Can anyone make sense of what this is supposed to mean?

Post by Executor32 »

Okay, here's the setup. Being an atheist, but with some knowledge of Christianity's beliefs and practices, I can usually figure out what the taglines one of our churches puts out on its reader board are supposed to mean. However, this one has me stumped:

A short-cut is the longest distance between two points.

I can understand what the other side, which says "Need eternal fire insurance? Check out our low rates!" is supposed to mean, but this one makes no sense to me from either a logical or theological standpoint. Does anyone have any ideas?

Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow
was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now, the fool
seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

I understand it..

It is supposed to mean that in the long-run a short-cut in the means of Christianity is going to get you sent to hell (until Judgment Day, at which time you may get to heaven). Thus, you just prolong your getting to heaven.

to put it simply: the quick and easy route is the fastest way to damnation. (ie - taking steroids might make you strong real fast, but in the long run it'll do alot more damage to your body than good, etc.)

one of those metaphors they're so fond of using.

It basically means you'll get more out of things, and thus be overall "quicker", if you do things properly. Like, it may be quicker to stab a hole in a can of paint, to get the paint out, but it'll be messier and you'll eventually spend more time painting [cleaning the mess up.] Wow what a shitty example.

I don't think it means that you have to cheat, necessarily--I think it just means that going the easy route (ie: temptation) is oftentimes the least direct way to get to where you want to be (ie: in church, on God's good side, in heaven or whatnot).

Don't feel badly about not getting it, though--that's a pretty sucky church one-liner. :D
