I was going to say what was the security doing,then i read the part about renovation and three months ago,even then there should have been security around the stadium.

Keep in mind it's Grozny, not the most secure of places. Still, no excuse. These bombings on every WW2 anniversary are persistent and have happened before.

The acting president has already been picked out. As for the General, the Russian Army is excessively top heavy (to many high ranking officers) as it is, so there should be no trouble picking a replacement, if the wounds were that serious.

Indeed, at one point the Russian military had over a hundred generals in Chechnya or the surrounding military district, to command a force of only about 350,000 men at its peak.
