Since when does Bush have to do anything, as far as I can tell he’s spent most of his life not doing stuff he should and lots of stuff he shouldn’t and somehow ended up President. Then as president he’s spent half of his time on holiday and in photo opportunities the rest of it hiding behind various spokespeople and a worrying proportion of you dumb bastards still seem likely to vote him in again.

Why does he “HAVE” to go on Arab TV? Unless they too are susceptible to the mysterious “Bush charm” I can’t possibly see it doing any good. It’s not as if most Arabs who see the interview will believe a word he says anyway, they might as well not believe a word an articulate and informed lesser official says.

I don't see the logic, he gotta go even though he knows he and his top execs can't convince the majority of Arabs. If I were an Arab I want to see the President of the United States offer some explanation or condolences rather than some spokesperson, and that's the gist of it. It shows some weight, and I don't see what's so hard to understand this.

Yes, it can be, and it's not even surprising. If you've taken a look at what I've said in the other thread where the abuse issue is covered, you'll know that this is business as usual when it comes to punishing offenders in the US military.

The thing is, it is true what they say that most of the American soldiers are decent and it's a relatively few who are fucked up, but it's an institutional practice in the US military to refuse to punish soldiers who intentionally commit crimes. nevermind unintentionally cause accidents. We've seen how Knife, Emperor Ming, frigidmagi and others here who are or have been in the US armed forces have condemned this debacle in very strong terms, but that doesn't change the institutional practices at the Pentagon.

Why is it so goddamned hard to get little assholes like you to admit it when you fuck up? Is it pride? What gives you the right to have any pride?

All I have to say is that the soldier/CIA contractor who murdered the Prisoner and those soldiers and supervisors involved with the humiliation/torture of the Prisoners should be charged with War Crimes as outlined in FM 27-10 and DA Pam 27-1<-PDF format

Both of which are current Army documents covering the Rules of Land Warfare

These prisoners may not be Prisoners of War but they are considered Protected Persons under International Treaties concerning the Laws of War.

CIA guy should be/should have been charged with murder under the current occupying powers legal system.

BTW

Those officers/supervisors who might have knowingly ignored or tried to hush up these act could be/can be also charged with War Crimes under above Laws of War.

Darth Wong wrote:Their strident claims that they're going to come down hard on the offenders sound pretty hollow in light of the fact that they've been sitting on this information the whole time and tried to hush it up until the cover got blown wide open by the "liberal media" (actually, the media tried to help them cover it up but the shit was about to hit the Internet fan, so they decided to jump in first).
What's interesting for me is that I bet a few Washington hawks are right about now saying; 'Why didn't we move the prisoners to Guatanemo where the press can't get any access?'
