priorities flipped around. Right now you are seeing DND spells and asking yourself if they fit within the DS9 tech level. This is leading to problems, many of which Hotfoot is pointing out now. The correct way to go about this is to do things that work within the tech level and find a way to put that into magical terms.

In terms of government, these things arent such a big deal. The reason people are digging at details is because you keep insisting how great your government is. If you do that, you leave yourself wide open to people saying "no, its not." And they are mostly correct. I have studied my share of politics and economics, and there are some SERIOUS flaws. I don't pick at them unless you say "I am libertarian so everyone is happy." Then I feel obliged to point out why everyone would NOT be happy because of libertarianism. Just keep government (mostly) out of your justifications, and you will notice a lot of flaming disappear...

Gee, I guess there's no difference between calling a Representative Democracy a Democracy and calling a Technocracy a Democracy, is there?

Ayrium, I was just reading back as I was preparing the Ouster "occupation" of Krynor territory, and I just realized that you, in a single post, took your fleet out of Camaro orbit, demolished every single Krynori site (including those you didn't even know existed!), landed and "magically removed" every Goua'ould from it's host at all these sites, and then returned to Camaro to fight, all in under the time it took the Krynor to translate from Sparta to Krynor!

Bullshit. Such an operation would take weeks or even months. I request that you edit your post. I know it's far back, but gametime it's only been 2-3 days.

Wait a sec, I apologise for my last post. I read your post more carefullly, and it seems you mentioned that it would of course take a while to complete. I'll assume it's still going on right now, then, as only a day or two has passed.

Sparta was PWNED by a massive joint Krell/Ouster/Monacoran fleet at the beginnning of the Camaro battle.
